  1. Yes! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vLXecNnCn88/US6Ao5VejwI/AAAAAAAADM8/axvZYqvmAYs/s1600/the-golden-calf-idol-from-the-ten-commandments.jpg
  2. Hawkeye scoops Fangraphs! Well done.
  3. TC shot a T-shirt to me that fell short of the mark, but managed to wrestle it from the bratty nine year old whose head it bounced off of. Will always treasure the memory of the rush that the lottery tickets purchased with the Ebay sale of it brought me. That said... http://s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/3qwxu0KKlPKqsMXv3X-FyQ/l.jpg Judo Bourne chicken ftw. Sorry, TC. Thanks again, though.
  4. Nice work by the OP, you raised some good points about how Hicks' season is going. But for the moment my tent is still in the stringer/Sconnie camp. There are definitely some signs of improvement at the plate. But defense remains a work in progress at best, and as Sconnie pointed out, guys in the low .200's or worse, especially with little power, usually have trouble sustaining a walk rate like Hicksie's. And like stringer mentioned, he's on a Road Less Traveled to major league success if that's his destiny. Rooting for him and hope he continues to get regular playing time, in MN or The Other Rochester based on what's best for him and not the organization's 2014.
  5. Yes! And that's just a warmup for handling the excitement of the comet-blazing-trail-across-total-lunar-eclipse excitement of an AL team executing a double switch.
  6. That's me, perpetual optimist. But in fairness to me, there is a drug in the late stages of FDA approval that treats Trachselitis. The side effect disclaimer reads like an ER admitting log, but fingers crossed. Btw, if you google 'Steve Trachsel' and the letter 'h', the first autofill is "human rain delay".
  7. It's ok, Kevin. You exceeded our wildest expectations last season. Still plenty of time to turn 2014 around...
  8. 7:25 central time remix.
  9. Whew. Was starting to worry that game thread creation would be left to an amateur tonight. But forgot how late the west coast start times are.
  10. That would be my expectation. They're probably not worried about his fastball playing at the next level, and don't want him going out there and just blowing the doors off of guys with the heater and slider while his offspeed stuff rusts. It's more about teaching than testing in low A.
  11. Immediately lost interest in them with whatever the album was that came out after Rio. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ac/DuranRio.jpg/220px-DuranRio.jpg Number 65 on NME's top 100 albums of all time, which surprised me. Now if I had really wanted to invite scorn and ridicule for an 80's guilty pleasure, I'd have said Hall and Oates... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/42/Hall-Oates-ICan%27tGoForThat.jpg
  12. Well, we can cross Drew off the list of potential people to add to the mix... http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/20/stephen-drew-has-a-job-hes-back-with-the-red-sox/ Same deal as the qualifying offer, pro-rated to the remainder of the season. Agent fail.
  13. His Babip is 30 points higher than last year, but his K rate is only one percent lower, at just over 25 percent. Tough to push the average very high when you fail to make contact in one of every four PA's. It will be interesting to see if he can sustain the improved walk rate with such a low batting average. You'd think that at some point opposing managers would start fining their pitchers for walking a .200 hitter with very little power...
  14. The point of the Ortiz comparison was mostly to illustrate the folly of small sample size. Almost any hitter can look like two different players depending on which 200 plate appearances you look at. Suzuki has been essentially a backup-level catcher for two years, and should be regarded as such unless he manages a full season well above replacement level. He's got a good start on that, but that's it.
  15. Zukes hasn't had a wRC+ over 90 since 2009, and was below 70 the past two seasons. The only reason his career averages are substantively different from Junior's is that he had two nice seasons five and six years ago. Even with those two nice seasons, KS's wOba is only about 25 points higher than Junior's, and Ortiz was a pretty awful hitter. He's riding a nice hot streak but giving him a two year extension as a reward for two or three good months... can't see it. And if he's still on his ridiculous pace in July or even August (unlikely), he'll want more money and/or years. Committing 10 million over 2 years to a guy who's a backup on a contender doesn't sound good. Not the end of the world, just not good use of finite resources.
  16. Mauer>Cola. Unironic good find.
  17. http://dinca.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/Stop-Making-Sense-Poster.jpg
  18. So offense aside, how is the trade situation shaping up? Recent Mauer glove gaffes aside...
  19. If by "dump" you mean trade, why not? For fear of missing out on more .400/.526/.467 weeks? Not trying to be contrarian, and doubt he has much trade value even now, but wouldn't trading him now be the exact polar opposite of dumping a player whose value to the future is sketchy at best?
  20. I... what? Well played.
  21. Doing something as simple as cutting out a paper snow flake has caused the mass manufacture of left-handed scissors. Hicks has been attempting to execute arguably the most coordination-intensive athletic activity on earth using his less-coordinated configuration. Yes, many naturally right-handed hitters had successful careers switch hitting, but that number drops when you eliminate non-1b infielders, who have a vested interest in throwing righty and played positions that forgive a lack of hitting.
  22. You're not the only person wanting the Twins to start him almost every day, level aside. Whether that constitutes patience or prudence for a rebuilding franchise, well, wrong thread.
  23. You mean back when teams used to routinely carry three catchers? The good old days! Makes me want to get high on Jolt and Duran Duran. Well, Jolt at least.
  24. Good catch. Learn something every day here.
  25. Yeah. Though a huge fan of America's 'work your way up' culture, it would make me a little nervous to take a drug made under the watchful eye of a Vice President of Development and Testing who had served 15 years in marketing and 15 weeks overseeing the vetting of stuff going into my body, with a possible side-effect list that reads like a dark Stephen King passage.
