  1. I see nothing wrong with how Gardenhire handled that situation. I would want my coach to correct that type of sloppy behavior on the spot. Gardenhire is just the type of manager that the next group of Twins need to get them into playing shape (like Kelly did before he retired).
  2. I've come around to the side of patience on this one (after watching the Twins first month and reading this thread which also took me about a month). My reason for wanting two quality free agent starters during the fall and winter was I felt Morneau was poised to have a huge year, and Mauer, Hammer, and Doumit represented a good nucleus. I thought with our bullpen, this time could be competitive with two quality starters added to the mix. There are just too many needs with this current team and the growth has to take place from within and it needs time to play out. It's disappointing to me as I like M & M and I would love to see them win a championship together with the Twins.
  3. Dave Stieb (Jays) and Dave Stewart (A's) used to give the Twins fits as well.
  4. Quentin was a perfect fit for the Tighty Whiteys.
  5. Metrodome for the weekend? Every ticket is General Admission?
  6. I love KC and BBQ and Kaufman. Have fun for us SpiritofVodkaDave!
  7. Three cheers to Summit. Great employer with great employees that produce a great product!! I love the new Saga and the Pilsner on a hot Minnesota day cannot be beat. I hope they have it at Target Field this summer.
  8. I think you raise some excellent reasons as why these two players should both start the season in Rochester (for their benefit as well as "what's the rush?"). With the current path, I think we are looking at the team being able to contend in 2015 realistically. I think Morneau, Doumit, Carrol, and the Hammer will all be gone by then and their jobs are to just make this team respectable until the young talent is ready.
  9. Do we know that Escobar is better defensively than Florimon at this point?
  10. I listened in my car yesterday and it sounded good...really really good, but I was just in South Mpls.
  11. How could this Dr. Tony be such a dummy? You're a fake doctor, running a really dirty business, keeping records around that will ruin careers, and then on top of that you don't pay your employees and run your business like an 8th grader.
  12. Yes, good point guys. Almost everything went wrong that could regarding last year's starting rotation. This year hopefully everything will go well that can go well.
  13. Wow, I don't see it. The biggest piece I see totally differently is how he feels about the starting rotation going into last season compared to this one. Last season we had: Pavano (who we thought would be an innings eater and compete) Liriano (who we thought might have a bounce back year) Baker (who we thought could have a really good year) Blackburn (who because he had an injury healed we thought he might be okay) Marquis (who I thought would be an okay 5th starter). This year, there isn't a single one of the starters who I feel confident will go 180 innings and be effective. I am concerned about injuries with Worley and Diamond. Pelfrey and Gibson are both coming back from serious surgery, and Correria (sp?) is similar to Marquis. Plus our offense and defense will take a step back based on the losses of Revere and Span. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer.
  14. I think this is the reason. Ryan isn't feeling the expectation to win this year. He still has Carrol signed for around $3million and if either Florimon, Dozier, or the other guy can't nail down SS, Carrol will play the majority and they will look to improve the position next offseason when there is more of an expectation to win and maybe better free agents.
  15. I think Jack Morris could still induce a couple of ground balls.
  16. This is one of the reasons I am excited about 2014 and beyond! Hope he is able to translate the success to the bigs.
  17. Yes! These are all really good!! I want to see Lew Ford getting ready to pinch run by sprinting back and forth in foul ball territory. Every inning.
  18. I might have to get a lobotomy because I'm starting to think like a Cubs fan. I was just thinking though, if we are going to be as bad this year as it looks like we are, can we at least make it funny by bringing back Lew Ford or .... you name another player.
  19. I agree about the "photoshopping". His head looks too big and too old.
  20. Thank you for stating this point, that I agree with whole heartedly, so eloquently. The Twins are in a very dangerous position of losing the casual fans like they did in ~1993. I am convinced that they need to partly spend their way out of this situation and behave a little bit like the Angels and the Strangers for a change. Sometimes I wonder if TR, views spending little money on payroll as a win win. If the payroll is low, and the team produces, he's a genious. If the payroll is low and the team doesn't produce, well then that's okay because we expected it. It's risky to do what the Angels and Strangers are doing, but don't we as fans deserve a little bit of that too?
  21. One of the things that bugs with this PED era is you never are really sure when someone's numbers are legit. Ortiz leaves here, becomes a healthy and very productive player. Hardy goes from injury prone and 6 HR to being healthy and hitting 30 per year. My point is not that he started a new dietary approach, but I hate that I wonder if he did.
  22. In the days after RG3 suffered what could be a career limiting knee injury on an already gimpy knee, did anyone of you think about the Nationals play it safe approach? I thought it was ironic that both teams are up and coming. One choose to play all of it's cards now, and the other decided to take a more cautious approach. The Nats got ripped a lot in the national press in the months leading up to their first playoff appearance, and now the Redskins are taking their fair share of criticism after RG3s.
  23. I agree with some others here that there is some agreement behind the scenes between Gardy and TR. Otherwise Gardy would probably voice some sort of displeasure about having to coach for his life with what I think will be a worse all around team (worse offense, defense, but slightly better pitching) than the past two years. TR is sly. Just like when he brought up Nishioka and everyone knew Nishi had no business with the big league club last summer. It was a way to get out of that 3rd year (perhaps something might have been brokered behind the scenes prior to Nishi being called up?).
  24. I don't think the Pohlads are cheap anymore. I think Ryan is just trying to prove to everyone that he can get the most out of a $. I like the trades, but not the FA pitching adds. I just want to see TR sign at least one decent FA pitcher. Why throw $4 or $5 mil at bottom of the rotation guys when we have a ton of guys that are already under team control to fill that 5 spot? Instead sign one or two quality guys (between $10-$15 mil per year).
  25. Totally agree Jimbo. And has quantity ever been better than quality?
