  1. Which the article clearly points out. The Twins appear to be at or near the front of its usage in MLB, though.
  2. Great article from Wetmore, explaining how the Twins are using new tech (called Catapult) in an attempt to better monitor player fatigue and reduce injuries. http://www.1500espn.com/twins-2/2016/03/the-twins-forward-thinking-approach-to-medical-technology-using-sports-bras/ Naturally, Ryan has his typical curmudgeonly quote, which cracked me up: Interesting stuff.
  3. I'm (incredibly) skeptical Arcia will ever be a plus outfielder. I'd be thrilled with "competent". His struggles against lefties is very real and very common amongst young (and many old) left-handed hitters. But that's not a death sentence... 70% of MLB pitchers put their glove on their left hand.
  4. We just found Sano's pitcher for this year's Derby.
  5. It's a bit more complex than that or every pitcher who throws 95mph would be in MLB, striking out hitters left and right. Maybe Tonkin needs to take a mph off his fastball to get more movement on it. Maybe that causes Tonkin to lose the feel for the pitch, making that adjustment useless overall. Maybe he needs to change his grip but a grip change causes wildness that he can't seem to overcome. There could be many reasons his fastball is straight and there isn't a magic "fix it" button that turns him into a quality MLB pitcher just because he throws hard. Velocity can't be taught and that gives Tonkin a leg up over many other pitchers vying for MLB jobs. On the other hand, velocity in itself doesn't guarantee success. There are mechanical, grip, arm slot, etc. factors and maybe the Twins have tried them all but none of them seem to work for Michael. It's all too easy to lay blame with the coaching staff for any problems a pitcher may have but that ignores the fact there is a human being throwing those pitches who may be unable or unwilling to learn what is being taught.
  6. LaTroy Hawkins once had a straight 95+ mph fastball. He did okay for himself. Velocity matters but a pitcher can't get by on velocity alone. I haven't given up on Tonkin but I don't have much faith in his development, either. Plenty of spring left to evaluate the guy.
  7. Did anyone actually see the Park homer? How'd it look, what kind of pitch, etc?
  8. Mike killed Nancy Reagan. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41rqKoh-FbL.jpg
  9. True, Cruz isn't a factor in either of the large winner take all races.
  10. It looks like the tides may be turning on Trump. He was a huge favorite in early Louisiana voting but Cruz nipped at his heels on voting day. Big day for Cruz. It appears the GOP establishment is rallying around him, now we'll find out if it's too little too late. Not that I believe either candidate can win a general but it makes for an interesting race.
  11. A fair rebuttal. One can't go a week without hearing a Chicken Little voice an opinion. Sooner or later one of them will be right. I still don't have a lot of faith in the short-term market, though.
  12. With that said, I'm locking the thread. This thread doesn't reflect the kind of discussion we want on Twins Daily and it has been on the front page of the forum for weeks. Do not attempt to revive or create new Mauer threads until something happens that's worth discussing.
  13. Thank you for being sane, Seth. March 5th, people. March 5th.
  14. Perhaps I need to define the word "maybe" for you. I'm not the one drawing conclusions. Mauer is who he is. I'm neither blaming him nor lauding him for how he has acted since the concussion. My suggestion is that maybe you should take a break from creating and/or posting in Mauer threads for awhile. You seem like a reasonable poster whenever Joe Mauer isn't the topic of discussion.
  15. A guy can't walk back from "we'll bomb their families". And then there are the hundred other absurd things Trump has said in front of a camera over the past two years. It's too late. He's either a waffler or a liar if he tries to come back from his more outrageous ideas.
  16. Never mind that Mauer wants to wear the glasses to ease concussion symptoms. Maybe he didn't feel symptoms today so he didn't wear glasses. There are many questions, few answers. Certainly not enough to draw any kind of reasoned conclusion about much of anything. Then again, this thread isn't really about rational discussion and exploration, it's a thinly veiled witch hunt built on supposition and half truths.
  17. Thanks for clarifying. While watching the game, it didn't look sunny but sometimes it's hard to tell.
  18. I don't know and to be completely frank, I don't give a damn. It's March 5th. This was Mauer's second day game of Spring Training. Maybe he didn't feel symptoms so he didn't wear the glasses. Or maybe he doesn't like the glasses and can't adjust to them. It's March 5th. I love this part of the season because baseball is back but I loathe this part of the season because people fly completely off the friggin' handle and make assumptions without stopping to consider it's March 5th. Mauer could have a million reasons for not wearing the glasses today. We'll get more information on it soon enough.
  19. Huh. I had no idea. Makes his performance last season all the more impressive.
  20. He said he was going to experiment with wearing them, not that he was going to wear them for every day game.
  21. Holy ****ing ****. This is why the government shouldn't be allowed free rein over tech. Most don't understand tech enough to comment, much less legislate.
  22. Yeah, I think rough times are on the horizon, which is why 85-90% of my 2015 investments went into dividend stocks. I'll make money while the market stumbles around.
  23. Fangraphs has been quite bullish on the Twins system and many of its young players. They seem to be pretty big fans of a lot of what Ryan has done in recent years. So many you should hold off on the "Neanderthal" comments and stop taking potshots at the team every other post.
  24. This is what I'd like to see happen with Polanco. Unless a team out there really wants him and offers big value. Then I may trade the guy.
