  1. A little surprised that Twins fans were booing an opposing player for lack of hustle. Brutal.
  2. Looks like we can scratch him off of our list of potential free agent signings next year. Coming off that earlier injury, this substance likely enhanced his recovery. I can understand his temptation to take this product - it could've translated into a big deal next season. Now? Not so much. A calculated risk. I see a lot of condemnation but if you had a shot to earn tens of millions for taking a substance to speed up recovery, you might think long and hard about it.
  3. I just got 3-1 odds on a hangnail keeping him out for more than 5 days.
  4. I visualize Arraez as a #2 hitter able to move the leadoff guy along and setting the table for 3-5. I also project Buxton as leadoff despite his comfort at 9. I don't so Arraez as a prototypical leadoff merely because he isn't the most fleet at foot. Ideally, I'd like someone (like Buxton) to stretch out from 1st to 3rd on a single to right.
  5. Wow, with one out you gamble when you've sent four baserunners on that laboring closer? Sac fly wins it. One out! As a 3rd base coach, you need to know your player's capabilities and the situation. To see a guy thrown out by a mile in that scenario was embarrassing. And that was basically a two game swing since it was head-to-head. We win, we go up 2. Lose and we're tied. A big moment. It takes a lot to essentially gain two games on Cleveland at this point. That was a golden opportunity.
  6. @What's his OPS, that wasn't my point as this was in reference to someone claiming he could only play one position therefore his value diminished. I'm not calling for Schoop to replace Sano at the moment but he's certainly a valuable backup at either 2B or 3B.
  7. A lot of teams walked away empty-handed. The asking prices were reportedly way too high in many cases. These so-called "sellers" will now risk many of these tradable players to walk away with no prospects gained. Something happened recently where teams have adopted this insistence of an "arm & a leg" return and won't bargain or deal for some compromise in any form. It's weird. If I'm the owner and my team allowed some of these trade-worthy players that weren't going to be extended to walk away without any prospects, I'm firing my GM ASAP without any severance pay just to send a message.
  8. I still wonder if Greinke is an option for this team. He doesn't like big markets so much.
  9. You think we'll get two more relievers?
  10. Does anyone know about Diaz? The Vegas station this morning claimed he should be the Twins top target.
  11. They can absolutely be caught by Cleveland. Now a 2-game lead and without Kluber! That 96% number is ridiculous. This was a 12 game lead before the break and we have seen our starters laboring a bit. Odorizzi is fading and the bullpen is getting in way too many innings. They're gasping and sputtering before the dog days of August while the Indians are in cruise control. My money's on the Indians who have been baseballs best team in the 2nd half the past 4 seasons under Francona. The trending data is not in our favor. All that said, I do like the spirit of the team and they will be in every game with that batting lineup but I see a wild-card spot for the Twins.
  12. They have some bats, no doubt. Blankenhorn has been raking it as well. I'm wondering if they could move him up this season at 3B. I'm not a Sano fan.
  13. Couldn't we contend for years to come? I don't agree that this can be a rare occasion. There's a solid, young nucleus signed with control for several years down the road for most. I agree that 2 reliable relievers are needed but obviously moving forward, the same will hold true for starters next season. I don't see them as a contender this year in spite of the record and success to this point.
  14. I don't consider that GM statement as enough fodder that Minor will be dealt. That's the kind of guy you keep if you're suddenly contending ahead of schedule. They're not sellers as they are in playoff contention. I'd love to have him but I don't see him being available.
