  1. There was no reason to expect this kind of production from Suzuki. A pleasant surprise, for sure. On the other hand, there was no reason to expect decent production from Florimon outside of miscast hope. The guy wasn't good in the minors. Last year, he became progressively worse at the plate. He's 27 years old.
  2. Indeed. If only some of us saw this coming. While defensive run saved/allowed can be a bit sketchy, Fangraphs currently has Florimon listed at +12.1 runs saved over his career at shortstop. At the plate? He's -25.8 runs. While I'm no math major, when I add up those numbers I see a player who is an overall detriment to his team. Which pretty much lines up exactly how I eyeballed Florimon in the first place. Good with the glove, a complete menace with the bat that more than offsets anything good he does in the field.
  3. According to the Twins site, tomorrow.
  4. Except that Morris didn't pitch to the scoreboard. That is a myth that has been shot down multiple times. To my knowledge, there is no such thing as a pitcher who pitches to the scoreboard, at least not enough to make a discernible dent in his career line.
  5. And that's why you don't call up a guy after two starts, a guy who is refining a brand-new pitch. Meyer will get it sorted but he needs to do it in the minor leagues.
  6. I don't get the "Dozier's not a perfect leadoff guy" arguments. He's near the top of the league in stolen bases. He has an OBP just over .370. What more do people want from the guy? Yeah, in a perfect world you'd have a guy with eight home runs hitting third in the lineup but Dozier looks to be a very good leadoff guy if he continues to get on base at a good clip and steal bases when appropriate.
  7. This is absurd. I work on complicated machines all day. My job is pretty difficult at times. Yet the machines I work on are so incredibly simple compared to the human body that I wouldn't even dare make a comparison between the two. Medical professionals spend a decade training for the right to work on and diagnose the human body. If you think that you have the right to criticize these highly trained people just because you have access to a browser and once watched 15 minutes of Scrubs, have at it but don't expect anyone rational to take you seriously or show you much respect for it. The hubris it requires to think you can diagnose and criticize a professional in what might be the most difficult job in the world just because you use the internet is awesome. And the comparison to baseball is silly. We have thousands of statistical models for baseball and access to thousands of data points for every player. We get to watch the players and we see every moment of their professional on-field career. Yet you draw the comparison between that and diagnosing medical treatments when we have no training and don't even get to read the medical reports? Absurd.
  8. I find layman commentary on medical decisions/diagnoses to be absolutely hilarious but not in a good way. That's all I will say.
  9. Ugh. I'm all for Santana getting a shot this season but it should be at the expense of Florimon. Have I mentioned how much I don't like Florimon?
  10. Derp. Completely forgot that Arcia has been rehabbing. I just wrote him off as "wrist injury, will probably be pronounced dead in three weeks". Wrist injuries are the worst.
  11. Next time you see one, right click on your page. Select View Source. Paste all of that content into a .txt file and email that attachment to brock@twinsdaily.com. I've been trying to track down who is serving those $&%$ing ads but haven't seen one in a long time. If I can look at the generated code, I can see who is doing it.
  12. So, we now know that Pelfrey is DLed, which allows Deduno to take Pelfrey's spot and Darnell to take Deduno's spot, which puts the pitcher count at a harrowing 13 pitchers out of 25 (so many!) players. So, who fills in for Hicks? Nunez? And (please god) is there a chance we'll see Florimon demoted soon?
  13. Well, that's good news. It seemed like the common sense thing to do but as we've discussed at great length on the forums in recent weeks, common sense ain't always common.
  14. Well, there you go. Good for Sam-I-Am.
  15. There's some truth in this. In his last seven days, Colabello has a BABIP of .111. Over his last 14 days, it's just .240. I don't think we'll ever see early April's Chris Colabello again but there's still a good shot he turns into a serviceable DH and backup corner guy.
  16. We disagree here. It's well-documented that I've been banging the Dozier drum for a long time now. I fully expected him to post an OPS of .750 or better with a good OBP this season. I don't see rapid decline from him at all. He's doing too many things right to suddenly fall off a cliff and he's been doing those things for 600+ plate appearances now. To me, the only thing that's less than ideal about Dozier leading off is those dingers. You'd like to slide that guy down the lineup and hope he can hit more homers with men on base.
  17. And if that's the case, they should have acquired somebody else. It doesn't make sense to hold onto a guy for 2+ months as your backup CF option and then jettison him, knowing there isn't a capable replacement. That is gross mismanagement. If that's truly what happened, then the front office doesn't really have a leg to stand on... But we don't know that's what happened.
  18. As it turns out, there are actually several decent OBP guys on the team right now. Dozier is doing just fine in the leadoff position. And I couldn't care less about Joe Mauer's "run production". You know that, jokin.
  19. It's possible, it's just so mind-blowingly stupid that I can't believe anyone would actually do it.
  20. And that's where we differ in opinion, I guess. I don't care about a "leadoff man". Put a high OBP guy in the leadoff spot and be done with it. I'm not a big believer in needing speed at the top of a lineup.
  21. I felt the same way until the Twins started jettisoning pitchers and players with reckless abandon. Near the end of March, it seemed as if they may have had a change of heart about aggressively pushing the kids onto the roster.
  22. If their failure to address either shortstop or centerfield is because of Jason Bartlett, words escape how I feel about that.
  23. And that's fine. You would have preferred the Twins sign other players... But that doesn't imply incompetence or mismanagement on their part. What we do know is that Presley was an adequate backup or stop-gap CF measure. The Twins had him under contract. What we don't know is why they waived him. It could have been gross incompetence by management. It could have been something else. We simply don't know.
  24. The timelines don't work. The Twins had Presley when Bonifacio was available. Again, that's the crux of this matter. What happened between the Twins and Presley between February 15th (the day the Cubs signed Bonifacio) and the end of March? Let's not let the tail wag the dog here. Bonifacio has a career OPS+ of 81 compared to Alex Presley's OPS+ of 96. Until Bonifacio started hitting four weeks ago, he was nobody's savior and most on this board would have taken Presley over him in a heartbeat. He's a year younger with a better track record. As for Sizemore, he signed in January. People are retroactively suggesting that the Twins should have been looking for a worse centerfielder than they already had on the roster in Presley.
  25. I'm not giving them a pass, I'm questioning what happened. If they just released Presley for no real reason, that wasn't a smart move. In fact, that was a pretty bad move, especially because they replaced him with Jason Bartlett.
