  1. It doesn't specify who she is, only that Kylo knows her identity... Which I suspected after watching the film. He becomes very upset when an officer mentions Finn and BB-8 escaped with a girl. In the book, he says something along the lines of "So it IS you" to Rey and Snoke says "Kylo's suspicions about the girl were correct". Given that Kylo knows her identity and guessed it while Snoke did not, that leads me to suspect there's a familial relationship between Kylo and Rey.
  2. Oh, there's a nifty surprise in the novelization. Kylo knows Rey's identity. Two references are made to it: one by Ren, one by Snoke.
  3. It's a bit surprising some of the scenes passed over in the film (I assume the novelization is based on early scripts). There's an entire scene that introduces Leia, Threepio, and Artoo earlier in the story and explains why the camera focused on a single woman during Starkiller's attack on the Hosnian system. If you want to understand the film a bit more, I recommend the book. It'd be pretty meh on its own but as a complement to the film, it's interesting.
  4. I'm nearly done with the novelization. Most of the feelings I had leaving the film were correct. Ren struggled with probing Rey's mind because he's having a crisis of conscience. In turn, Rey became more powerful because Ren accidentally opened her up to the Force during the mind probe.
  5. $13.5m, if memory serves. So basically, Nolasco/Santana money. Reasonable but still unnecessary, IMO.
  6. I don't expect the Twins to aim as high as a guy like Chapman - not right now, anyway - but I'm dismayed at their inability to get anything of note done about the bullpen to this point. If the Twins pursue a guy of Chapman's ability, I'd like to see them go big and get a guy who will be here for 2-3 years, not one... And it makes the most sense to do that via free agency. I'm not in love with the idea of giving up significant farm pieces for a one-year rental of a reliever. YMMV, obviously.
  7. So is she Wedge's or Porkins' kid? I vote Porkins.
  8. I think that scene was meant to display just how powerful he is while later scenes display just how little control he has over the power. That's how I read it, anyway.
  9. As for Rey, I'm hoping she has no familial relation to any main characters. Kenobi is a stretch, Luke is too obvious... I'm hoping she's a descendant of another Jedi Master from the prequels, someone who didn't get a lot of screen time and spent the movies on the periphery. Or what about Dooku? That would be pretty cool, the more I think of it. He left the order so he wasn't bound by the Jedi Code for a long period of time (though he was already pretty old).
  10. The new canon has some pretty good books released in the past two years. Tarkin and Lords of the Sith are probably the best of the bunch, though Aftermath has some promise (trilogy, only the first book has been released).
  11. It's possible he destroyed enough of the class where Luke disbanded the group for fear of it happening again. But yeah, it seems unlikely Kylo was able to defeat the entire group unless he was considerably older than the others. Or it's possible the Knights of Ren are Luke's former students and Kylo wasn't the only one who left to join Snoke. Personally, I think it would be cool if Snoke was Sidious' master, Darth Plagueis.
  12. I mostly agree though I wouldn't tell him anything going into ST. I'd tell Hughes, Santana, and Gibson they have a spot and let the rest of them fight for the last two spots without anyone having a real advantage (all things being equal, I'd lean toward Nolasco in the pen, though). (to be clear, ST results wouldn't be the only deciding factor... training, attitude, "stuff", etc would weigh more heavily)
  13. To be clear, I was speaking of Pavano's time with the Yankees, not the Twins. I think you're talking about Nolasco here but I'm not positive.
  14. The closest guy I can think of off-hand is Carl Pavano.
  15. It's way too early to make a decision about who starts versus who relieves but yeah, Nolasco should be on the outside looking in at this point. If he looks fantastic in ST, maybe you give him a shot at the rotation but paycheck and seniority should not be a big factor.
  16. The Twins need to make a decision with Meyer but last year, they had no good options. They couldn't even keep the guy in the AAA rotation because he was a disaster. They certainly couldn't put him in the MLB rotation. At that point, the only (crappy) option remaining is to let him try to sort things out in the bullpen. We can only hope last year was an aberration for Meyer.
  17. If the Twins "ruined" Meyer, they sure did a roundabout job of it. When the team acquired Meyer, he was ranked #83 by BP. Before the 2015 season, he was ranked #14 by BP. Other lists had similar jumps, though BA stayed consistent with him (#59 in 2013, #62 in 2015). So in essence, people are arguing the Twins first helped the guy before destroying him. This argument is... highly illogical.
  18. The Hughes acquisition was the type of smart, cost-effective management we'd been clamoring to see for years. The Hughes extension was the type of Twins move we've groaned about for years. It still has a good chance of working out for everyone involved but it seemed unnecessary. If you like Phil Hughes that much and want to reward him for his 2014 season, give him one, maybe two, additional years. I just don't see the point in that three year extension (though, again, it could easily turn into a really solid extension for the team).
  19. AFAIK, there have been no rumors of Billy Dee appearing, with or without a Colt .45 in hand. I hope they bring him back for at least a cameo.
  20. I'm also leaning toward Rey being related to Luke, or at least there being more to that story. Han gives Rey a few interesting looks and when Maz asks "So where'd you find the girl?", the scene cuts away. I suspect Han, Leia, and/or Luke know her origin at the very least.
  21. Wookiees live hundreds of years. That's why Chewie looks the same. If memory serves, Chewbacca was about 150 years old in Episode III, which puts him around 200 or better in Episode VII.
  22. One thing I find interesting is the online confusion over The Resistance. I felt the reasons for this organization to exist were quite obvious. Episode II's main plot followed how the Republic isn't supposed to have an army and the "good guys" were fighting its creation. It makes sense that once the Republic was reestablished, the military was dissolved... But covertly, the Republic (probably headed by Mon Mothma) realized the Empire/First Order wasn't going to go quietly into the night and funneled money to Leia and Ackbar, who remained separate from the Republic and formed The Resistance. At least that's how I read the situation.
  23. Hmmm, I may have missed that or simply forgot about it. I'm going to see the movie a second time in a few hours. It should be interesting to see what other things I pick up in a second viewing.
  24. While I don't disagree on your value of Gibson versus Miller, it's mainly due to age and therefore, potential improvement and later decline. Last season, Gibson struck out 6.7 per 9 in the AL. Miller struck out 7.5 per 9 in the NL. Adjusted for league, those two numbers come within half a batter per nine innings. For all intents and purposes, they're close to the same guy, though one is quite a bit younger than the other.
  25. Really, The Force is a galaxy-wide Deus Ex Machina in Star Wars. It does what needs to be done when the creator needs it and vanishes when the creator needs to up the drama. It's part of the schlocky charm of the universe when done correctly but also means the universe is broken when you put it under a microscope.
