  1. What's up with Haley? I thought you had to be a 'Crafty' veteran in order to think you can get by on 88-mph fastballs. I thought he threw a little harder than that.
  2. I've heard that Polanco may have more range than Gordon, but the every other metric favors both Nick & Engelb over Jorge at SS. I haven't read anything anywhere to suggest that Polanco could force either of them over to 2B as regulars. My point is that both project as superior defenders to Polanco. Both should be playing SS. Not Benji Gonzales.
  3. Can anyone explain why the Twins are having Engelb & Nick rotate between 2B/SS at AA? At 22-23, Vielma already has a near full AA season under his belt where he hit better than expected (.271) anyway. Everyone knows that once Dozier moves on, that either Vielma, Gordon or perhaps Palacios will force Polanco to 2B. Why isn't Vielma taking the AAA starts instead of Benji Gonzales so that each can play everyday at SS? I'd much rather develop polished depth at SS than worry about a fallback or possible utility role for them at this point.
  4. I liked the line Roy Smalley used, that he credited to Gene Mauch about Reggie Jackson, "He's playing in smaller ballparks than everyone else."
  5. Let's focus on that. 14 years as a big league, all-star, heart of the order, multiple batting champ, go to guy, and this is his first walk-off homer? Over 6,000 AB's, in more than 1,600 games, and he's never cashed out before? That might in itself be symbolic of the guys true value to the team.
  6. Today's pinch-hitting result is just another example of why it is time to give Mauer his Unconditional Release. Tying run at 3rd with less than two out and he's looking for a walk in order to leave things up to a utility infielder with 2 big league AB's this season. I don't care if it was off the plate or not, it was a 70some mph curveball up, to a hitter who has made a living of waiting back on pitches before committing to the swing. He quite simply didn't have the stones to attempt to put it in play and tie the game. He is not the type of leader our young squad needs to forge ahead. Period. As has been posted, his salary is a sunk cost. No one, repeat no one is willing to take any off our hands. The only real solution to the Mauer Quagmire is Unconditional Release!
  7. I haven't made it to a CR Kernels game yet, nut have a friend who is a regular. He raves about Whitefield's potential. Says he's a tall and lean 20-year old with outstanding speed and plus power. Anyone have any info to share on him? I should have a first hand report in the next couple of weeks.
  8. It's beyond time to move on from Gibson. Last winter was the time to cut ties with him. He's now earning more than 5X what we had to pay him last year. What a waste of 7 years. The guy has no heart and no command.
  9. Looked to me like Rortvedt was looking at the ground and not the ball. Can't tell though.
  10. Not to complain about a 4-0 start, but Molitor's batting order has me perplexed. Clearly Buxton isn't up to batting 3rd at this pont, and he did nothing in the spring to make it appear that he was. Take the pressure off the kid and bat him 9th until he forces your hand. On top of that, how do you protect Sano in the line-up with Castro or Polanco? I don't give a sh*t what Grossman's OB% is, if he is the DH choice over Park & Vargas, he or Kepler have to hit behind Miguel before Sano grows impatient over getting nothing to hit and starts to wildly expand his strike zone again. My biggest hope is that Kennys or Byungho hit their way into the 5-hole from Rochester over the next few weeks, making Robbie into the reserve he is meant to be. It would also be nice to see Kepler earn the #3-hole and cast Mauer to the depths of the order that he deserves.
  11. I think the Twins can't ignore this kid's upside with this pick. I realize they have two additional 'high' picks in this draft, but I hope they don't attempt to save some of their pool money for those picks at the expense of picking Greene. I've only seen limited video of him, but I can't help but have visions of a young Doc Gooden with a TC on his cap.
  12. I can't help but think that even if Greene were to have a catastrophic arm injury, he could still have value as a potential position player/DH. It might be the smartest way to hedge our bets with the #1 overall selection.
  13. I would bet the house that a Mike Napoli signing is imminent. Falvey specifically spoke of wanting veteran for his cluhouse leadership, and Napoli is reportedly an outstanding teammate. Falvey and Levine are both quite familiar with him from their previous gigs. I suppose he could split 1B/DH duties with Mauer/Vargas/Grossman. I'm not endorsing the move, just predicting it. I think he has way to many non-productive AB's, but does have a ton of post-season experience from playing on winning teams.
