  1. Okay, a flame-throwing HS pitcher was about the last type of player I expected the Twins to take. I like it though. Was a bit afraid they would go with a bat first college COF again.
  2. So, Ty Madden is still there and clearly the best player remaining. Can we actually sign him, that's the million dollar question.
  3. By the way, something I wondered about: I remember Oakland being the second seed for the playoffs last year. Twins were the third, yet we pick after them. Do they use different rules for draft seeding than for the playoffs?
  4. True. I'm sure the Royals know more than me who has just read scouting reports...
  5. 100% agree. Had kinda hoped Bednar would fall, but seeing how he just went to the Giants that was probably a pipedream.
  6. If I were a Royals fan I wouldn't be thrilled about reaching for a HS pitcher. But who knows, maybe they're onto something.
  7. Wow. Wasn't Mozzicato supposed to go much later, toward the end of the first round?
  8. Certainly didn't expect Marcelo Mayer to still be on the board after the first three picks...
  9. The box scores for the FCL games should be available here: https://www.milb.com/gulf-coast/scores/ The one from yesterday is there, too. Not much there yet to draw any meaningful conclusions but it should be interesting to follow these young players. Seth, do you know why Marco Raya is on the IL? I hope it's nothing serious, there are already so many injured pitching prospects in the system.
  10. I have thought this for a while now. Makes no sense to have him play through this injury and possibly aggravate it when the season is lost anyway. I have to admit though, AK's wrist troubles worry me, especially since he already had them in the minors. If this becomes a chronic issue, his career might turn out less stellar than we all thought. I hope I am wrong.
  11. This is great for Randy but I also don't see how the Twins could possibly lose with this contract. $9.25 million for five years, that's not even $2 million per year. Even if he gets hurt and never pitches an inning again, that's hardly crippling the Twins. That kind of money is what a somewhat decent reliever makes on the open market and I think "somewhat decent reliever" is Randy's absolute floor. If he manages to stick as a starter, this contract could turn into an absolute steal. Shrewd move.
  12. I don't think that he actually does that pirouette in a game. At least he didn't do it in any highlight video I've ever seen of him, including Tom's above. And as pointed out, he didn't do it in the 97 mph video either. So I think the video of 99 mph was more of a "Let's disregard proper pitching motions for once and see how fast I can go" instead of a serious pitch. But really, that's one prospect I am really excited about. I liked the picked even when he was drafted. Back then he seemed more of a solid high floor guy with his four solid pitches and good command but it sure seems like everything has gone right for him in the time since then. The higher velo, the apparently vastly improved changeup... It's easy to dream on what he can one day become for the Twins. In fact, the only knock on him you ever read is his delivery. Remains to be seen how big of a problem that actually is. But it's certainly encouraging that he himself feels comfortable with it and the Twins seem to be okay with it too since they apparently never tried to change it. So maybe it actually works for him? Then again, I never played baseball myself, so I am really not an expert on things like pitching mechanics. But it will for sure be interesting to follow his season. I hope he gets some televised action in spring training.
  13. And now I am rooting for J.A. Happ to throw a shutout against the hapless Cleveland lineup (pun entirely unintended) just to prove this guy wrong. And for Alex Kirilloff to hit the game-winning home run.
  14. Surprisingly not, though you wouldn't know it just by looking at the number of Yankees caps worn around here. I feel like I see at least one whenever I turn around in public. I always wonder if it's a lack of taste or simply a lack of baseball knowledge. Probably the latter.
  15. There are not many advantages to being a baseball fan in Europe but this is one. I can just subscribe to mlb.tv without having to worry about blackouts. But I feel for you. (The disadvantage is that I have to worry about sleeping hours. No night games for me during the week... )
  16. These interviews are so great. Thank you for doing them, Seth. Maybe a bit off topic, but when Brent talked about facing Matt Wallner in college I wondered if the Twins ever thought of developing Wallner as a two-way player. A fastball of that velocity doesn't seem like the worst starting point to become at least a decent reliever. Do you know anything about that, Seth?
  17. I think Rortvedt should be a given too if you don't want to lose him. Given his strong defense it's very easy to imagine some rebuilding team taking him and keeping him on the roster as a backup catcher for the entire season.
  18. Thanks for the very interesting interview with Tom. He sounds great and I hope we see him at Target Field in the future. If you can arrange it, I'd love to hear from one of the 2020 draft picks who just came into the organization.
  19. Let's hope that Kirilloff's nerves are made of something stronger than steel. He'll need it. Buxton on the bench has to be concussion related, right?
  20. I would have the order a bit different, for example Rogers a bit farther down with the way he has been pitching recently. Overall though, when I look at the list I really marvel at the fact that out of these ten relievers, Poppen is the only one I wouldn't trust at all in a close game. That's pretty impressive depth and hopefully bodes well for the playoffs.
  21. Thank you, that was a really great read!
  22. Great win tonight. You know what the best thing is? Tomorrow's starter for the Sox is not Keuchel. Instead the Twins get to play against Reynaldo Lopez again.
  23. Sorry, should have been more specific. It's not Rocco's decision, Marwin has a "non-covid related illness" that hasn't been specified. To provide more depth in the middle infield Travis Blankenhorn has been called up and Smeltzer optioned. Also, Blankenhorn is apparently already in Chicago as member of the taxi squad but Rocco still chose Adrianza to play today.
