  1. You mean the Hall of Player player with a career .369 OBP doesn't understand its significance? Uh... And you realize Doug Mientkiewicz is more old school than Molitor, right? The guy dislikes advanced stats.
  2. Yeah, this is very common. Teams often like to give a kid a day for travel and acclimation.
  3. That's why I said.
  4. Around here, it's hard to tell some days.
  5. You edited this post. Seriously, WTF. How did you even edit that post? What went wrong with typing a smiley face? Now I have two things for which I'll never forgive you.
  6. I noticed as well and I'll never forgive you for it.
  7. Santana in the two slot makes no sense under any circumstances. And from all reports, Kepler is a Wil Myers-type. A "minor league centerfielder" but not MLB centerfield material. Which theoretically means he won't embarrass himself in a corner spot.
  8. On March 1st of every year since 1901, people magically forget the baseball season lasts 150+ games. THE STARTING LINEUP ON OPENING DAY DICTATES HOW THE SEASON WILL END
  9. The... baseball season... is... six... months...
  10. WOW. I did not see this coming. It appears the front office is also displeased with the 0-5 start.
  11. Rasmus isn't sliding toward the bag but he's also not sliding toward the infielder. If anything, if he goes hard at the bag (and therefore the infielder), the chance of injury increases. Rasmus didn't try to grapple the fielder's leg, he didn't try to interfere with the play, he just slid wide of the bag... And suddenly, two outs. It's game over in a tight game. That's NFL territory right there. The umps called the game and took the players out of the equation.
  12. Oh, okay then. Eric Fryer is bad at baseball. That's all I have to say about that.
  13. An increasingly large problem. I like some of the stuff Bruno brings to the table - no fear of pull-hitters, taking a pitch - but honestly, I still don't understand why the Twins demoted Vavra. It seemed like he was doing an okay job of balancing hitters while not attempting to force them into a mold. Joe Mauer was not Justin Morneau was not Jason Kubel.
  14. See, I think that was a terrible call (but it followed the new rule, I'll give you that). The fielder didn't even attempt a throw. That's not good baseball. A guy was called out when there wasn't even an attempt to make a play to get him out (and the runner didn't interfere with the fielder making the play, not even a little bit). I don't understand how anyone could think that's good baseball. That's NFL baseball. And I'm saying this as a person who isn't entirely against the new rule... But the way it's currently implemented is utter horse****. That was a good ballgame ended prematurely by the umps. I don't see how that's enjoyable for anyone involved, especially the fans. I generally dislike Dan Gladden but he brought up a good point tonight: You rarely slide directly into second because that's where the fielder is going to be. This rule is forcing the runner to predict how the fielder is going to react and the team can be penalized if he doesn't predict correctly.* *this is not the way Gladden said it but it was the general gist behind his point
  15. No, they were a few games under .500... Which is why most of the rational people on Twins Daily predicted between 75-85 wins for this team. This isn't a bad team. It isn't a great team. It's a middling team with the potential to be better, it's just a matter of realizing that potential. And five games isn't going to make or break that potential. This 0-5 start might mean the team is going to win 75 games this season. Or it could kick them in the ass and propel them to being much better because it forces roster moves many of us wanted to see (to varying degrees) out of Spring Training. Time will tell.
  16. Have we descended to the point where we think Eric Fryer is a good baseball player? Come on, people. Yeah, tonight's game was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Now step away from the ledge and regain your sanity. Stop talking like crazy people.
  17. They have an OPS around .400 with RISP and an OPS around .800 with the bases empty. That's bad luck. Yeah, this team has problems, I'm not disputing that... But they should probably be 2-3 right now with normalized luck.
  18. You'll get no arguments from me. In 2014 while watching the Royals, I thought... "Damn, this feels a lot like watching the 2000s Twins. I miss that kind of baseball and I think it can succeed." Well, it succeeded. While I think a team can be built on power bats and strikeouts and succeed, give me a contact-happy team with moderate power and good defense any day of the week. It's just my opinion but I think that team is less prone to slumps like the one we're seeing now (where the Twins basically played their opponent straight-up four games in a row but lost every game because if you swing and miss a lot, chances are you'll have streaks where you swing and miss a lot while runners stand on base).
  19. This game has been brutal but it was the first brutal game of the season. This line sums up the Twins' season thus far: Twins, 7 hits, 0 runs Royals, 10 hits, 7 runs This team was bad tonight but damn, they cannot buy a break right now.
  20. While I agree RF defense matters and you'd embarrass yourself, you are not Miguel Sano. He's a big man but he's an athletic big man.* *this is not a defense of putting Sano in RF, I'm simply withholding outrage until he gets more experience** **the entire way this was handled was insane... If Sano was going to be an outfielder, it should have started in Fall League play*** ***no more points, just wanted to use three asterisks
  21. It's a... real... problem... that Perkins is sitting 91-92 today. It's his first appearance so I can't rail on him too hard but he can't close games at that velocity.
  22. Fien put a virtually unwinnable game out of reach. I consider this a best case scenario.
  23. HEY GUYS CASEY FIEN IS MY FAVORITE TWIN
  24. Twins Baseball: best experienced in your car, maybe in the garage, and probably while it's still running.
  25. It's not only about happy thoughts, it's more of a fine line than that. Just read my posts any time Casey Fien comes into a game. But I don't complain about *every* move and I don't rail on the front office in the middle of a game thread.
