  1. Sounds like the same size as Ryan O'Rourke - with about 4-5 MPH faster fast ball. At a minimum an upgrade there and probably Darnell as well. We still need to look for bullpen upgrades.
  2. If Weiters goes to the Nats as predicted in MLB Trade Rumors, add Ramos as a potential reunion.
  3. My question is how many Aces have the Twins had in their history? With a tip of the hat to franchise #1 Ace - Walter Johnson, in the MINNESOTA Twins 50+ year history I would say 1, Johan Santana. Frankie V was very close, he was certainly a #1, which I differentiate from an Ace. Radke, Kaat, Blyleven, Pascual, Perry, even Morris were good to very good pitchers, but none, yes none, were true Aces. I also don't see an Ace in the pipeline. If Barrios could turn into Pedro Martinez, that would be great. I do see some good to very good pitchers, and one could have an Ace-type season. I would say Kaat had that type of season in '66 and Viola in '88 and Perry in '70, so good pitchers can have great seasons. Consistent Aces are difficult to find. Gray is not yet an Ace in my opinion.
  4. If he could hit a little better he could be the ultimate utility guy. You have to respect anyone who can play all the positions up the middle. It would also solve the problem of keeping a third catcher on the roster, just as Herrmann could this year (especially if they would play him a little at 3rd as well as 1B, OF and C). These are the kind of player who could make a good 25th man.
  5. Actually, they kept 3 LH relievers last year - Perkins, Duensing and Theilbar. All 3 are likely to be back, unless they trade Duensing. It's also unknown what they'll do with Milone.
  6. Make Torii Hicks roommate starting in spring training. Strap him to Hicks, Buxton, Arcia,Kesler and Rosario so he can mentor them like Puck mentored him and like he mentored Denard and Revere. Yes, he can't play like he did at 28, but if he can light a fire in Hicks alone, it'll be worth at least $5M. Throw in 15 homers and 70 RBI's and the deal is worth it. I think he can still teach these kids a thing or two. Torii will be our first clubhouse leader since Cuddy left. It won't mean many wins this season, but look at him like Crash Davis, he's a $10M teacher.
  7. Eddie looked great! I hope he goes to Chattanooga along with Dougie Baseball and they win another title. I think Eddie could be ready to play CF at Target Field by Memorial Day!
  8. Plouffe has been talked about as a potential super utility guy after Sano gets here or as a trading chip, but after watching him this year I'm not so sure that's the direction I would go. With the outfield looking suspect and Plouffe's major improvement as a 3rd Baseman, I started thinking that it might not be so stupid to look at Sano in left. Many thought Sano might have to be moved to a corner OF, so why not consider it. Being able to have both of their bats in the lineup long term, might make a lot of sense. How about a lineup that looks like this - Santana SS, Buxton CF, Mauer 1B, Sano LF, Vargas DH, Arcia RF, Plouffe 3B, Suzuki/Pinto C, Dozier 2B
  9. In over 50 years and a dozen managers, the Twins have only gone outside the organzation twice - Bill Rigney and Ray Miller. (and they've only had 2 managers for the last 28 years.) I don't see them changing course at this late date. It might nice as a change of pace - but the last guy we brought in from outside the organization was Ray Miller and he was a disaster. I'm not against Molitor, however, I wouldn't put much stock in the items you list as qualifications. Think Ted Williams. When he was hired by Washington/Texas, they were expecting big things from him. He was a mediocre manager at best (with the same qualifications you mention for Molly.) I have to disagree with you about the last item. I don't want to bring someone in to learn from TR, I want the Twins to go in a different direction and not be contaminated by doing things "the Twins way". I want to bring someone in from outside the organization, but let them start fresh. See my post about what I would do after TR retires. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/15246-when-tr-retires/
  10. I wouldn't write off someone because they never played in the majors. It hasn't hurt current managers like Terry Collins of the Mets (10 years managing experience in majors), Fredi Gonzalez of the Braves (8 years), or Joe Maddon of the Rays (11 years). It also wasn't a handicap for Jim Leyland (22 years), Earl Weaver (17 years) or Joe McCarthy (who won 7 WS titles in his 16 years with the Yankees, and 24 years managing overall).
  11. I assume you mean 2014
  12. I said this elsewhere. This is the same age that Willingham was when he switched from catcher to LF. I don't see Pinto as any less coordinated than the Hammer. Let him play some outfield in winter ball and see if he's good enough (and maybe some 1B as well). If you can give him time at C, LF, 1B and DH next year, it would be worth it and he would spell Vargas, Mauer, Suzuki and whoever our regular LF will be and get his bat in on a regular basis.
  13. We don't know if they have passed through waivers. We hadn't heard anything before KC and the Hammer were traded. My guess is that they have at this point, along with some other guys.
  14. I prefer the speed of Hicks and Santana at the bottom of the lineup. Bunching Hicks, Santana, Buxton and Dozier together gives a nice balance of speed and power. But I wuldn't have a problem flipping Dozier and Mauer.
  15. What? You mean you didn't like Les Straker, Joe Neikro and Mike Smithson/Steve Carlton/Alan Anderson? They did win 18 games in total.
  16. In many ways it appears Pinto's defensive abilities shadow those of Matt LeCroy. Whether or not they can improve that waits to be seen.
  17. Here's great news - Rockies have DFA'd Jason Pridie!!!!! Maybe he's comin' back.
  18. To me you just keep looking at the waiver wire everyday. Schafer is one option, if a better option comes across the wire tomorrow, pick that guy up and DFA Schafer. We just need a body to help fill CF the rest of the season. Just keep scouring the wire until you pick up a decent option like Fuld was. You know, like Jason Bartlett, Jason Pridie or Jason Tyner.
  19. I was thinking Milone will take Pino's spot and May will take Darnell's spot. Don't know who comes off roster to make room for May.
  20. Darnell optioned to open spot on 25 man. Will May take his next start?
  21. Re Davis - can you say Brooks Kieschnick? The only player ever to hit home runs as an outfielder, a DH and a pitcher all in the same season (for Milwaukee). It would allow Gardy to have his 13 man pitching staff and a backup outfielder who is not a shortstop. PS Gardy wouldn't have to worry about shifting Pinto away from DH. In Davis' case having a pitcher hit would actually strengthen the lineup.
  22. Coming into this off-season, Terry Ryan said multiple times that everyone was on the table. He's now hedging his bets on next season in an interview with Phil Mackey - in other words 'don't expect much, I'm not spending a lot of money'. As long as we're throwing away 2013, let's build for 2014 and 2015. I liked Span, I like Revere, but I'd be willing to trade him away as well as Morneau and/or Willingham, if we could get some good starters who could be here by mid-2014. If Avisail Garcia can be playing regularly for the Tigers (a contender), Hicks and Arcia should be able to play just fine on a team building for the future. It might even draw more fans. Let the clock start ticking now, because down the road we can have Buxton and Kepler. If you could move all three for pitching, I'd be willing to take our lumps with an outfield of Hicks, Arcia and Benson, with Parmelee at first. It would actually be a much stronger defensive outfield than our current option (Willingham, Revere, Parmelee). As Ryan said, everyone should be on the table.
  23. Deolis Guerra is out of options. He either sticks or is off the 40-man.
  24. I haven't given up on Dozier, by the way. In the minors Jeter had a year with over 50 errors, but they let him work through it. Jeter doesn't have great range, but his instincts are great because of his experience. If the Twins let him, that could be Dozier as well. They just have no patience, in this case it's on Gardy (and I'm a Gardy backer). Having no experienced infielders on the coaching staff doesn't help.
