  1. Cool cool, this just means the five of us can get extra drunk at dinner the night before.
  2. Excellent post, Ash. And what you outlined here is why I've stayed well clear of "the Twins were played" or other implications of them being, well, stupid in some way. In the words of LMM... I believe they mis-read the market but I think a lot of baseball mis-read the market going into November. But once the market solidified, the Twins remained (as you put it) rigid instead of adapting. Whether that meant offering Correa more money or pivoting while it was possible to acquire a Willson Contreras and/or a Chris Bassitt, I don't really care that much. That's where the discipline Jack mentioned comes into play; choosing to bow out of the Correa market or pay the requisite amount to have him seriously consider Minnesota. Either decision is a fine one, but the decision must be made. But the worst possible outcome is the one they find themselves right now. It's basically "Dansby Swanson or bust" and given the lack of options remaining, it's probably more accurately stated as "way overpay Dansby Swanson relative to his career performance or bust".
  3. That wouldn't surprise me, either. And I was never that particularly high on Rodon so I'm not gnashing my teeth over it. I was open to the Twins signing him but given his injury, he scares the hell out of me.
  4. That's really not an unreasonable amount for Rodon. That's the kind of deal the Twins could have easily signed.
  5. Heyman jumped out a few minutes ago with a brief tweet that, if correct, means one of only two star (or close to star) free agents remaining has gone off the table. Left-hander Carlos Rodon, by all accounts pursued by the Minnesota Twins, will be donning pinstripes in the Bronx in 2023 and beyond. Any guesses on dollars and years? View full rumor

  7. MLBTR did a really nice dive on the possible and likely landing spots for shortstop Dansby Swanson with the Cubs, Twins, and Braves leading the way. The Cubs have seemingly been high on Swanson from day one but their continued reluctance to spend to their market size could prevent them from nabbing the shortstop whose bat broke out in 2022 (but also lacks the track record to make a 6+ year contract a no-brainer decision). The Twins... well, I don't think any of us know what to expect from them and I remain unconvinced Swanson is worth a six-year risk, much less the seven or more years he may receive in this wild offseason. It's also hard to imagine the Braves not making at least a cursory attempt to retain their starting shortstop, especially given their financial flexibility after locking up half their roster at bargain basement prices. 9. Okay, this is the second complaint I’ve seen about this today. If anyone sees this happen (full screen ads), screen shot and PM me the screenshot. I have interstitial ads disabled because they’re so annoying; users should never see them.
  10. Nick Nelson’s wall is here for you to issue your apology: https://twinsdaily.com/profile/18-nick-nelson/
  11. More like revenue sharing time.
  12. Because the gambit is so much fun? Seriously, though, so many people are playing high-level chess in this situation that it's just fun to sit back and watch.
  13. Joel Sherman of the New York Post mentioned today that the Yankees are discussing trading for an outfielder with the Twins and Diamondbacks, possibly to stay under a luxury tax tier. The Twins have a glut of outfield options currently in the majors and high minors. They need to find spots for the likes of Max Kepler, Nick Gordon, Alex Kirilloff, Trevor Larnach, and Matt Wallner. In case you're not good at counting, that's a lot of outfielders. More than three. The Yankees system has a bunch of enticing names that surely interest the Twins. And we all know how well trading an outfielder to the Yankees has worked for the Twins in the past. But still, this deal could make a lot of sense for both teams if done well. John Ryan Murphy was unavailable for comment as this story was published. View full rumor

  15. Yes. But really, it is both. We LOVE the Meltdown and bringing everyone together. On the other hand, online advertising is in a state that makes us feel a little squishy about its long-term potential. Having a subscriber base stabilizes the site's income and our ability to pay our creators.
  16. You can buy into being a caretaker for as little as $6/month, which is literally $34 LESS than the price of a ticket. And then you get free publications multiple times a year, weekly in-depth analysis from the likes of Matt Trueblood and Parker Hageman, etc... if you're planning to go to the Meltdown, becoming a caretaker is close to a no-brainer.
  17. Even if you take a relatively low ticket price like $25, that's roughly $30m before you factor in concessions and whatnot.
  18. Title correction: Padres Might Go After Literally Anyone, AJ Preller May Be Institutionalized
  19. At this point I wonder how much what Cohen is doing is pressuring Steinbrenner to step up and act more like his dad when it comes to the pocketbook.
  20. You know what? I retract my former comment. This section is new and I'm just feeling out how it should work. Bogaerts was considered a Twins target by pretty much everybody. This absolutely should be in the rumors section. Now when deGrom signed, not so much. The Twins were never linked to him... but many considered Bogaerts a real option, which means him coming off the board should be posted as a rumor.
  21. His bat is much more palatable if he's occasionally playing center against righties to rest Buxton or fill in when Byron is injured. That's really the core of my problems with Max. As a hitter, he is who he is at this point. I can deal with that if he's bringing more defensive versatility to the team and helping in center field so Rocco doesn't have to play Celestino every game during Buxton's inevitable IL stints.
  22. Oh boy, that's a good question. Maybe it's being overplayed by people but I've heard Gleeman mention it a few times and it has just kind of seeped into our collective consciousness. I vaguely recall him saying he doesn't like to play center but maybe I'm just making that up to build a narrative. If anyone out there remembers where this all started, I'd love to see it. Maybe I'm inflating what has actually been said.
