  1. I keep them held high until the PK takes the field in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. Just like everybody else I assume.
  2. I'm a Vargas guy I believe he received chances to prove himself last year and didn't. However... I also believe that he didn't fail to the point that he needed a bus ticket. He's young... He's affordable and he can hit the ball a long way. If he fixes a couple of issues... and players do fix issues every once in awhile. He could turn into something that everybody needs. I'm quietly hoping that he has a place on the roster next year.
  3. And after the big apple thriving. We would have been pissed!!!
  4. Landing both Darvish and Otani would be the greatest Twins off-season ever. I'm going to keep my expectations in check because I've never been allowed to reasonably have such expectations.
  5. I like that we will be playing the Royals, Tigers and White Sox more than the Astros and Red Sox get to. I like that nearly all AL Teams have serious Starting Pitching questions. However, Supply and Demand suggests that the prices for starting pitching might be a little higher this year. However... Having it... will be an advantage.
  6. I believe that the team will let you know when it is time to step on the gas. I believe the team let them know it is time to step on the gas. I'll be disappointed if they don't step on it. In 2015... The Twins were in it until the last weekend. In the off-season that followed... IMO... Terry Ryan and his staff supported that effort by getting even younger and that was when I went from suspecting that a change at the top was necessary to being sure that a change at the top was necessary. This off-season... I'm going to fully expect the new regime to fully support the efforts of 2017 and attempt to take it up a level. It isn't time to acquire more young players that we have to wait on... It isn't time to under spend... it's time to step on the gas. The White Sox, Tigers and Royals are rebuilding. The American League as a whole is weak in the starting pitching department. STEP ON THAT GAS!!! RIGHT NOW!!!
  7. Strictly speaking from a "how does he look on our roster" standpoint. YES... Absolutely... YES I have no idea what he would cost... I have no idea how his cost would compare to others who might be available. All of that aside... We could use the guy... I think he's fantastic.
  8. If I understand it correctly. The Twins have the third highest amount of International Pool dollars to offer him but it really isn't enough of a difference to stop him from simply choosing whatever team he wants to sign with. It seems that his recruitment will have the feel of the top QB picking what college team he wants to play for. The Coaches will be buzzing with promises. So with that in mind... what unique thing can Minnesota offer him to get him to spurn those other teams and sign with us. Here's some ideas: 1. Have the State of Minnesota declare that Mille Lacs Lake will be called Lake Otani. Mille Lacs is a goofy name anyway. 2. Promise him a starring movie in Fargo II. Write a Scene where he puts whoever is responsible for the posting system in the woodchipper. 3. Endorsement Contracts for Red Wing Shoes, Best Buy and Target. The contracts will contain stipulations that provides free shoes for life, unlimited 15% off of everything Target gift card and his own personal geek squad to fix any issues on products purchased at Target. 4. His own private skyway that stretches from Target Field to Cancun, Mexico so he doesn't have to endure Winter at all. 5. That really big spoon with a Cherry on it. Just give it to him. We don't really need it.
  9. I was hoping he would sign with my favorite team... The Orix Buffaloes. Just Kidding... I don't have a favorite Japanese Team.
  10. It's all about the splinters for me. He got all of them on the field without anybody getting splinters in their hind end from bench time.
  11. Based on the results expectation formula that exists somewhere to make these determinations. It should be Paul. However... My personal choice is AJ Hinch because I like how he did it. He had a full roster of players to mix in and utilize. That is both an advantage and a skill that some managers don't possess. So I'm going with AJ but think it should be Paul.
  12. I have heard nothing to give me optimism. However necessity is the mother of invention and I'm optimistic that this necessity is in plain sight. Who is going to close? Will they hand the ball to Hildenberger, Rogers, Pressly, Busenitz or Duffey after careful consideration of sophomore slumps, injuries and K Rates or will they give Molitor more experienced options to increase his options in case the young guys end up being slightly below par. How many quality bullpen arms will they need if your starters are consistently going 6 innings tops (and the reason everybody is screaming starter suggests that we won't have a ton of complete games minimizing the bullpen usage) while... while... the young offense is producing in 2018 and looking for some support synergy on the mound. I'm simply optimistic because "Necessity is the mother of invention". Then again... Desecration is the better part of valor. I gotta stop reading things.
