  1. Aisle seats Chief, aisle seats......but hey if they want to install portable urinals at the seats, I'll stay seated.
  2. People who can't stand up and cheer with a beer in there hand without spilling it on me. There should be a rule that if you spill your beer on someone, you owe them a beer, simple. Ushers who still ask for my ticket stub despite seeing me walk back and forth to my seat every freakin' inning!!!
  3. http://t5.imagechef.com/ic/imgout/sampdeea355dbd4a1f94.jpg
  4. And a person can be a fan of the team with some good natured booing of the opposition, as a way to feel more part of the game. I find nothing more patronizing than people who pass themselves off as "real" fans by pretending they make the rules on how everyone is supposed to behave.
  5. I don't see why Jeter should be singled out, all of the Yankees should be booed, its an obligation. If I'm there I might cheer the fact we've seen the last of him.
  6. It has nothing to do with my enjoyment of the Twins on a day to day basis, I love baseball and I love the Twins and that is ultimately why I watch, that has nothing to do with determining success. In my view pro sports are a one way street, you play to win, and if you don't how do you call the season a success? There is only one successful team at the end of every baseball season, the team that won, everyone else goes back to the drawing board and tries to figure what it takes to be that one team. Sure some of those teams can take positives out of a season but that's just using the term success and surrounding it with their own context. Semantics? Maybe. It's a fine line between winning and losing which means it's a fine line between success and failure. I don't think you'd talk to many players whose season ended without a championship calling it a success, ultimately winning is the only thing that matters.
  7. Hard to fault TR for not wanting to be late to the party. The need was obvious, they identified who they wanted and got it done, kudos. I don't think anyone saw the Garza deal coming or Jimenez and Santana still being unsigned mid February. I'd be curious to see what the feeling would be around here if all TR had done was signed Pelfrey by now, would people still be talking about bargains or saying to raid the piggy bank before it's too late?
  8. I don't see anything wrong with voicing one's opinion on how they feel the Pohlads should run the team. As long as those opinions are relevant to the topic at hand and avoid personal insults it's a worthwhile discussion. It's when, as Brock states, those opinions find there way into every thread involving the Twins that it becomes unacceptable.
  9. In pro sports the only thing that matters is winning, that is the only measure of success. I'll consider the season successful if the Twins win. Things such as prospects reaching the MLB level and becoming impact players, or being in contention in the Fall/ reaching the playoffs are merely progress. I'm ok with seeing progress, but personally I wouldn't call it success.
  10. Avoiding the hornet's nest is much easier when all posters familiarize themselves with and follow the comment policy. The comment policy is the basis for which deletions and infraction points are handed out, not one's individual opinion.
  11. I get that as well Nurse, but really it's just a matter of diving in and getting over any reservations. It's how most of the core group in the game threads became as active as they are there, just open up, it's as simple as that. I think if you look back nobody is really ridiculed or ostracized in the game threads (as much as we should with RB), everyone is welcome, I'd love some new voices so I don't have to read so many of Chief's crusty old jokes, and I swear to God if I have to read another Carnac routine....please join in.....please, I'm begging! Seriously though, I hear you, I'm just not sure what can be done other to encourage people to come out of their shell.......anonymously on the internet.
  12. It's a double edged sword, I get showing your displeasure by not showing up and it's everybody's right to make that choice. However it can become a vicious circle if shrinking revenues begin to hamper the teams ability, or will to become competitive again. I realize the Pohlads and the Twins have the ability to spend more money but the organization has done a good job potentially setting the team up to be successful on the field in the next 1-2 years. I would think the fan base would support that despite what the results may reflect, knowing that it is headed in the right direction.
  13. Well I don't think anyone is saying that, nobody is aspiring for the Twins to be the CWS. They are a good comparison at the moment for current , relative level of competitiveness however, which is close to zero.
  14. This is really two separate discussions, one surrounding the effect on users and one surrounding the effect on crime. Legalization or decriminalization of drugs would undoubtedly lead to a decrease in the associated crime that occurs with illegal trafficking and the enormous costs, both fiscally and socially that go into fighting it. Decriminalization in particular would get rid of the absurd street level and user punishment that most populates the courts and prisons, taxes the resources of law enforcement and stigmatizes lower socio-economic demographics. On its own though it would not have much effect in the rate of usage or addiction among the population unless accompanied by a public health program designed to help people with that addiction. Legalization nor decriminalization eliminates the harmful use that drugs can have on people by itself, a large part of the social cost would still exist and that needs to be addressed. Portugal provides an interesting test case of this example. Although there are different views on what constitutes success, there has seemed to have been positive results on many fronts from that country decriminalizing all drugs.
  15. Ditto, my thoughts exactly......slight edge to Kirby's game 6 HR though, just because it was a single moment, where Morris' was played out over the entire game.
  16. This is an interesting discussion, I've been away and unable to commit any time to participating so far, but here goes. I really don't see any double standard occurring in the games threads. The comment policy on game threads was not written after the fact to provide mods with an excuse for breaking site rules while enforcing them elsewhere. They don't exist for our benefit and are open to anyone who wants to participate, with the same looser rules applying. A bastion? That's pure hyperbole, neither is it a clique or applying a double standard. It's an open double standard for everyone if anything, everyone is invited. Does the same double standard not apply to this thread? TD policy clearly states that open discussion about moderation is against site rules, yet here we are allowing anyone to openly comment about it. The fact that mods happen to most often populate the game threads has nothing more to do than the fact that they are typically amongst the busiest posters on the site. Additionally, as a thread that is wanting to be more inviting to newer or prospective members, having the mods actively participate is a great way to welcome those members into the fold and make them feel comfortable. It's one of the better threads to actually get to know someone a bit better and not feel intimidated by the often higher level of discourse that can occur in other threads. Game threads are simply an invitation to have some casual banter about really nothing in general, they are often quite directionless, a way to blow off steam during another 90 loss season without the typical vitriol that can occur in more serious threads. I don't think most people want that in other threads that pertain to more specific baseball related topics. Sure, everyone wants a bit of humour now and again but too often when the 10th grader language starts it's a sign that the thread is degenerating and getting personal. I think ChiTown has it right by saying that it really often depends on the context, too often those type of comments are not in context with the topic and serve only to derail it.Poor taste is a fine line and everybody has different tolerances to it and that's just the way it is. A pretty easy rule of thumb is that, if we're having a discussion about whether something is distasteful or not, it's probably distasteful to somebody, which makes it too close to the line. It will never be perfect but I do not see it as biased. I don't get this whole BYTO bias thing, I don't know who any of you are save a couple who self identify as such, so its not coming from here. I really don't see any comments from the other moderators that lead me to believe they feel that way either, honestly it never gets discussed. Anyway, stilted rant over....
  17. Another Super Bore.
  18. Well, he came back home and not to be outdone we arrested him as well, for being a bad house guest.
  19. I think it's a definite possibility Escobar is the Twins starting SS by the end of June.
  20. I have no problem with the interest in Diaz, you might be right, although there is question about his range at SS. My question was what that had to do with signing Drew, we're mainly talking about making the team better right now, especially offensively. If you don't want to lose the pick, fair enough, personally I would.
  21. Welcome, we're not really that clever. Hope to hear more from you, I think as Twins fans, we're all pretty lucky to have this site.
