  1. Stros fans are on their feet, cheering for their team to add to a five-run lead in the 8th. On behalf of the Twins organization, I'm embarrassed and envious, not irritated.
  2. Professor Polanco, in the conservatory, with the Louisville candlestick.
  3. They'd have to fall pretty hard to hurt Austin, it's like 200 miles away.
  4. Yup, and yet there's considerable hand-wringing being invested in whether we'll be able to bring back a very average 36 year old first baseman next year as the otherwise missing piece of a contender.
  5. Or Ben Revere, whose throws would sometimes roll to a dead stop 20 feet short of the infield.
  6. MLB rule states that third visit requires the manager to send a postcard to the dugout.
  7. Losing can help build character, just like other kinds of adversity. Up to a point, anyway. I'm going to arbitrarily designate anything more than 10 games below .500 at this point in the season (for me, anyway) as non-character-building. So the new stat for this is Losses Beyond Character-building, or LoBeyChab. The Twins are 12 below .500, for a LoBeyChab of -2.0. If your own personal LoBeyChab gets to -10.0, you are advised to discontinue use of Twins BaseballTM and consult a physician.
  8. There was also a nice assist by some kid named Jaeger or whatever, something with a J and an R, anyway.
  9. At this point, unless the opponent is the O's, the Jays, or a non-Cleveland AL Central team, any win by this Twins team is inexplicable.
  10. He's certainly not the problem, but isn't it possible that a player who is the third mostly highly paid first baseman in MLB, but not among the top 20 1b's in either WAR, slugging, or weighted OBA, is at least a problem?
  11. I'm tempted to say I give up, but my life coach would be furious.
  12. Still no cure for the common Kohl...
  13. MLB seems to have a little more than its fair share of guys who prove that you can be an athlete despite being emphatically NOT athletic.
  14. I already tried my best material (which is admittedly about the same as my worst material), but this Twins fan base is inconsolable...
  15. So near, and yet so far... In fairness to Stewart, he did show a little more tonight than in his first two outings. And watching him beats having the front office call Ricky Nolasco to see what he's up to these days.
  16. Eh, no biggy if he doesn't cut it as a starter. I'd have to look it up to be completely sure, but it's not like the Twins burned a really high draft pick on him or something, right? Edit:
  17. Well, we've learned at least one thing by watching him so far, which is that one answer the judges will accept to the question "How good does your fastball have to be if it's your only reliable pitch" is "Better than Kohl Stewart's". That being said, I'm ok with him making a couple more starts before they consider the Trevor May career path of promoting him from starter to low-leverage middle reliever.
  18. And that's with the immense draw that is Logan Forsythe's late bid for the Hall of Fame. Imagine the ghost town TF would be without his phenomenal Twins career / scintillating season / nice month.
  19. Agreed, but I'm holding off on the 'Gardy Jr.' label until Molitor gets crushed by the Yankees in the playoffs a few more times. Also, Molitor's face has yet to achieve that shade of cherry tomato red that Gardy's did when he was ejected. Hope he's not giving up on getting there some day.
  20. I also joined late after a run, to the store for Doritos. The lads mounted a nice comeback that fell short, but my lasting takeaway will probably be that Sano ran hard to first and beat out a ground ball that he probably wouldn't have in the spring. And the guys in the dugout looked genuinely excited for him.
  21. Most of their pitchers look ruffy. They don't have great stuffy. It's making fans gruffy.
  22. Who, me? Ok, maybe a little, but I was looking more in the direction of 'Red Pill' Magill for that. The Goodrum cleanup thing is just another one of those 'What next?' deals, but in the end, he's not a whole lot above replacement level, so his hitting 4th is really about how bad the Tigers are instead of how bad the Twins should feel that they let him go.
