  1. In order to keep payroll reasonable (in the eyes of the Pohlads) I would think relief help would be added by trade. No prospects would be required for Darvish and Ohtani, so we could spare a couple to help the 'pen, so we aren't paying full retail FA prices
  2. Just for the sake of argument, let's say Darvish and Ohtani sign here on the same day... That passes Parise/Suter, right? I would argue, other than actual championships, it's the biggest moment in MN Sports history.
  3. MSP has a direct flight to Tokyo. So that's something!
  4. Hopefully MN can offer the best book report of all 30 teams
  5. 130s would be incredibly promising.
  6. I could have sworn there was a limit to the amount of FA money you could trade for (or trade away)
  7. Anyone know what kind of dollars we are talking about annually? I assume it's in the single-digit millions.
  8. I wouldn't think much of the rest of the Treasure Island Radio Network would change.
  9. Thank heavens... that 96.3 signal was atrocious.
  10. Yeah, 6/150 seems like the top end of the range to me. 7/210 is Boras dreamland
  11. Do we expect him to be in 4 years?
  12. What I found he has progressively worse years for the next 3. Not bad years, just progressively worse... do you think he will turn down the 6/218 left on his contract? So.... Option a) he continues to play great and opts out after 3 years. Most any team would be happy with that Option he does what I described above and you have $36M per year locked into a declining DH Option A might be more likely but option B scares of about 90% of MLB franchises.
  13. I'd let the Yankees have him for $1M
  14. Yeah... and I would think that there would be long-term ramifications for something like that. Doesn't seem like a move a brand new front office would make
  15. To answer a question from earlier.... St Louis voided a $3.1M signing bonus a few years back, also for vision issues. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/more-on-cardinals-voiding-mateo-deal/#dhg8mDgvL5ojvO74.97
  16. Here's what I don't understand.... If the Twins have been widely reported to have around $3M that could be used to sign Otani, and we all know the Twins started with $5.25M and added $500k, as well as the widely reported $3M signing bonus to Marte, how did nobody do the math and ask how $3M bonus money left was possible?
  17. Can we pay him extra to perform assistant pitching coach duties? Can his dad be the translator for $10M per season?
  18. Hold on hold on hold on..... JD Martinez isn't getting 8/200
  19. AL seems like the obvious choice if Otani wants to do both.
  20. If you're the Yankees why would you trade a prospect or player to get more international money? Otani has shown that the money isn't important. If he wants to go to NY then 3.5M vs 4.0M is meaningless.
  21. The other two are The Yankees and, I believe, The Rangers.
  22. My camp is simple... trade for Cole using Kepler as one of the main pieces. Then sign JD Martinez to fill the OF hole we just created. That puts the Twins over what their likely budget is, but not really by THAT much, and solves our Ace Problem and our Middle-of-the-order-RH- Bat Problem
  23. Right. Of course he still would have had a say, but with FAR less leverage. Also it would've likely taken less from the Twins, in terms of prospects, since the Tigers also would've lost leverage. I don't know when Verlander was sent through waivers. It was likely long before we would've had any interest because of our terrific August, but, if the Twins wanted him, there was a scenario that would have given us a far greater opportunity.
  24. At this point I don't feel like this thread is even about Verlander and the specific hurdles of his deal. He just happens to be this year's example. People that are still on the "trade for Verlander" bandwagon likely just don't want the Twins FO to miss out/whiff/not try on an opportunity like this in the future. Ps. If the Twins really wanted him, they could've just claimed him on waivers, then Verlander wouldn't have had any say about what level of "contender" he wanted to go to.
  25. Maybe this is just me not knowing, but I suspect the Parker types (analyze data/film for tendencies) get hired more often than the Gleeman types (very knowledgeable but more of a accumulator/decipherer of other people's opinions)