  15. While the Twins are trying their mightiest, I can't see this team advancing to the WS with the Yankees and Astros having both starting and bullpen advantages in a series. Our bullpen can't hold up and we'll continue to lose numerous late-inning leads which demoralize a team both in the long haul in a divisional battle with Cleveland and in a pressure-packed playoff series. I'm tempering my expectations and instead looking at a long-term sustainment approach and hoping that not too many attempts at a quick fix for a WS run are in the plans for this season. Keep the assets we have as trades can take place after the season as well. We may get more for our assets in the offseason as teams hoping to deal their players expect too much as we approach the deadline. Don't give the Mets two arms and a leg for a guy who may not return to his promised form. Ditto for Bumgarner who has logged a ton of miles and is a rental. He won't be the difference-maker this year with this bullpen. We need more than one upgrade to the bullpen anyway. Stay the course to build a team worthy of long-term success like Houston and the Cubs built. Don't panic and stray from the patient approach that got you here quicker than expected. Can we go after a player? Sure. But don't mortgage the farm simply to get one crack at it all when continuing the path can lead to many years of serious contending. This is a good year for getting a taste of contending which is new for most on this roster. Learning to improve their craft through manufacturing runs when needed and hanging in longer on pitch counts to reach bullpens sooner are all part of learning to contend.
  16. That's not enough! Come on now. If that happened, I'd do cartwheels.
  17. Hmm, it seems that many are willing to throw in Graterol in trade scenarios. I'm not included.
  18. Has a duo pitcher trade ever happened? Just asking. I've never seen one but then again, I'm not as locked in on MLB as many here. BTW, why does Stroman wear pants that overlap his cleats? If he had to run, wouldn't he trip up? Looks like he's wearing pajamas.
  19. Yeah, no regrets on the Buxton play. I appreciate the aggressiveness. And as you eluded to, it took a super-human perfect throw to get him. 8-9 times out of 10, a wild throw or late throw on that play. Use his wheels to create opportunities. This team needs to find ways to score in tight situations. Bunting included. Manufacturing runs is a good way to pull out these extra inning affairs. A lot of zeroes in these games.
  20. A funny stat that someone caught after roughly 8-10 weeks of minor league ball was that the Wells twins had identical ERA's. That was incredible. His brother Alex plays AA (Bowie) for the Orioles affiliate and doing very well. You know, it would've made sense for the Twins to have drafted/acquired both Wells brothers - could've been a face of the franchise. Real twins for the Twins! Why couldn't that happen?
  21. Agreed. I'm doubtful that Thor is that guy at least this season. Could he get over the recent injuries and be dominant again? Don't know. But if the objective is getting a TOR starter or close to it, he isn't it now. He's middling as a 3rd-4th starter with an ERA over 4 in the NL. Just not getting it done. No better Scandihoovian type to wear a Twins jersey - looks like a Viking but I'm passing.
  22. To those who keep bringing up Scherzer, it ain't happening. He's so beloved in Washington and they'd be done without him. They took a bit of a PR hit by letting Harper go. This would be crushing. Besides, they aren't rebuilding. They are in win now mode and would be 10-15 games above .500 if they didn't have the worst bullpen in baseball. They have a good team and are just a piece or two away from taking the next step. As for Syndegaard, it's a precarious trade. I lean toward staying away. We have the trade capital and it wouldn't hurt too much with how things have developed but I just don't see the likelihood that he's a sure thing down the road. I could live with such a trade but feel wary about it. Has anyone mentioned Andrew Cashner here? He's been really good and had a decent few years in Houston as well. Wouldn't be exorbitant in cost and is pitching better than both Syndegaard and Bumgarner this year.
  23. I understand a lot of time and effort went into that compilation of prospects as I appreciate using this as a reference but it's not a bible. Some of us are (and can) question the validity of a paper construct much like the so-called "book" in regards to situational bunting being limited to an unwritten rule according to those who "expertly" pontificate the topic based on some irrelevant numbers. I agree that open discussion without simply claiming someone is right or wrong is the best path forward. If you don't agree, state why. Still don't agree? Move on.
  24. Yeah, such a game has future ramifications on the bullpen and a team can go into a tailspin. I don't know what the heck happened to Houston recently but I wonder if they met a similar setback. 162 game seasons see a lot of events. The Twins themselves may have averted a long losing streak with some of the late-game heroics of recent weeks.
