  1. 8? Really? So you're not giving him credit for his upside, which is immense. And you're not giving him credit for his performance, which has been excellent. And you're not looking at his projectibility as a 6-foot-9 22-year-old who throws in the high 90s. What exactly are you looking at that has you ranking him that low? I think I like the trade more than John, but I don't think ranking him #8 is terrible. He does have tremendous upside, but he's a tall guy with occasional mechanical issues. There is a lot of risk there. You have to consider that when you do rankings.
  2. I'm just stating the obvious here, but it all depends on what we can get it return. The Twins shouldn't feel like they have to dump the guy. He's very valuable to the Twins for reasons John stated. However, we probably aren't going to compete next year. If we can get a B-level pitching prospect, than you take it. Building for the future is the goal.
  3. Im really just not that interested in trading with the Reds. Im hoping The Rays...but they have a pretty smart front office and likely will say no to the Twins demands for Span similar to the Braves. I would be happy with the Rays, as well. But like you siad, they have a very smart front office. Probably best in baseball. I don't see us getting the better end of that deal.
  4. I'm deathly afraid of the Twins acquiring Chen. Yikes. Hochevar might be a worthwhile gamble.
  5. Or we could remain level-headed. There is no evidence that the Braves were willing to give up much of value to the Twins for Span. Hopefully the Reds are willing.
  6. Dave, I didn't say he started any games last year. The Astros knew he was going to be traded during the season, and thought he would have more value as a closer.
  7. Glad this turned into a heated Doumit debate. I would be just fine with a Myers signing. The only reason the Astros moved him out of the rotation is to give their younger arms a shot and to increase his value at the trade dead line (not sure if logical).
  8. Yes, I think Oswalt has plenty left if he can stay healthy, but no, he won't be coming here. He wants to stay in the south, and probably would rather retire than pitch in Minnesota.
  9. Um..yeah. This thread sure took a turn for the worst. Good luck to Nishioka. I hope he tears it up in Japan.
  10. In terms of the offseason timeline, no, it's not too late to acquire other pitchers. But I'll go ahead and panic for a different reason: The Royals just set Jeremy Guthrie's price point at $8.33 million per year. Anybody else here hoping we would pick up somebody better than Jeremy Guthrie? Given that his deal was significantly more than Willingham's, which is far and away the richest FA contract the Twins have ever paid out, I'm don't think this is exactly a good development for us. The only plus side to it is that we aren't stuck with Jeremy Guthrie, but neither are 28 other MLB teams. Back in September, there were people hoping to get Anibal Sanchez for exactly the type of numbers Guthrie just got. How delusional does that look now? That's what I'm worried about, too. This is just an outrageous contract for a mediocre pitcher. And please, nobody act like this would of been a good signing for the Twins.
  11. Exactly what I was thinking.
  12. How is this Terry Ryan's fault? He is not a member of the Pohlad's family. All he can do is make small moves under budget constraints. Also, I know this topic is more about the philosophy or making big splashes than the specific deal. However, anyone who thinks this would have been a good trade for us is just wrong. The Twins would still be terrible. The Jays had a really good squad to build off. It's going to take the Twins awhile to reach that level.
  13. He's plus defender in the corner with a solid bat?
  14. I fully expect Gibson to be in the opening day rotation. He'll be solid as long as his healthy. That's the only question mark in my mind. I also expect Wimmers to rebound. That would be huge, as we would at least have three solid starters.
  15. This is what the Marlins do. And they always come back as contenders. Not a shock, and not a terrible thing to do. They weren't going anywhere with those guys. They went all in last year, and failed miserably. Now they get to start over, instead of treading water (like another certain team).
  16. Agreed. This is a joke of a thread. Honestly, stuff like that this should be a ban-able offense.
  17. Like I said, I was probably being hypocritical, and will stop now. But, to me, those are the guys that killed the civility around here. I'm done now! Promise.
  18. He just had a stretch of 10 good games in a row.
  19. At the risk of being hypocritical, I have to say this. "mike wants wins" and "twinswon1991" are absolutely killing this board with their obnoxious negativity. They poison, every, single, thread. It's not that I don't agree with them, it the way they go about things. They add almost nothing to the conversation. They only complain. If I'm the only one that feels this way, I'll just go on my merry way. But I can't stand reading these posts anymore.
  20. Yes, because it was Terry Ryan who made this decision, not the Pohlads.
  21. Big difference, Delmon Young sucks.
  22. I'm extremely jealous of that beard.
  23. Yep, I'd pretty much trade Span for Cigrani, straight up. Not that I undervalue Span. I just think Cigrani could be a stud.
  24. First off, none of our OF prospects are really beating at the door right now. Arcia has been fantastic, but he just got promoted to AA. I have to think he needs more time there, and it wouldn't hurt for him to get time at AAA as well. Secondly, Willingham will have value next year. There will be plenty of teams in contention at next year's deadline. There is no reason to expect his value to fall off a cliff after one year. Unless the Twins get blown away by a deal this year, hold on to him. Don't take that PR hit just yet.