  14. Been out of the loop for the past several days, so forgive me if I'm echoing other's expressed opinions. But I have zero problem with the Twins holding on to Dozier, rather than accepting an inferior return over fear of his value depreciating. While his economic value will indeed lessen with every game played, I fully expect his on-field production to enhance his worth to desperate, post-season seekers during the 2017 campaign.
  15. If the Twins could get Weaver + Perez or Kelly + Alcantara or Hudson, I think I'd jump all over it. If they could get all three pitchers, I'd jump all over that too.
  16. I disagree strongly with the ' very high probability' of regression on Dozier's part. Jeff Kent, Bret Boone and even Paul Molitor are just three examples of second basemen who went on to post markedly better numbers in their 30's than they had in their 20's. Brian took a huge step forward in 2016, but overall he has been on a steady uptick in his overall production throughout his career. I think the more 'probable' is that it will continue.
  17. I think Dodger fans are under valuing two years of Dozier. Sure his HR total is likely going to drop, but his overall production is very sustainable and could conceivably increase as it has over the past four years. His value for two years is extreme and with the highest payroll in the game, I don't think the Dodgers are too fazed by the prospective salary of year three and beyond.
  18. I can only see two scenario's where the Twins deal any of their better regarded pitching prospects. First and least likely right now, would be to facilitate a return that could put us over the top in a pennant race. Secondly would be where someone is moved as a change of scene when production doesn't live up to the tools. Kind of like Alex Meyer. The talent is there and had value to the Angels, but the Twins weren't bringing it out.
  19. 1 - Urias, Bellinger 2 - De Leon, Alvarez, Beuhler, Stewart 3 - Bellinger, Diaz, Calhoun, Lux, Verdugo 4 - Taylor, Toles, Puig 5 - DeJong 6 - Thompson 7 - Alvarez, Beuhler, Lux, DeJong 8 - De Leon, Alvarez, Lux 9 - Not at all 10 - Comparable to last year 11 - 30
  20. True. I'm not suggesting it was you, but I'm just tiring of numerous post's that imply that 2016 was a fluke and Dozier is certain to decline from this point. While the HR total may not be sustainable, his track record and history say that it is more likely his overall production will improve or at worst plateau over the next few seasons. Turner's new Dodger deal only serves to support what a bargain Dozier is financially. In two years, if they want to keep him they'll have to pay him market value, or let him walk. Regardless, Brian is much more likely to win them post-season glory than any of the names bandied about in return over that time.
  21. You're correct, Turner's career high was over a 288-AB season in 2014. I'll even concede that his OPS of .872 over the last three seasons beats Dozier's .799 over the same span, in which Brian has averaged 260 more plate appearances per season. It is odd that Turner bloomed in his age 29 season, and has built on that over the next two seasons to earn a big 4-year Dodger contract, yet Dozier's age 29 season eclipsed it in almost every way (Turners OBP was .011 higher, but Dozier had more than double the plate appearances and started nearly every game), yet he's an aging veteran destined for decline. The park factor may be true as well, but you have to admit that Target Field's offensive numbers have been inflated by the extreme suckitude of Twins pitching ever since they opened the doors. Oh yeah. Dozier hits lefties. Tuner, meh... not so much.
  22. What's for sure with Dozier? Well, at a minimum 25-HR, 75-RBI, 90-runs, 10-SB & a .765 OPS, along with solid, at worst defense. Ironically, these numbers match up almost identically to the career best numbers just posted by a player two and half years older, that the Dodgers just committed $64mil to this week. Dozier has a track record as an everyday player. Mr. Moneybags just eclipsed 500-PA's for the first time in his career in 2016.
  23. I'm with you. I think he could be a potent LF in a couple of years.
  24. According to that update, they did give up 30% of their Top 10 for a three month rental of Hill and Reddick. Yes they resigned Hill, but he'll make more in each year of his deal than Dozier in two seasons.
  25. Based on where Lux & Stewart sit in their organizational rankings, I suppose that rules out Calhoun too. I like him as an OF in a year or two. His low whiff numbers and big power in a little package interest me.
