  1. Kintzler is a fine, 4-ish xFIP reliever and a decent placeholder in the closer role, but it's beyond eye-rolling when Gladden spontaneously breaks into a two minute 'Brandon Kintzler, All Star candidate' informercial, and it's just plain embarrassing to compare him to Craig Kimbrel.
  2. It's certainly possible that he's hitting the ball harder, and I don't mean that his numbers are entirely the result of good fortune. It's just that when a player of his age and history suddenly starts getting two hits on every five balls in play, there's cause for curiosity about how much is real improvement and how much is mirage. I'm hoping the Twins focus on building a competitive team rather than on fielding a lineup every day that's optimized for the wildcard hunt. I'm hoping Granite can with the former more than the latter. It's just unfortunate that he's not a more natural fit with what the Twins have on their roster at the moment.
  3. Good writeup and thorough analysis of how the Twins could move pieces around to utilize Granite. But if you subtract the 100 points he's exceeding his career babip by, Granite is a .270/.320/.410 AAA lefty bat whose real assets are his speed and defense. Not sure that's the boost that an outfield which already features two lefties, speed, and defense really needs.
  4. Corgis warming up for Not so Great Scott.... http://i.imgur.com/57HJL8u.gif Edit: Stand down for now, Team Corgi. Your time will come.
  5. And if they say it after noon, you might need to turn their subtitle setting to 'On' in order to understand them.
  6. I missed all but the last few pitches of Mejia's apparently excellent start. You're welcome, Adalberto.
  7. In at least two places, if you're not the sort to make a fuss over p.m. or a.m.
  8. Jack Morris reminds us that tomorrow night the Twins bullpen will be depending on a deep, effective start from... Adalberto Mejia. I'm going to go conk myself on the head with a croquet mallet. G'night!
  9. Well, at least the fund managers, neurosurgeons, and capital murder defense attorneys who can afford seats behind home plate all had the good sense to go home instead of staying til quarter to one to watch the Twins self-destruct.
  10. "A beautiful marriage!" ? http://www.media1.hw-static.com/media/2017/01/2017-01-25-cuba-gooding-jr-jerry-maguire-tristar-pictures-1024x683.jpg
  11. "Asked for further comment on the incident after several pints of Guinness at his favorite pub, Mr.Smith merely smiled and continued to hum the catchy refrain hook from the '90s pop hit "Tubthumping" by Chumba Wumba.
  12. Talking Hair going waaaaaay out on a limb in the studio check-in between innings with his admission that this 'might not be the cleanest game the Twins have played this season'.
  13. Are there really Red Sox fans still awake and fired up enough to actually shout "Wooow!", or is the stadium audio crew just randomly playing the Wooow! sample from the start of "Should I stay or should I go"/ "The Globe"?
  14. Abad-Boyer... what you gonna do when they come for you?
  15. Holy crap. Thanks for posting that. After I watched it I looked for it on infowars and it's posted there under the headline "Cyborgs among us!".
  16. You're fine. And don't worry about that faint glow on the horizon...
  17. Took that for IBS for a few days, but had to stop when it made my eyelashes fall out.
  18. 'Hildenberger' versus 'Benintendi' = combined Scrabble score of 32.
  19. At the rate the Twins are going tonight your pub might have a change of ownership before this one is over.
  20. I was going to give that a Like but didn't want to be accused of violating anyone's safe space. After all, this is the kind of game people depend on for a lift when they're feeling emotionally disadvantaged. Edit: What the hell, my profile is anonymous and my Like quota resets at midnight...
  21. This would be a magnificent time for Dick to mention once again that blowout losses like this one have made the Twins' poor run differential irrelevant this year. Because frequent poor starts and a dreadful bullpen don't indicate a glaring weakness, I guess.
  22. At the very least I guess you have to admire the very progressive way in which they've more evenly distributed the futility tonight compared to other losses.
  23. Now Escobar boots one. Is there such a thing as an error 'cycle' for defenses? Usually it takes extra innings or a West Coast road game for me to be this out of gas for the end of a Twins game, but with the help of some rain the Twins have managed the improbable feat of pretty much losing me in just the 6th inning of an East Coast game.
  24. Blaine Boyer... the middle relief equivalent of the woman you talk to for five minutes at your 25th high school class reunion before you remember that you went on a date with her your junior year.
  25. The nice thing about remembering the thrashings the Twins received from the Yankees in the Gardy era is that they made this effort against the Red Sox look like a nail-biter.
