  1. Fro wasn't banned.
  2. What is this "BYTO" thing everyone talks about and does it go well with red or white wine?
  3. I've been on board with the Escobar move to short for a week or so, I just hadn't realized Santana was that bad in May.
  4. So instead of trading a middling starter with bad peripherals, you think it makes more sense for the Twins to trade their second best starter? *scratches head in confusion*
  5. This is a good lesson on why one should use K%, not K/9. Nolasco K/9: 7.1 Hughes K/9: 5.7 A difference of 26%. Nolasco K%: 18.8 Hughes K%: 15.1 A difference of 20%. Nolasco walks more, gives up more hits, and faces more batters. Therefore, his K/9 rate is skewed because he faces more batters per nine innings. (all of this is separate from the fact that Hughes' numbers are well below his career norms while Nolasco's are right at his career norms)
  6. While I agree that it's a good thing to have a glut of MLB starters, the day Santana returns the Twins will have seven capable MLB starters (of varying degrees of "capable"). You don't have to even include the MiLB kids to see a logjam forming in the rotation and it starts just ~30 days from now.
  7. I retract that last post somewhat. I looked over Santana's splits and... good god, they're horrible. OPS: 7 days: .182 14 days: .269 28 days: .494 2015: .549 Ughhhhhhhh.
  8. That's my thinking as well. While I believe Santana should probably be demoted, I don't think it will happen until late June at the very earliest. The team is winning and he's getting experience while it happens. I think the bullpen and DH situations will be shored up soon, though... At least I hope they will.
  9. Let's ease up on the snark, everyone. A lot of people ate "I told you so's" for four years while the Twins suffered horrible losses. They're taking a bit of glee in the winning - a little too much glee at times - and it'll run its course soon enough.
  10. To be clear, I'm not advocating the Twins to attempt this kind of move at the deadline... But it should be considered in the offseason if the pitching continues to look strong on the farm.
  11. In the case of Nolasco, I'd definitely consider eating contract money just to shove him out of town and clear room for Santana, Milone, and Berrios. I highly doubt Terry Ryan agrees with my opinion.
  12. I'd be hesitant to make any trades that give up players in the organization's top 15 this season. I don't think the Twins have the horses to compete through the dog days. I'd rather see them start aggressively infusing the lineup with potential breakout players like Buxton, Sano, Berrios, etc. Maybe Meyer out of the pen in July. Those moves could pay as big, if not bigger, dividends through the rest of the season. But yeah, no trades that deplete the on-field product of the Minnesota Twins, either. Does anyone really care if Mike Pelfrey walks away after the season is complete? I sure don't. And if you don't care whether Pelfrey walks, why on earth would you trade him while the team is contending? Enjoy the winning, don't rock the boat. Save some of those valuable trade chits for 2016 and beyond. Just let it ride this season and see what happens.
  13. Looks like we're officially into promotion season. I can't imagine that Berrios will remain in Chattanooga much longer.
  14. Mike Pelfrey leads the league in HBP with seven hit batters. He's really gettin' after it out there.
  15. Given Nolasco's upside, or lack thereof, a trade would be great. The Twins could put Milone in his place and get similar results. Next year, it opens the door for Berrios and Meyer. With that said, it's not happening.
  16. You should give the comic books a shot. The first 4-5 volumes are very good. After that, the quality is somewhat mixed.
  17. I wouldn't go so far as to call Hicks terrible, as it doesn't accurately represent the development he seems to be showing since the return to Minnesota. He's swinging at just 22% of pitches outside the zone. That's not a huge departure from previous seasons but... This year, he's swinging at 73% of pitches in the zone, a 13% improvement over 2014. His contact rate and a few other metrics haven't changed noticeably. This tells me that unlike Rosario, Hicks is not guessing at pitches. He knows when it's in the zone and swings. He knows when it's not in the zone and takes. That's a very promising sign. Extreme SSS warning: it's possible that this altered approach is paying dividends already. Versus RHP, he has a .650 OPS, compared to just .560 versus LHP. In short, Aaron Hicks is trying a new approach. It hasn't netted him great results yet but he has a better chance of becoming a productive MLB player now than he has at any time since 2013. He's more aggressive and he's making contact against RHP, striking out just six times in 41 PAs. Those were the two biggest flaws in Aaron's game going into this season.
  18. This. Times 1000. If the Twins are winning in July, the only "value" they should care about is what they're getting from the players on the field. Worry about what happens in November in November.
  19. Teams shouldn't worry about selling high when they're leading the division, particularly when it's one of the guys who helped them get there. If it helps make the team better today, that's a different story... But trading Mike Pelfrey probably isn't going to help make the team better in 2015.
  20. The Rays aren't a good comparison. They drafted top five from their introduction to 2009. The Twins were bottom 15 drafter almost every year from 2002-2011. Since 2009, the Rays haven't been as infallible as they once appeared. Shocking. Now if you want to talk Cardinals...
  21. So the Twins, while leading the division, should trade their second best starter because he has value right now? Sounds like a good way to intentionally shot yourself in the foot.
  22. Tim Stauffer is undefeated this season.
  23. Yeah, I know that's the counting version but I was curious if anyone broke it down week by week with a few sentences of analysis to go with it. You know, kind of like what ESPN, CBS, et al do every week... Except not arbitrary and stupid.
  24. Do any of the advanced sites try any numbers-based power rankings? I'd be curious to see someone take a shot at that.
