  1. sounds like the mentality of another 90 loss season unfortunately.....'we are very close, just a tweak here or there....yadda yadda"
  2. Great job ignoring '09 and '12. During some seasons he was lucky and some he wasn't. he's a 4.00 ERA pitcher that is in decline. Not exactly what I'm looking for. I ignored 09 since that was the year of the elbow problems. Since, he's had 2 extremely solid yrs followed up by a bad one.....kind of his M.O. His 12' velocity of 91.7 is career low, but still better than any other Twins pitcher.....career 92.8 Last 10gms, he's been very good down the stretch with 5W 2L 64.1IP 42h .179BAA 22er 3.08era 57k 18bb...pretty solid No question he's inconsistent year to year but better than Liriano's game to game inconsistency
  3. Zito is not a FA this winter....one more year with a 2014 team option (7m buyout).
  4. Thrylos....Santana is a righty Kab.....Santana has been well above average the last 3/4yrs (3.65ERA in 66st in 10/11) but dont remember any elbow problems tho This is exactly who the Twins should target hard....the best of the 2nd tier FA's. 4 of last 7 yrs he's been over 200IP. Is a little inconsistent as he's very good about every other year. Rather go after Haren/Sanchez/Jackson etc but these guys are out of range of the cheap Terry Ryan...who tonight said payroll is doubtfull to go up again
  5. I still think Haren is WELL outta the Twins price range but he has been back to his old self since coming off the DL with the back problems. Last 11gms (not counting todays start) 61.2IP 55h .236BAA 24ERA 3.50ERA 45k 14bb Always considered him 'just' short of an ace but an incredibly solid #2 type.....would love to see him here
  6. Twins dont offer multi yr deals to pitchers tho. Lots of people think its the money offerred, but if a pitcher will take a 1 or 2 yr deal...then Terry Ryan will be interested. 3 yr deal....Twins are out. 4 yr deal, wont even negotiate. What kind of deal wil Dan Haren, at 32, be interested in?? His velocity was down a lot this yr (88.5 ave vs career 90.9) but I have always been a big fan of his. Hopefully MN will contact him.
  7. Ive always paid attention to differnce in OBP in regards to BAve also. Is there a basic number that shows what that difference is between em ( same as ISO for power )
  8. again, I think its hitter to hitter. Willingham is a .250 hitter with a .350 OBP. Span is a .300 hitter with .350OBP. A power hitter is more valuable than a singles hitter hitting .300 with .350OBP. Have to compare some numbers within positions/types of hitters. NOW, 2 singles hitters w/equal ISO....absolutely you'ld rather have the .300 hitter
  9. Exceptions to the Rule for $800, Alex. Who is Adam Dunn? Is there a record for difference in OPS and BA? Dunn has to be in the running. Remarkable, really. can add mark reynolds to that group also. Guy who gets on base at a high rate despite the low average & has an awesome ISO.
  10. Lucky for Deduno they got him out before Yanks crush that 'nasty' stuff that's produced a 4.58ERA. Duensing actually neutralizes the lefties like Ibanez/Chavez who were only playing due to a righty. Gardy couldnt come up with that idea himself
  11. Span fills a specific criteria for teams. He is a very solid, yet unspectacular player. Teams wanting a pure CF who is well above average but doesnt make highlight plays....teams wanting a pure leadoff hitter who doesnt steal bases like a 'leadoff hitter' & dont want to spend lots on money on that will be interested. Span also hits lefties very well but some teams may notice he's a much less quality hitter on the road Mets wont deal Niese since they just signed him to a 5 yr deal. Doesnt mean they cant, but most teams dont ....esp with pitching. Span should still bring something nice as FA CF's Bourne, Victorino & Upton may seem like better choices, but they will cost mucho money. Denard will be the far less expensive/less ceiling alternative for someone....hopefully Tampa for some of their extra pitching.
