  1. Mike Sixel, the trade works out for both teams. Again as long as Hughes and the draft pick deliver less than 1 WAR we win the trade.
  2. I would hate it if the savings was only 1 million or so. I dont see how this is a bad trade. Our window is now. In 5-6 years we will likely be retooling anyway. The Twins upped their budget for this season and hopefully will do so next yeargiving us even more to spend in the offseason. Lets see how this plays out before being so judgemental first.
  3. I wish my phone let me quote. Mike, with all the players who will be free agents, i imagine we will dip into free agency to resign a few, and to sign a few others, and make trades where we may take on some money.
  4. With santana off the books too that now clears over 70 million off of payroll. And buxton and sano are not doing much to deserve big pay raises, keeping payroll low again...
  5. This trade is about the next moves and not this one. I think the dislike is you need to see the next moves to better judge this one. Is another low level prospect beeter or having 8 million more now while we are in our competetive window?
  6. Also i like how its next seasons money we free up and not this seasons.
  7. The savings is 7.5 million plus .812 milliin for the pick they arent getting. I bet the Twins have a pretty good idea of about 10-20 potential picks who are likely to be available then and decided the savings was better. Remember the draft is what a week or so out. Not much scouting left to do here.
  8. Isnt a WAR around 8 million? So as long as the 74th pick and Hughes dont combine to have a net present value of a WAR its a good deal for the Twins. Remember the Pads wont get any value from that pick for 3-5 or even 6 years. Next years payroll now has very little dead weight and lots of flexibility to make maneuvers next offseason.
  9. Also Buxton and Polanco are making strong cases for a low arbitration raise when they qualify for arbitration...
  10. I think that is a fair trade. We got filler and 6.6 million. With all the other money comming off the books next year, should be a fun offseason. Comming off books Mauer 23 million Dozier 9 million Escobar 5.5 million Lynn 12 million Duke 2 million Hughes 6.6 million Grossman 2 million (non tender candidate) Thats 49.1 million and i dont know ig Gibson is a FA this offseason or next, and Morrisons option as well but i bet they pick that up if he keeps hitting the way he has in May vs April.
  11. Colon is giving up a homerun every 4 innings. His ERA will significantly climb if he gives up more hits or walks... i do hope he gets those last 4 wins he needs to be the winningest Dominican pitcher.
  12. If you do the season totals maybe a minor league monthly stat update could be posted showing the stats of each team or links to each teams stat page with some thoughts as a prelude.
  13. I think our AAA team could use some power as well. But i see this as mauer or DH insurance as well.
  14. Odorizzi still averages about 1 HR per 5 innings pitched. Buxton in the OF helps keeps his hits down if he would walk fewer people he could be a number 2 starter here.
  15. Lynn to pen demote Rogers if his era is still over 6.00. Lynn needs to get the same speech Hughes got a few weeks ago.
  16. On baseball-reference there are 20 players in franchise history with 100 career stolen bases with the team including the time spent in Washington DC. In Minnesota it appears that number is 7 maybe 8 as there are a few players i never heard of. There aee quite a few on the list who fell just short.....Nick Punto with 89, Denard Span at 90, Matt Lawton at 96...but we do have someone on the team who can either make it to 100 or just miss it. Dozier is at 92 career steals. If he isnt resigned this offseason, then this year is his only chance to get to 100 career steals as a Twin. 100 career steals is not the biggest accomplishment out there but as a Twin its pretty big. A player is twice as likely to hit 100 homeruns for us as there are around 15 players who did that in Minnesota and remember all those powerless years in the 90's and 2000's? So lets root for Dozier on his quest to get to 100 stolen bases as a Twin https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/leaders_bat_50.shtml
  17. Health is the solution. And not taking banned substances. Those two things would give our lineup Sano, Castro, Polanco, and a Buxton who isnt rusty. Thats a lot of improvement.
  18. His numbers in AAA looked like he would be a solid depth piece. I hope he doesnt go all Chargois on us an become a great reliever for someone else. What bothers me is the timing. Why now?
  19. Try to make me go to rehab i say no no no......Amy Winehouse
  20. No, i was saying if sano is going to have leg problems moving forward and gains more weight, he will likely move to DH sooner as a preventative measure to limit risks of future injuries.
  21. Odds are he would be the full time third baseman by next year. Sano isnt holding up too well over there. Sano will likely be a DH who plays some at third and 1B after this or maybe after next season if we keep Morrison another year.
  22. The Indians are in first place with not only a loosing record but the eighth best record in the AL. The Twins are second ,half game back, with the ninth best record in the league.
  23. Ckeveland just lost so we are now a half game out of first.
