    2-13...2-13!! Maeda can't throw first pitch strikes and Stashak can't throw strikes when he needs to? They're supposedly control pitchers. We keep using Colomé in close games? Our 'closer' now has an ERA of +8.00. Why not try something different instead of continuing to bang the same broken drum? We had Civale on the ropes a number of times but couldn't get it done again? This is like a scratched record for this iteration of the Twins. I know this is rant-like, but come on. That is some very pathetic baseball being played and I'm not seeing any glimmers of shimmering samite from the players or staff to lift our spirits based on the games we've played recently. This team is very bad; it is being managed badly, and it doesn't seem to display any sort of grit. Can it be turned around? Maybe, but as Yogi Berra once said, "It's getting late early." ****Ranting now finished***** (at least until tomorrow)

    At the moment, he's a mediocre pitcher that throws strikes (or at least he did at one time), so if he is brought into games with little or no pressure, he excels. He has yet to convince me that he is nothing more than AAA pitcher. Maybe that would change with an additional pitch--let's hope it is something interesting like a knuckleball.

    For all of this talk of bullpen by committee, Baldelli more-or-less uses the same basic patterns for games. Irrespective of your feelings about this, it does not exactly jive with the outward posturing. This has resulted in a record of 2-6 in one-run games (0-3 in 'overtime'--my new preferred term) and 1-3 in two-run games. The good news is that, in general, the starters have exited the games in fairly good shape; the bad news is 'the system' hasn't really worked at all when turning games over to the bullpen. The first-place Royals, who really do practice bullpen by committee FYI, are 5-0 in one-run games and 2-1 in two run games, and their system seems to be working. Should the Twins adopt a real bullpen by committee? The season is long to be sure, but the farther a team is adrift, the harder it is to make up ground.

    Never make your team weaker on defense in a tight game (tied or ahead). The removal of Donaldson was a glaring error of judgment.

    I think you can always comment about the present situation. Each game counts. In fact, in some respects, these early games matter more because if your team comes to the end of August down 10 games, even if you suddenly start playing great baseball, your chances of making the postseason start dwindling and you have to hope that the frontrunner starts playing poorly or you can slip in as a wildcard. Contrarily, if you come to the end of August up 10 games on everyone, you can afford mediocre play now and then as long as you play well enough to maintain a cushion. My advice: Let's start winning now :-).

    To me, this is just a normal loss--nothing special--not really a meltdown like three out of four of the other losses. You just aren't going to win very many games scoring two runs over nine innings. I think Dobnak pitched well. If he started the game and gave up a run in the 3rd inning no one would bat an eyelash. I do have to say, however, that the lineup was baffling and although Buxton was batting leadoff, I ask 'Why?' Arraez should be the leadoff hitter and be on base so Buxton has an opportunity to drive him in (and get better pitch selection to boot).

    I'm not panicking, but ya know, we usually like to spread the ugly losses out over one season. We have three very ugly losses out the four games lost to date.

    Why Polanco as leadoff? I couldn't care any less about his ST. He really isn't hitting sans the two-run double against the Tigers (which was a very poor pitch). Arraez was fine in leadoff, but then for some reason he's nine? I'm will also mention that there is concern from me about the fielding gaffes, which are now directly tied to two of three losses.

    I'm just happy that they didn't cough up another game with Maeken on the mound. He'll be on the news tonight for sure. He's a fighter.

    Yes, it was a nice series, but please stop coughing up games in which Maeken pitches. This is a strange trend that goes back to last year. (We only get to watch the games that have a Japanese player playing.)

    I hope they are putting up a huge effort to improve Polanco's footwork. IMO, it is on the easy plays that he becomes his own worst enemy by slinging the ball across his body while facing home plate instead of stepping towards first base. When the situation isn't critical, he can control those throws through body and leg movement, but when the situation intensifies, his legs seem frozen making his throws erratic.

    I have the same concern as Dman. I'm not concerned about his arm strength but his throwing position. I was watching sumo a couple of years ago and the color commentator made this poignant point following a loss by the second week leader (sumo tournaments are 15 matches in 15 days). "He was demonstrating great technique in the first week and a half, but in his case, bad habits seem to reappear at the worst times."

    He's the one pitcher I absolutely do not want to trade unless they throw in the kitchen sink. For one thing, I just want to say Duran-Duran is a Minnesota Twin.

    Darrell Evans was another big time producer at age 40, and Twins fans remember him in the playoff games against the Tigers. He was feared--he walked 100 times! PA: 609 AB: 499 RUNS:90 HRS: 34 RBI: 99 AVG: .257 OBP: .379 SLG: 507 OPS: 880 WAR: 4.6

    Yes indeed. I saw him pitch only twice last year and his fastball had no discernable movement (granted this is anecdotal).
