    Ha! Zumaya didn't work out, but it was still a smart signing. The guaranteed money thing was the reason he chose the Twins.

    Punto and Carroll middle infield, get it done! In all seriousness, it probably would be a better infield than Dozier, Florimon, Escobar/Carroll.

    Waiting a few weeks to get an extra year of service time is absolutely a good idea. And it's not like he couldn't use some time at AAA. As for Benson, it's been said he also played through some injuries last year, accounting for some of his struggles. Maybe Seth knows a little more about that.     WOW. More people defending this trade than bashing it. I..don't know what to say. Shields is very good pitcher, but he doesn't turn a mediocre staff into a good one by himself. Because Terry Ryan isn't a complete idiot.

    I am absolutely fine with that plan. Wimmers might compete for a spot at some point in 2014, too. As for this year, Lirano makes more sense than any of the guys you listed. At least there is some (small) potential of him having an ace year. With these other guys, you'd be hoping for a mediocre year at best.

    Personally, I would love to get Edwin Jackson on a three year deal. I'd be wary handing out any contract longer than that to the guys that are available.

    Bringing up Dickey's stats from the past 10 years is a joke if you know anything about his back story. How can you not know anything about his back story? He's a great pitcher who could definitely pitch well into his 40s. Still, he's not a good fit for the Twins. We're not an ace away from competing. We need to develop aces.

    Wow, huge trade. Both guys seem to have upside. Good K/9 rates. Worley had successful bone chip removal in September. Injury bothered him last year. The year before he had very nice numbers.

    I couldn't care less about Terry Ryan acting like he's going to make the Twins competitive in 2013. That's what he's supposed to say. But realistically, he knows it's going to take some time. Draft well. That's all the Twins can seriously do at this point. EDIT: And yes, I wish the Pohlads spent more money. They can certainly afford it. But the reality is, they won't. I don't blame TR for that.

    Pat Venditte! Just do it Twins. I want to see some switch-pitching action. It would make a long year a little more entertaining, at least.

    Pretty depressing. Makes me wish we could trade Willingham and Morneau and just commit to a full-on rebuild. Sadly, they might not have as much value as we think they do. And of course there would be a massive PR hit.

    GREAT article. There is a lot to be excited about with this guy. Do you think his release point is easier on his arm than an over-the-top delivery?

    I fully expect the rotation to include Diamond, Gibson, and Hendricks. Those guys, if healthy, need to pitch at the MLB level. If we can sign two veterans, I think we have a solid (not great), rotation. Say, Sanchez McCarthy Diamond Gibson Hendricks With Deduno, DeVries, and Walters when needed. I'm probably dreaming with Sanchez, but maybe a guy like Haren would be realistic. Not saying this rotation would make the Twins contenders, but it's a rotation that could make them competitors. Without really disrupting the rebuild.
