  1. And this team had some REALLY good infield defense, outfield.... not so much
  2. The 09 twins are still my favorite team ever. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Cuddy running that fast in real time.
  3. It was very strange to me when I learned Bert was the workhorse of a champion team BEFORE he came back to the Twins.
  4. I’m just starting to read Moneyball currently, and it’s really good so far!
  5. With the lack of sports, There’s a couple of video creators that may interest you guys: Jon Bois (SB Nation): has videos on a variety of sports related subjects, and has a 3 HOUR documentary about the Seattle Mariners coming out later this month. His Lonnie Smith and Koo Dae Sung videos are also great. Foolish Baseball: If you like analytics, he’s your guy. He just posted a video about how Earl Weaver’s Orioles were eerily similar to Billy Beane’s Athletics teams of today.
  6. Dobnak and Astudillo are way underrated. But yeah, Kepler is the baseball crush of every baseball fan of the opposite gender that I know.
  7. I’ve watched both series before, but the ‘91 series is more of a priority. So many incredible moments! And I think this period of time is going to change a lot of jobs/colleges for good (more working online/from home).
  8. In Minnesota they could play baseball at US Bank theoretically if the season went that late. That would be an interesting setting.
  9. Just recently, I read John Bonnes’ great article on how this site is an amazing community, and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve realized that the game of baseball is a nice way to get away from the problems you face at work, school, and home. Last year, I got more heavily involved with the Game Threads of this site, and was even due to do one for a playoff game! Alas, that didn’t happen. In the past few months, the gravity of the coronavirus situation has intensified, leading to, at the very least, the postponement of baseball, along with many other events. I wanted to start a “game thread” to just see how everybody’s doing. As one of the younger members of this site, I am currently on forced extended spring break from college. Faculty is preparing to switch to online classes, but who knows what will happen given the volatility of this virus. Doing homework and watching lectures for engineering classes without direct contact to teachers would definitely be interesting! On the positive side, I get to see my family everyday, and get to work alongside my father and grandfather, which is amazing. With the sudden increase in free time, I think I’m going to start exercising more often, specifically running! I’m still going to be watching baseball, but will be watching some of the classic Twins games, including: Game 163 against the Tigers Jason Kubel cycle game vs. the Angels Miguel Sano grand slam against the Indians The entirety of the 1991 World Series. In conclusion, I just want to hear how everybody’s doing! We may be in some relative isolation for a bit, so anything goes below! Faux games, life updates, stories, anything. Everybody, stay safe, and keep your stick on the ice!
  10. I think the worry here is that this virus mutates into something worse. And it is affecting seniors way worse than the flu.I personally wouldn’t be worried if I got it, but J definitely see why there’s caution.
  11. I don’t think we will see the start of the season.....
  12. The NBA season is suspended indefinitely because a player tested positive for it. This baseball season, at the very least, will be shortened. I’m sad. Prayers to everybody who has it, and for our world as a whole.
  13. I think this cut was just for the 40 man guys for service time and injury reasons, right? I do want to see what Kirilloff and Larnach can do in triple-A to start off the year to see what they can do against experienced pitchers. Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Cave, and Gonzalez in the majors and Kirilloff, Larnach, Rooker and Wade Jr. in Rochester. Absolutely stacked position.
  14. Most of these comments are absolutely ridiculous. We knew Buxton would potentially miss the start of the year in September. Sano had his breakout season last year. 34 home runs with a .923 OPS is nothing to sneeze at. And that was with a very slow start.
  15. Javier Baez puts up similar numbers to Eddie Rosario, but is much more valuable because of his elite defense at short. If Eddie can hit .290/.350/.500 with 35-40 Bombas, while staying relatively healthy playing left field, he will be a top 10 player in the American League and get paid extremely well in the free agent market in a couple years. I don’t think those numbers are unattainable
  16. I honestly think Jake Cave is the answer for this year.... he would be a slightly below average center fielder, but Kepler and a healthy Rosario can hold the corners..... Celestino should only be a defensive replacement at this point in time if he makes the majors this year...
  17. Verlander and Grienke are future hall of famers. I could see Grienke fall of a cliff this year though. That velocity isn’t going any higher....... I would personally take the Astros rotation as is, but an injury would really hurt them
  18. Reese McGuire jacked one to right off of Dobnak. (I apologize guys, I really do....)
  19. Does MLB and its TV affiliates (mostly Fox Sports channels) realize how idiotic they are being by not being available to be watched on major providers? YouTube TV just cancelled FSN on their platform, Dish Network has not had that channel for nearly a year now, and many other services do not play the baseball games on the platform anymore. I personally don’t do it, but it’s pretty easy to find these games online illegally. Shouldn’t MLB want people to be able to watch the games? MLB also blacks out games for people within a specific area around a team under their own subscription, meaning Iowa and Las Vegas can’t watch several teams, and all of Canada can’t watch the Blue Jays unless they have that specific cable channel. Even when games are on national channels, it seems like the Yankees/Red Sox/Cubs get the majority of games, with elite small market teams like the Rays, Twins, and Athletics barely get mentioned by the east coast.
  20. Now Giancarlo Stanton is out with a grade 1 calf strain past Opening Day..... the injuries continue for the Yankees.
  21. The skills competition in that format would not be approved by the Player’s Association. Diving and trying to rob homeruns just screams injury risk.
  22. I thought at the time that the Sevy/Hicks extensions were much less risky and overall better than the Kepler/Polanco deals. Boy was I wrong.
  23. Paxton already has question marks about his health, German has had one OK year, and Tanaka has been so off/on during his career (including last year). The Twins have more starting pitching depth than the Yankees in a (still) much weaker division. I just could still see the Twins winning the division in that scenario, and am almost certain the Yankees wouldn’t (Rays and Red Sox will still be very good).
  24. The Twins have set themselves up to where 1 injury doesn’t drastically hurt them... If the Yankees lose Gerrit Cole on the other hand.....
  25. Luis Severino of the Yankees needs Tommy John Surgery. The gap between the Twins and the Yankees continues to shorten.
