  1. I agree that we don't need haircuts, but Glunn's hairdresser does need money. That's where it gets tricky. Some of the "nice-to-haves" still provide livelihood for people. It's one of the reasons that I am in a personal gray area about the stimulus package. What I think should be is that it should be skewed more to help those who provide those "nice-to-haves", then we can go without them longer without those providers being affected? What is? Well, they just did it by 2017-2019 income. I know they didn't have time, but that was hasty. However, and too my earlier Blow quote, this isn't necessarily a financial emergency for everyone right now, but most of us will have financial emergencies at other times in our lives. I know I have in the past. That doesn't mean we will get government stimulus when those emergencies occur. It's just weird to get money that you know you got because people are dying.
  2. I didn't phrase that very well. I was saying Trump would accuse Walz of being a mutineer if he pushes Mayo to go Minnesota first. As a Minnesotan, of course, I would want that for our state. But Mr. Total Authority may have other ideas.
  3. Yes, but I don't like this part: "And then there is this: Could the federal government order Mayo and others to offer their testing capacity to patients elsewhere across the country?" Walz will be Trump's next "mutineer". (I was told we are allowed to be political in this thread by a mod)
  4. Well, almost $4K of blood money just showed up in my bank account. Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on. - Fred Jung
  5. Agreed. Sick people -> Medical Workers, Law Enforcement, Food Producers. I'm sure I left something out. Let's get daily testing and home support to those people first. Also, baseball is always an escape for me. I'm hopeful when it does come back that announcers are instructed to keep coronavirus commentary to an absolute minimum. That's a personal opinion though.
  6. Hmmm ... Contact tracing looks like a good reason to "forget" your phone a lot.
  7. I think Walz should also include liquor store employees as emergency personnel. Grocery store employees were a no-brainer, but we don't need our hospitals dealing with a bunch of safe detox situations as well.
  8. WBC qualifiers getting suspended as well. If that tournament ever gets played, I hope the US gets bracketed with and kicks the living bejesus out of China.
  9. Great, those seven games against Seattle will come back to bite.
  10. It would be par for the course as far as being a Minnesota sports fan. Remember, we can't have nice things. With that said, it will just mean more fishing time for this guy. Easy to keep a one meter distance from other participants doing that.
  11. And so it begins ..... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/03/coronavirus-response-will-require-mlb-schedule-changes.html
  12. Really enjoy these accounts. Thank you!!
  13. Nick, this series has been what I've looked forward to reading this spring, so thank you. However, as I peruse the OPS+ data of the '87 Twins, I know there are two plays that I will never forget from the 2019 season. Eddie's pinch-hit 3-run blast off Petit at home against Oakland and his throw of the year to nail Devers at the plate in Boston. From a data stand-point, it's hard to argue that Rosario may need to look over his shoulder this year, but I just think he has the intangible "It-factor". I think a team needs a guy or two with that to be truely complete.
  14. Not good, Poppen. You must not be aware of the Philly/Santa Claus story.
  15. Wheeler strikes out Astudillo and Arraez in the same inning. I know it's ST, but I'm guessing there will be a shortlist of pitchers who actually end up doing that. inb4 "We should have gone harder after Wheeler"
  16. Good point of view from another angle. I don't see the Yankees moving Torres. It would be ironic for the Indians to give up Lindor with Urshela being the big piece coming back. Of course, the Yankees may not be able to move either, if they can't keep the rest of the team healthy.
  17. First, Lindor has ended extension talks with Cleveland. I would imagine this sets him up for a July move (hopefully not to the Yankees). Second, the Yankees are all the way down to 22 with their farm system. Hopefully, that means not enough bullets to acquire someone like Lindor at the deadline. On the flip-side, the Twins are ranked 7th and team with the Rays (1), Dodgers (3) and Braves (8) as teams who are winning and have top 10 farm systems.
  18. You sound like my boss defending a POS co-worker of mine. "At least she comes to work with a smile!" ... And all of my response had everything to do with my point. If you can't see that, then you're more interested in defending reputation and virtue than you are holding people accountable for distributing poorly-formulated information that does nothing but cause panic to following readers. Ms Specht likely gained her social media following due to her expertise in plant-based food alternatives. Now she's pulling a modified bait-and-switch and presenting herself as an authority on epidemics and viruses. The only thing she has accomplished is giving people like Craig Arko increased levels of anxiety. I'm not sure why you would want to defend her.
  19. Even more ignorant than someone who spends her time trying to reinvent tofu deeming herself an authority and claiming that there won't be a hospital bed available in the US by May 8.
  20. I had to read that twice, too. I think he meant "close to being a big leaguer" vs. "already having what it takes to pitch at the big league level". Confusing quote, but Thorpe was not the former.
  21. I couldn't agree more with this statement. Can you imagine if they covered automobile fatalities with the same vigor?
  22. Getting COVID-19 doesn't scare me either, but I am concerned, until I see more information, about getting it, having no symptoms and then passing it to either of my parents. Of course, I can avoid my parents until a vaccination is available, but that would be incredibly depressing for them and me. It may very well be that reality will be COVID-19 not being anymore risky than influenza, but that's tough to determine at the moment. With that said, I'm not going to take the retweeted words of a food engineer that wants us all to stop eating animals as the bible. "Info-demic" is definitely a good name for this.
  23. Dobnak seems to really want that 5th spot.
  24. I remember when epidemiologists were saying that up to 90,000 people in the US could die from H1N1 back in 2009. They ended up being off by about 75,000 (give or take). Too many of the articles that predict that stuff use words like "some", "potentially", "could" and other double-speak. That way they can say whatever they want without really saying it. I'd like to see some information on the death rate of this virus compared to the relative air quality index in each locale. Wuhan, China and Lombardia, Italy have some of the worst air in the world. I'm not making a statement, just an observation. That way I can say whatever I want without actually saying it.
