  1. "unfortunately it all came crashing down with a major-league worst 59-103 record, which was the worst in Minnesota Twins history (based on W-L%)." By what metric are they suggesting it might NOT have been the worst in Twins' History?
  2. We drafted George Springer that year!
  3. Because when you are on the coast, every player is critical, borderline unreplacable, and can only be had for a king's random. Here is the middle... 6 WAR players apparently grow on trees and would be honored to me moved to a "better situation"
  4. And the year before: 1. Robinson Cano – Seattle Mariners 2. Dustin Pedroia – Boston Red Sox 3. Ben Zobrist – Oakland Athletics 4. Neil Walker – Pittsburgh Pirates 5. Ian Kinsler – Detroit Tigers 6. Jose Altuve – Houston Astros 7. Howie Kendrick – Los Angeles Dodgers 8. Chase Utley – Philadelphia Phillies 9. Brian Dozier – Minnesota Twins 10. Scooter Gennett – MIlwaukee Brewers
  5. Last year's list: 1. Jose Altuve 2. Robinson Cano 3. Joe Panik 4. Ian Kinsler 5. Josh Harrison 6. Ben Zobrist 7. Neil Walker 8. Dustin Pedroia 9. Dee Gordon 10. Logan Forsythe
  6. As Common would say..... BOX!
  7. Twins could pull some shady S--t with Florida if they wanted.... Twins sign Bautista, forfeiting their 2nd round pick. Very shortly into the season, the Twins trade Bautista to Miami for their competitive balance pick (the pick right before the pick we forfeited) and a lottery ticket prospect. Twins do this for the bonus prospect Miami does it to give up a comp pick instead of their first round pick. Toronto doesn't care because their comp pick for Bautista still falls at the end of the 1st round. Bautista is happy because he gets to play in Miami Everybody is happy! (except for the rest of the league)
  8. My super-unscientific look at past 2nd rounds yielded 2-4 players annually, that I had heard of. 10% hit rate.
  9. Bautista is only 6 behind Mauer for career Target Field HR
  10. I'm all for it, just for the "Team Joey" shirts that I'll license to Parker (for free)
  11. So, we're passing on the draft this year then?
  12. Also, we would lose that entire amount of draft pool money. This is what got the Astros into trouble a couple years back. They had already gone overslot on some later picks, but when the 1st round pick Appel (right?) didn't sign, they lost all that money and could get the overslot guys signed (or did they have to pull back an offer?) Details are fuzzy but the point still stands.
  13. I say starting pitchers and here's how I justify it.... Back when Joey Slaps was winning batting titles and playing catcher, he was a perennial high fantasy baseball draft pick. His offensive numbers weren't as good as some 1B out there, but getting what Joe provided from the Catcher spot had huge value. The value was in the scarcity of good options. Same thing with starting pitching in MLB. 1.0 WAR 2B are a dime a dozen, but not so with SP. If instead of looking at WAR you look at WAR/game. it becomes obvious why quality SP are more valuable than most position players.
  14. I like your version better
  15. Falvey: Jack, we're really excited to keep you on board and for all the progress you've made within the analytics system...... BUT....... Never post on that Twins Daily site again. Jack: You bet, boss [deletes account]
  16. This thread just cleared 100,000 views!
  17. Of course, when I commented I didn't know you were friends. It was the quotes around "source" that made wonder what was up.
  18. Jesus, people... drop it. Sometimes sources are right and sometimes they aren't. Bringing it up in the original article seemed unnecessary.
  19. Breaking news.... we just went 5 minutes without a post in this thread,
  20. I wouldn't define "by the time it is over" as when the deal is announced or confirmed It should be when the thread finally falls off the front page. I'm going with 891 posts and 93000 views
  21. Derek F: Hey Jim, is there a car service that we typically use? I'm going to have my assistant set that up for Thad and I while we're in DC. Jim P: I remember my dad telling me about when he was a boy. He worked in the mills along the river but his family lived in South Minneapolis. Every day after school he would take the street trolley to and from work. It cost him 5 cents each way and his wages at the mill were only 15 cents. It wasn't much, but after 3 years of saving he finally was able...... Derek F: We'll just get an Uber.
  22. They're negotiating to have Enterprise pick them up, on the Dodgers' dime.
  23. Not good enough. Do you think it's possible that this friend could plant a bug in Falvey's office. That would be great! Thanks in advance
  24. I remember Turner, 6 months before the draft, was considered a cant miss, awesome talent, projected to go in the top couple picks. Given his position, perceived closeness to the majors, and his quality, I honed in on him as who I wanted. But it didn't look like he would drop to us. Then in the spring, he started to slip, and it was for what seemed like not great reasons. I'm not surprised he's ended up being a very good player and I still wish we would have stuck with the 6-months-out projection of him.
  25. That makes me want to trade Vargas less than ever