  12. Not necessarily as comparable as Baker made 10 starts @ 23 but @ age 24 Baker 16st 83.1IP 114h 6.37ERA 62k 16bb 17hr's Liam 15st 78.1IP 101h 6.09ERA 47k 24bb 17hr's If he turns out as good as Scot was (but injury free) Id be very happy but I am a fan of an injury free Baker Liam is frustrating right now, but I have tons of faith in him & would almost pencil him in for a spot next yr (esp if he has a similar spring training)
  13. thought there were no ABs for Hicks/Arcia.......seem to be enough for Carson. Looks like gardy got his win last nite & is throwing in the towel vs CC......surprised Butera isnt catching
  14. Batting Average is useless in correlation to certain players. Ben Revere ....very imortant as its the only way he gets on base Josh Willingham....umimportant as he's all about slugging percentage or even ISO power. Mauer....his ISO is same every year (cept 09) so his BAve is everything to his importance. If he hits .280, he's booed..... .320, hes an all star as the side numbers are generally the same.
  15. Yeah, they draw too many walks, hit too many homers, and score too many runs. They need to hit for a better average like the Royals. better pitching (playoff type starters) wont give up the HRs. Dont give up HRs to NYY....you win Give up HRs to NYY....you lose MN just doesnt have the type of pitching to limit the HRs....they dont have great stuff across the board. But to agree with ya, they draw a ton of walks to make those HRs 2/3/4 runs at a time.
  16. I might be in minority but I dont think much of the Yanks everyday lineup. Yes, a ton of HRs but very low BAve's. They can be pitched to, but of course MN has AAA guys trying to get em out. They have 'names' but not great players anymore.
  17. Many people assume that Dozier/Florimon will be the starting INF in 13. If that is the case, this is a 90L team again. MN MUST sign a legit starting middle INF this offseason, even with the need for pitching. If they can do this, then Carroll is the perfect UTI guy or maybe even a lighter starting 2B. He has very good value to me as he's a professional and this team needs that.
  18. TOR's Ricky Romero & Brandon Morrow are 2 Id legitimately love to target. Romero has been excellent for 3 yrs & a low level ace. He has 3yrs 22.5m left on his recent deal (w/4th yr option of 13m) so they could want to save money. His problem this yr has been control as he's maintained velocity. Morrow is in last year before FA and still hasnt put together a full season tho he was excellent this year when healthy. I thought this year would be his breakout yr but it may be 2013. Escobar is an above average fielding SS (uzr ranks) as well as offensively. He is due $5m next yr with 2 team options of $5m after the next 2 yrs. Any type of combo of P/SS would be excellent. I would think a Morneau deal would be the jist of it with the Canadian returning to his home country.
  19. 5.40 ERA in 12gm 11 starts with CHI .....3W 2L 56.2IP 54h 32er 32bb 58K Worse numbers than he had with MN
  20. I am not a Capps hater but I did not like the trade either. He was not a mediocre pitcher when they acquired him, as he was a legit All Star that season with Nationals, who had 3 that summer. I was not the biggest Ramos fan, who I see as a middle of road prospect still. TRyan rectified that deal by signing Ryan Doumit.....a better option. I agree that we should of taken the draft pick tho as closers can be overrated and the way Gardy uses em is proof of that. However, if they sign Capps to a total incentive laden deal to pitch the 7th/8th in Alex Burnett's spot, I wouldnt hate it....but ONLY an incentive games pitched deal to offset his arm problems.
  21. I am nervous about a multi yr deal with him considering they NEVER pitched him on 3 consecutive days once. This is something that a reliable late inning reliever is gonna have to do occasionally. With this in mind, I would probably offer 2 yrs with a 3rd yr option based on appearances
  22. Is a lock to go inti ST as a starter but its 50/50 if he makes the club. Gardy admits he cannot get by with his present walks & since hes out of options, i wouldnt be stunned if hes outrighted & claimed. To me, he's the guy holding down the position till Bakers ready May 1 or Gibson June 1
  23. Span is a good player...not great...who has some value & will get us a decent return. There has always been something about Denards attitude that rubs me wrong. On radio today, they talked about asking Span about Revere's highlight style catches & why.....despite bein a very solid OF...he never makes them himself. He replied he's too old for that WHAT
  24. Rather make a deal for someone like Brandon Morrow than mess around with whom Terry Ryan will chase....jeff francis types
  25. Ive actually been hearing national reports that think this yrs crop is incdedibly thin & overrated ......predicting that Jermemy Guthrie is gonna get 10m/yr type of crop
