    Good choice. He was in the majors before I was born and still in the league when I finished school. The days of the 300+ inning, 15 CG, 300 K titans like Carlton and Ryan are almost impossible to fathom in the context of today's starters. 32 starts and 200 innings is a yeoman effort in the 21st century. Carlton had 30 complete games out of 41 starts during his extraterrestrial, 346 inning 1972 season. The 1.97 ERA wasn't too shabby either.

    So that's... fairly dramatic contrast. I've never been a big believer in the 'personal catcher' thing, but then again, I was never a pitcher. And if I were Ervin, I'd either want Castro as my catcher or a 1 hour documentary film explaining why not, co-produced by Spielberg and Lucas.
