  1. I have a rare case of Canadian Blindness. Don't mock.
  2. LOL. Do not want. What a horrible contract. Paying a guy Zack Greinke money who hasn't pitched in MLB.
  3. All Canadians look the same to me.
  4. Many people were vocal about Hicks not starting 2013 in Minnesota. I wavered a bit on the situation because the Twins literally had zero other options at the position. Given Hicks' struggles through each level before adjusting, it wasn't hard to predict him bombing out of MLB quickly. Given the guy's history, the jump from AA to MLB threw up red flags. No hindsight needed.
  5. An odd choice, for sure. Even Harmon's league-adjusted OPS (OPS+) was slightly higher in 1969, despite it being an expansion season the year the mound was lowered.
  6. Good to see my boy Joe Cronin make the cut. *thumps chest*
  7. In the case of Sano and Buxton, I feel it's the latter. Personally, I think Sano is going to fly through AAA and hit the majors some time in the second half of the season if he continues to hit like he has thus far. Ryan has shown a recent willingness to promote the kids, maybe to a fault. It worked for Arcia. It didn't work for Hicks. If the Twins have a need and the player looks ready in the minors, I think JR will pull the trigger sooner rather than later.
  8. I'm ready to see a better baseball team last week but not at the expense of losing a year of service time on a couple of potential superstars that aren't ready to face MLB pitching. They'll be here in time. Sure, I wish that time was right now but that's not realistic.
  9. And they're more likely to be productive starters if they're ready to face MLB pitching when they arrive in Minnesota. Nothing good will come of seeing them flounder for a year in Minnesota and waste a year of precious service time. Hell, they may flounder in Minnesota anyway... But if you give them time to sort out their issues in the minors, at least you're comfortable knowing that you did all you could to help them succeed in MLB.
  10. I have a simply response to this: Aaron Hicks. Sure, Buxton/Sano have higher ceilings than Hicks but Aaron was rushed to the majors prematurely and lost an entire season of development due to his awful play. Why are we in a rush to waste both development and service time on a player that probably isn't ready to face MLB pitching? Like I said earlier, Sano is 21 and Buxton is 20. It's not as if we're looking at a Jason Bartlett situation here. Nothing is guaranteed but if he's healthy and posting a .900 OPS in AAA (as he's done at pretty much every level thus far), I don't see how the Twins keep him in the minors.
  11. Baseball was a very different game in the early 80s. Outside of monster talent like Trout or Cabrera, guys simply don't make it to MLB before age 21-22 in today's game. Ryan isn't doing anything wrong with Sano and Buxton. He's taking them steadily through the system as they show the org they're ready to move. Besides, what's the rush? Every month of "postponement" of seeing Sano/Buxton comes closer to getting an entire extra year of control over them into their mid to late 20s (aka. their peak seasons). Sano is going to see MLB as a 21 year old and Buxton might see MLB as a 20 year old. I think it's a bit odd to grouse about not seeing them in MLB as teenagers.
  12. To me, this is the most frustrating (and at times, hopeful) part of the organization. The Twins have way too many bad players on the roster. They have a bunch of quality prospects waiting to come up and play MLB games. Some will fail, some will thrive. The end result is that the Twins end up in a holding pattern while these players sort out their roles on the team. The one position I don't see some kind of logjam is shortstop, which is why I'm in favor of picking up Drew... But he has his warts as well and isn't a perfect fit for the 2015-2016 Twins. Meh. It's not as easy as "buy all teh playerz!" if you're trying to compete over a long period of time.
  13. Only if you believe them to be MLB talent. I don't mind the rotation "situation" right now... The past three years, the Twins have lacked both quality and depth in the rotation. This offseason, Ryan did a decent job of shoring up both the talent and depth deficit. Worley and Gibson will get their shots some time this season.
  14. He qualified his statement as "best of his lifetime". I still find his choice interesting, as the obvious second place shortstop is Juan Castro.
  15. No. Rosario is basically untradeable in 2014. His suspension will depress his value until he posts a full season and gets back on track. As for other prospects, I doubt we see any acquisition trades in 2014... Ryan is hesitant to trade for MLB vets under the best of circumstances. I don't see it happening in a season where the Twins are not expected to compete and even if everything coalesces perfectly, are still probably no better than a .500 team.
  16. It depends on if a team views him as starting material or not... But yeah, I don't see him getting a 3/$24m deal.
  17. More like "he got lucky with a bunch of barely-over-the-wall homers one year and then moved to a stadium that crushed his power numbers".
  18. To ease the transition to a seamless replay system, MLB will also be employing these at first base, third base, and centerfield.
  19. What I would give to see Ortiz start laying bunts down the third base line every time a team shifts against him. Really, I don't understand why players don't do it... Free base! Even Ortiz can outrun that throw, provided he can get it past the pitcher (which shouldn't be hard against the average RHP).
  20. It's possible it was just health and fitness related but it seems to me like there'd be a fair amount of adjustment in there as well once bat speed and strength starts to fade.
  21. Sure, any premium contract has the risk of going disastrously wrong for the signing team. But a 25 year old Kershaw on a seven year deal is near the top of "risky" contracts that I'd snatch up in a heartbeat. It's less risk and higher potential performance than, say, Justin Verlander's contract.
  22. Kevin Brown was 34 years old when he was signed by the Dodgers. Chan Ho Park didn't sign a big contract with the Dodgers. He came through their system. Jason Schmidt was also in his mid 30s when he signed. Darren Dreifort, on the other hand... That contract was inexplicable. Nothing like Kershaw, though.
  23. Yeesh. I knew there was no way he was leaving the Dodgers but I didn't expect his yearly salary to surpass $30m.
  24. There are ALWAYS things to meme.
  25. There is a lot to be said for a guy who is in his late 50s who has been in professional baseball for 40 years and is still open to learning new things and trying new ideas. Not all new ideas are good ones but they must be explored to test their legitimacy. I have no patience for people who believe in doing things "because that's the way they've always been done". It shows a lack of critical thinking and complacency and frankly, a lack of intelligence.
