This is a team that had a neutral run differential before the 8 run drubbing today. It has one good starter and two good starts from a very nice prospect. It has two position players who are more than one win above replacement, one of whom is a journeyman outfielder who can barely play the outfield. In other words, the Twins are ALMOST EXACTLY what you would expect that a young 100-loss team which stood pat in the off season should be. They're better, but they're still not good. And giving up a prospect or two for 30 innings of middle relief isn't going to change that. It might make a 78 win team (Fangraphs' projection prior to the loss today) into an 80 win team. I guess my question would be 'Why would you want to?'. In any case, this is a franchise that, by its own admission, went heavy on college relievers in the draft. As disappointing as the yield has been compared to the investment, a rebuilding franchise needs to promote prospects, not trade them for meaningless wins.