  13. I don't know what verb or adverb means but Breslow means "well under budget" in German.
  14. Will the New Front Office show support to a young team that reached the playoffs? Will they support the steps up by Buxton, Rosario and others by acquiring the bullpen arms necessary to compete at a top team level? Did they notice the bullpens being built by their competitors? Or will they Craig Breslow the way through the problem? I will be very curious
  15. Of course I'm taking a different approach. At those listed terms/dollars. I'm signing Addison Reed Mike Minor Jake McGee Joe Smith That's about 26 Million and I'm spending it. I'm giving Minor the chance to compete for a rotation spot. If it doesn't work out he can always return to the pen. I've seen Pomeranz, Peacock and others return to the rotation and produce extremely well... I believe it can happen again... all it takes is opportunity and this possibility makes Minor my Number 1 Free Agent Target. All of our young arms have options so they can serve as insurance/depth. I'd start 2018 with a Bullpen of Addison Reed Joe Smith Jake McGee Trevor Hildenberger Taylor Rogers Ryan Pressly Alan Busenitz (Busenitz Starts in AAA if Minor is in the Bullpen) Duffey goes to the minors(Sorry he didn't earn the right to stay) I'm also taking a flyer on that Miles Mikolas for 5 Million. With Numbers like that... I'm taking a chance. Win some Lose Some... Roll the Dice. I have no idea what the guy can do... Just rolling the dice because I'm hopeful that he is a miracle. Starters for 2018 Ervin Santana Jose Berrios Mike Minor Kyle Gibson Miles Mikolas Start the Year in Rochester Mejia Gonsalves May That is how I'm adding 31 million to the payroll and making a young competitive team deeper on the mound. I'd like to add a power threat to hit behind Sano but I don't like the options available... So I'm going to kick that can down the road.
  16. Stockpile When the Twins win the World Series in 2018 they will be glad that they stockpiled. The Astros Had Gattis, Beltran, Maybin and Fisher on the bench. You have a young squad that just made the playoffs. It's time to support them by supplementing the roster in every nook and cranny.
  17. If the trade would have happened. If DeLeon would have thrown 40 professional Innings... including a 6.75 ERA in Rochester over 12 innings in 2017. If Dozier hit 30 plus Home Runs with the Dodgers in 2017. The immediate result on TD would be a public hanging of the brand new front office from the majority of us. It would have taken multiple years before they are forgiven... if ever. It would have been a real bad first impression that would last. I give them credit for a fantastic non-trade... and I will still give them credit if DeLeon eventually becomes a dominant MLB Starter.
  18. The Twins have not spent up to their potential under Terry Ryan. Under Bill Smith I think they were close. I've been willing to give Terry Ryan the slightest of pass for two reasons. 1. The team hasn't looked augmentable (I may have made that word up) in the past 5 or 6 years. 2. I'm not always convinced that Money is the answer. Fast forward to today. I believe that we should spend some money on the pitching side to try and match the potential of our offensive side. I think the team should be around 130 or 140 million. Anything less will be disappointing... in my opinion.
  19. It's never as simple as looking at the DMA and saying the Twins Cities are the 15th largest market. Baseball is regional. Seattle is 14th Portland is 25th Seattle gets both markets. This is why the Orioles were upset about the Nationals moving to DC from Montreal. The Twins don't have a Portland... They have a Little Falls.
  20. Asking Byron Buxton to adjust his defensive playing style is like asking a Lion to eat vegetables.
  21. May you gather as much stamina as you can Tom because many of us have become addicted. I'll never take these things for granted. Daily content like you provide is VERY HARD to do. Each blank page is a project. It makes your impressiveness more impressive.
  22. Gee threw some nice innings for us. I'm ok with him but I did list him last on purpose.
  23. Staff: I won't touch that one with a 10 foot pole. I have no idea if they are good or not. I leave these decisions to those responsible for such decisions. Bullpen: Go sign 3 or 4 Top End Closer capable guys and let them know that they will be competing and given fair consideration for the closer job. Choose from Reed, Neshek, Gregerson, Clippard, McGee, Shaw, Minor, Kintzler, Smith, Petit and Morrow. Maybe Minor or Petit or Morrow could return to a starting role ala Pomeranz or Peacock. The Yankees, Astros and Indians are DEEP in the bullpen... 5 6 or 7 shutdown arms in the bullpen. The Twins also need that. This of course will cause excess in the bullpen and the 40 man but you can take that excess and package it in a trade for a starting pitcher hopefully. Starter: Trade for one using the excess after the bullpen acquisitions. DH or Anywhere: Find a bomber to hit behind Sano.
  24. I'd be willing to consider Chatwood, Cobb, Lynn, Hellickson, Moore and Gee Although... I would still rather see the Twins spend 20 million on 3 or 4 top end bullpen arms instead.
  25. In no way am I suggesting that balls and strikes cost us the game yesterday so please don't come away with that impression. However... That missed third strike on Didi right before the home run was huge. If the ump gets that right... No Home Run... Two Outs and maybe the Twins wriggle out of it with a zero hung. I believe things tend to even out in the long run but in that moment... it was a huge call and the aftermath was 3 runs on the scoreboard and it was a one and done game with little chance for the law of averages to make that up. I just want Balls and Strikes to be correct and automation is the only way it can be done. The human eye can't do it. I realize that if last night's game was automated... We might find that Santana got the benefit of some strike calls... maybe even in the fateful Didi at-bat... but... by itself... that specific missed strike call cost us 3 runs. Please automate the calls for 2018
