  1. Good for both teams, Twins definitely risked more getting rid of a proven player, but with as much of a sure thing as it gets coming through in Buxton it was worth it.
  2. Why not both? You're making the assumption Diaz is major league ready, which there is considerable doubt on. Additionally there are quite a few out there that project him more as a 2nd baseman.
  3. It's nothing more than looking at every possible way to improve your team, with virtually zero cost and no impact to your 40 man roster. Complain about the major league signings all you like, but this? Pick your battles, this is just completely misplaced outrage.
  4. I played rugby 7's for a number of years, it is easily one of the most exhausting games you will ever play, if you're not fit, it's pure hell. It utilizes all the same basic rules as 15's except, conversions must be dropped kicked and the scoring team kicks off as opposed to the team that conceded the score. It is definitely a game predicated on speed and skill, it's making it's debut as an Olympic sport in Brazil in 2016. Carlin Isles, a member of the US team and former Olympic sprint hopeful is regarded as the fastest man in 7's,check it out. http://www.usasevens.com/las-vegas/carlin-isles-is-the-fastest-man-in-rugby/
  5. Wait, what? Wealthy celebrities get preferential treatment!?................No! I'd be setting my sights on the immigration official who granted him a 0-1B visa, which is given to immigrants who possess extraordinary ability in the arts or TV and movie industry. Who made that call!!???
  6. Fair enough, honestly I'm not that heavily invested in Drew personally, but despite as well as he can play defensively , I'm less invested in Florimon. I'm of the opinion an overpay on Drew is a reasonable gamble that won't necessarily handcuff the team and may end up returning more than it initially appears. There is no guarantee Florimon hits any better than he did last year, and it's frightening to consider that it's not so far fetched he could be worse.
  7. But doesn't Florimon's 2.1 WAR get there due to his superior value defensively? Which would mean that Drew's higher 3.1 value is based on a much more superior offensive value, which is exactly what the Twins need to improve. Florimon may be a better shortstop but Drew is a better player, and the Twins need better players. I'm not as confident as some about what's coming up the SS pipeline in the system, therefore Drew represents a way to improve at a position of weakness that isn't going to harm the future either by blocking someone or monetarily hamstringing the team.
  8. So you're saying he can DH on his off days?......well, who needs another bat then?! Winner!
  9. No, I think it's pretty safe to say they're pitchers right now.
  10. I agree with the sentiment that a bat is likely a better idea than Garza at this point, especially with a 4 year deal. Rome wasn't built in a day and the Twins have made some important, necessary additions to the rotation, time to add a bat and see what shakes off the FA tree next year for some pitching. Although if Gibson, Meyer and May progress positively, that might be priority B.
  11. And no mention of the Twins having interest with the Mets, Jays and A's.
  12. Really? Show me how that math works.
  13. I still can't wrap my head around this, there has got to be more we don't know. Maybe it's medically related, maybe Garza just had zero appetite to be a Twin again. It's hard to fathom Garza just slipped past everyone in the market for 52 million, makes no sense. Hard to fault the Twins, they aren't alone obviously, I support their aggressive approach early. At the end of the day, my gut tells me the Twins got the right guy anyway, that's not a slight on Garza.
  14. Hold on, I thought that was the secret ingredient?
  15. Just because someone is not employed by a major league baseball team, does not mean they don't know what they are talking about. There are plenty of knowledgeable, thoughtful and intelligent posters here. I think a lot of them know a great deal of what they are talking about. I also don't think most of them believe the Twins FO doesn't know what they are talking about. I think some rightfully question certain decisions, is that inherently wrong?
  16. Reasonable opportunity, no downside really.
  17. He's all yours, you created the monster, you can keep him.
  18. You're telling me you can't tell which one is Larry Walker?.......Wow!
  19. We don't want him, Greenland maybe?
  20. Well now I'm just more cheesed I can't make it. I'll try to be happy for the rest of you, hope it's a blast.
  21. I'm sure the Tigers wish they had more lefties.... Mr. Albers had his 15 minutes of fame, if he was realistically part of the plan in 2014, the Twins were in deeper than any of us could have imagined.
  22. Hmmm, pending move by the Twins? Hard to imagine they didn't know this was happening. Maybe Albers has an ESL gig on the side, good money in Korea for that.
  23. Huh, what? When did Antony scout Japan? I must have missed that in the column. Wasn't Bill Smith the GM? Not that I blame him either but he was sitting in the big chair.
