  1. It's tempting to research this to see about the party line is on this, but I'm afraid there is one.
  2. Happened to me on a bad hop once. Coach told me to hold my thigh and fake a limp when I got up.
  3. That's a good point about Presley, but if you're using Gomez as a comp for Hicks, there's one thing to be concerned about. Gomez would go through stretches where he would practically run into the stands to swing at a pitch outside the zone, but even so he never struggled anywhere near the way Hicks has with making solid contact. His ground ball rate was roughly 15% lower than Hicks' so far. Hicks is already one of the most patient and passive hitters in MLB. Gomez was one of the most aggressive. If it's a choice between betting on the hacker learning patience in their latter 20's or the passive guy learning to drive the ball, my money is on the hacker more often than not. Also, it remains to be seen whether Hicks can sustain his excellent walk rate with the switch to RHB, and with a below-average line drive rate and ISO of just .063. That being said, with the switch to not switching sides, I'm more optimistic about Hicks now than at any point since the end of his excellent 2012 AA campaign.
  4. Whatever your opinion of how the Twins have publicly treated Hicks, there's zero comparison between Hicks struggling defensively at the position he played all through the minors at a level that had some talking Gold Glove, and infielders having to play totally out of position. My guess is that most people object to Willingham and Correia being on the roster because there are prospects who they are potentially blocking. And it would surprise me if anyone was arguing that either Mastro or Presley, or even a Preslianni platoon, would be a huge upgrade over Hicks. The argument in their favor that I'm seeing most, and subscribe to, is that they would have made vastly better reserves than Bartlett and an infinitely better backup plan in the event of a Hicks demotion or lingering injury. And since Hicks is re-learning how to do the hardest thing in baseball in a way he has not done so since little league, time in AAA seems very appropriate to me. That was my hope for him not just before the switch to RHB, but before both the 2013 and 2014 seasons began.
  5. Not much of a fan of Kubel using up a roster spot, 25 or 40. That being said, Gardenhire going with the new kid over the .306 obp of Kubel vs LHP is not very surprising or outrageous. If there were an outrage in this game, my vote would go to the continued, indefensible banishment of Pinto to the bench.
  6. Didn't care much about missing another blowout until seeing that this was Hicks' first game batting right only. He deserves a ton of credit for having the courage to experiment with that in the majors, and a holiday home game to boot. Only one game, but his going 2 for 4 in his righty-only debut is much more news-worthy than another Correia clunker. Both of those things may end up improving the club in the long run.
  7. Honestly wasn't sure the thread title was serious until reading the first few posts. So he got at least one hit batting right-handed against a pretty good righty? What a great start for him, and tip o' the Twins cap to him for having the courage to give it a shot. That seems like it could be much more of an influence on the future of the Twins than a loss to a perennial contender with the worst starter in the Twins' rotation on the mound.
  8. Ah. So that's more than enough Gardy for me.
  9. Road home wins much harder to come by for the twins this year. No Pinto again, no report of injury. That's enough Gardenhire for me.
  10. Second the motion. Well done.
  11. Day after night as well, as is his custom. And were it not for Parmelee in right, it would look to me like Gardenhire going all in on righties vs. lefty, which is not his usual m.o.
  12. Lefties OBPing .253 against Mad Bum for his career and Mauersie went 1-4, so it was just a case of bad luck and accurate math.
  13. At least with Kubel you could make the case that he's been pretty useless against tough lefties in his career, but like you said, they miss his glove out there. It's funny, typing that last phrase made me feel as if I had crossed some sort of invisible yet significant barrier...
  14. A movie that has the distinction of being very strange even by Coen brothers standards...
  15. Ground balls... http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110606042636/es.futurama/images/c/c6/Futurama_fry_looking_squint2.jpg ...or rallies?
  16. Your wish... http://www.noplacelikeom.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/tumblr_lotssiC4GJ1qkzq2g1.jpg ...is granted.
  17. In a blowout like this, Gardy was right to put player relations ahead of desired outcome by paying Herrmann the courtesy of letting him pinch hit for Swarzy.
  18. At least Swarzy is showig some signs of righting the ship...
  19. Or to the shortstop, for that matter.
  20. Of the current lineup, only Dozier and probably Zukes field their current positions better than Sandoval, who makes Mo Vaughn look like a sleek, gloved gazelle.
  21. Mauer one K away from the expensive hat.
  22. Depends on how long it takes Mad Bum to reach his pitch count limit...
  23. Other than their pitching, fielding, and hitting, they've been mostly ok.
  24. Thanks for the vote of confidence, but my angry face is nowhere near as fearsome as Ronald's... http://media.nj.com/yankees_main/photo/8949073-large.jpg
  25. Or he could get lucky and have a nice August and September followed by an offseason extension...
