    He was part of an extremely durable 50/50 time share for three years before 2026. The last two years he played in about 75% of the games. He was catching 2/3 of the games this year, thriving, and then he broke his wrist. Injuries happen. But he’s been very durable.

    Volpe wouldn’t be the first guy to have a bit of a renaissance after leaving NY, but it’s a no for me. If I’m the Twins FO I’m looking to solve problems and I just don’t see him as solving anything for us.

    My hot take is that I hope Jeffers accepts a QO. Is 24M more than I’d like to pay him? Sure. But he can be an integral part of a good team and if I can pencil him in for 2/3 of the games for us in 2027, I feel like that position group is solved and I can look at filling other holes. We’ve got enough cheap guys at other positions that we can handle a little overpay for one year at catcher. Side benefit is that it’s a perfect opportunity to test out Tom Pohlads go big or go home mantra.

    I feel like Sands has had a couple times where he seemed on the brink of coming back only to have a set back. Him not being on the team yet is probably a combination of: a) wanting to be sure he’s past the setbacks b) letting him pitch in St Paul until we return from this road trip.

    What happens to the negative WPA generated by putting the Manfred Man on 2nd base? The elegance of WPA is that at the end of the game, everyone’s WPA adds up to 1.00, but that’s not the case for extra innings games.

    There was a similar discussion yesterday and I almost started a thread about it, but one more thing to consider… With one of the new CBA discussion points being talked about being a shorter time in arbitration (5 years instead of what usually ends of being 7), might there actually be an advantage to starting their service clock this year and potentially getting them grandfathered in to the new system.

    Normally I'd be all for walking the first guy to create a force out, but that raises the possibility of facing Ramirez, so that's scary.

    Well we either win in extras or get walked-off by Cleveland History is pointing us in a direction I don't care for.

    I saw a top 100 list yesterday (not one of the big familiar websites) that had Jhomnardo Reyes in the top 100. Obviously that's not consensus, but I've got more reason to pay attention to FCL box scores now. Based on his numbers, I'd guess he gets bumped up to Low A once the FCL season ends.

    The top 10 of that draft was pretty rough. Hunter Greene went 2nd and has looked good for a couple years, but just made his 2026 debut a couple weeks ago after being out with elbow issues. Mackenzie Gore went 3rd and has been basically a #4 starter since he got to the majors. Other than that... lots of whiffs

    Unless you're the 2026 Cleveland Guardians and you've only used 5 SP all year, which is truly insane.

    5% overage is allowed, but there is a 75% tax on all of those dollars spent, So, the Twins could've spent around $850k above their pool money on draft picks, but it would have cost them and additional $640k to do so. Going beyond the 5% puts you into draft pick penalties which a) is crazy, and b) no team has ever done.

    Really big game today. Turning this into a 3-4 road trip going through Chicago and Cleveland would be huge. It claws back a lot of that All-Star break momentum we had lost as of 24 hours ago. And with a couple lower tier teams coming to Target field, it give us a real chance to get all of those good vibes back over the next week.

    Not to belabor the frustration of not maxing out the bonus pool all the way to where the penalties switch from financial to draft penalties, but it's just so short sighted. You've got a mechanism that gives you a long term ROI of 2.5x (I'm making up numbers here) and every year you're told how much you can spend and get that 2.5x return. Then they say... "well, we'll let you spend a bit more, but you can only get a 1.75x long term return on that investment" and the Twins are always just.... "nah, we're good"
