  1. According to Star Tribune The Twins likely will decline next year's $9.25 million option for righthander Scott Baker, making him a free agent, but it's possible the sides will agree to an incentive-laden deal. Baker had Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on April 18. He started throwing again this past week and expects to be pitching off a mound by late October, with no limitations by spring training. "I truly believe I'm going to come back 100 percent, if not better, after what I've had to put up with the last two years," he said. He turns 31 on Sept. 19 and is 63-48 with a 4.15 ERA in seven seasons with the Twins. "I like it here," Baker said. "I'm not saying there aren't other great organizations because I'm sure there are, but this is all I know. My family likes it here. I'm comfortable." Many of us have thought this is very possible & Baker sounds like he's all for it. Im absolutely in favor of an incentive deal.....let him make $10m if makes 32/33 starts with 200+ IP. Give me an injury free season, & money isnt an issue. Scott's better than most FA options out there. Problem is, I absolutely believe Pavano will be back.....that puts Carl/ 2 Scotts & Blackburn in rotation (Gardy said in last nites postgame...."Blackburn will be in the mix for the starting rotation next yr, but he will have to earn it"...yeah right). Dont see much change coming.
  2. Its not just that, he has a low avg and obp. All he is doing is hitting some homeruns. Which is cool, the guy has some power, but with a low contact rate and no ability to take a walk he wont get very far. Got off to a 7/42 start in first 10gms..... 289BAve .593slgg in last 34gms. May have been getting used to pro style. Lots of Ks yes.....needs to walk more, but did in college. Hopefully that will come....is one of my favs. If not Walker.....who's your 8-12 ranked guys??
  3. 13gms for SD 83.2IP 79h 34er (3.66ERA) 70k (7.5/9) 21bb 10hr's after tonights CG shutout vs Pirates San Diego must have gotten him to quicken up his pace on the mound:D
  4. sure.....no Rick Anderson telling him to quicken up his pace 13gms for SD 83.2IP 79h 34er (3.66ERA) 70k (7.5/9) 21bb 10hr's
  5. Gardy said postgame about Blackie/starters.....Ill take 3/4 er in 6IP any day......WOW have we lowered expectations
  6. Anyone think the 25 yr old RH reliever could fight for a job next yr??? Former 3rd round pick, so he was once thought of highly but was moved to pen this year & has flourished, except for 3 bad outings. In New Brit.... 22gms 2nd game 2IP 4h 4er 2k 0k 1bb 17th game of 22 .2IP 5h 5er 0k 1bb Other 20gms 27.2IP 27h 4er 26k 2bb In Rochester... 17gms countin tonight First game 2IP 7h 6er 1bb Since....16gms 27.2IP 18h 6er 13k 12bb I get all games count & he doesnt have a great AAA K rate/throws only bout 90, but this is what we're stuck with right now. Would you rather give him a shot over the Jeff Gray/Luis Perdomo types next yr or is he just AAA filler. I prefer guys with marginal 'stuff' who get hitters out over guys with 'stuff' who cant
  7. Hey Bert, was that ball that Doumit missed 'glowing'.....he is tough to listen to Wouldnt say anything about how, 40 secs earlier, he talked about how easy it was to see the ball on popups......
  8. isnt this about a Nick Blackburn version of a perfect game???
  9. Pedro Hernandez tonight6IP 7h 2er 3k We fleeced em!!!!
  10. there we go.....Blackie was one pitch away from actually havin an above average start (3er in 5IP....5.4 ERA) but BJ got him back to a game ERA of 7.8 (average start which is amazing) That is if he gets another out.
  11. Think they may have promoted him to see how he fares in AA to see if they want to keep him.Daniel Santana also is a Rule V guy & could be protected as MN doesnt have many middle infielders on 40 man. Both would be in New Brit next yr & they have protected some guys in the 23/24 yr old range that just completed Ft Myers in past. Not saying they worked out, but they will have to consider it.
  12. First start for ELIZ tonight......so far 3 perfect innings with 4K Night finished with 4IP 1h 1bb 5k....sweet
  13. per Jeremey Nygaard Eric Hurley asked for, & recieved, his release.
  14. 22 with 2 rehab guys leaves em a little time. Plouffe up Mon...pitcher (or Nishi) down keep em at 23 + 1 rehab. Puts New Brit @ 25 tho
  15. Butera in ...Doumit out vs David Price. Hmmmm have talked about Gardy 'not trying' to win. This is a decent example.
  16. WTF....walk the dogs & came back & Nick gave up 3runs already. Thought Butera was catching....what happenned to him??
  17. also....great page but Josmil Pinto (if Ive done my math correct) should be either Rule V eligible and/or a minor league FA after this yr.
  18. Quite frankly I think the PCL has no other options right now and that's the only reason the Vegas team still exists. Casinos pay for everything else so sure' date=' they could help out. As far as I know Steve Wynn could buy them tomorrow if he wanted to. I think the smartest thing for them to do is have their leadership stop dreaming about an NBA team and try and get private money into a nice AAA facility. They don't need any taxpayer money, the economy is lousy (based entirely on the housing market outside of the casinos) anyway so that wouldn't fly. If the folks there want to eventually get a major league sports franchise they should invest in the AAA team, put a new stadium next to the strip (you know, where the people are with the money to spend) then show that will work. It will, because they draw fairly well at Cashman which is in an area so bad taxis won't go there.[/quote'] There is a ton of land undeveloped just north of strip (old Stardust area)...so you could do it there & still be on the 'strip' couldnt ya?? Might have to relocate some homeless guys but.......
  19. Ha I bet the used car salesman wants baseball associated with Casinos and gambling about as much as he wants a heavy dose of Syphilis Improve that ballpark? Nuke it and build an indoor facility, which is way too expensive for AAA (or buy the franchise and move it some place temperate). Baseball just is not meant to be played in the low desert in the spring and summer months. Would Bud have say over a privately owned minor league team??? Article said they are locked into the PCL, so if a local business wants to make a donation, could he block it??? If not, he shouldnt have ever let it into the league.
  20. dont know if I agree that you have to be out of ELIZ to be top 10. Sano was first, Rosario was 3rd, Levi Michael 7th--Travis Harrison 11th(neither played), Madison Boer 12th (8 Beloit appearances) & Corey Williams 13th......according to BAmerica. Berrios is definately in the top 10 Not sure who would absolutely be 9/10 for me after Berrios/Gibson/Benson (still) at 6-8. I think he is top 10 unless I am missing someone (dropped Harrison down a bit myself to probably 10/11)....maybe Keplar 9/10 also.
  21. Why does the PCL keep a team in Vegas if the facilities are so bad......are any casinos allowed to pay/help out the club??? Those that have been there......what would you do for them to improve it???
  22. Now back for a wk (6/23 hitting) ....hope he's not goin to ELIZ next yr due to Buxton/Keplar/Walker/Jimmenez/Pineda bein in BEL. Seems like he may be an OF afterthought, was a 6th round pick & will only be 20 next yr, but seems like he's on outside looking in. Was pretty solid up to the hamstring injury after a poor GCL debut last yr.
  23. retributution night for Pedro???? Beloit has Tyler Rodgers goin vs Peoria.....unless we dumped the Snappers already:D
