  1. Stop moving the goalposts, Dave. I've barely talked about Murphy and just criticized the front office over him a few posts ago. And Hicks started only 41 games in the second half of last season, posting a .668 OPS in the process. Unless I'm seriously misreading B-Ref's site, that's nowhere near a 102 OPS+. Their league split OPS+ has him at 88 for the second half.
  2. And that might be worth noting if Hicks didn't have a long and storied history of being so passive that it becomes a detriment to his offense. Maybe Hicks breaks out this season. He certainly has the talent to do it but I'm going to need more than 31 PAs with ludicrous peripherals (30% swing rate, 37.5% HR/FB rate) before I become a believer of Aaron Hicks, offensive juggernaut.
  3. That wasn't my point. You're all up on Hicks based on a hot week and relatively down on Grossman, despite him being good for around 3/4 of a season. And if you don't think 31 PAs with a 30% swing rate is an issue, I'm not sure what to say.
  4. I'm not worried about Dozier at all. He's actually having a pretty good season. His walks are up, his strikeouts are way down, and the only discernible difference between this year and last is that his groundball rate is elevated a bit (not a lot but enough to note). He's just not hitting dingers... yet. If he keeps doing what he's doing, those will come in time. Brian's not a big guy. The home run thing could simply be a weather problem.
  5. The problem I have is that you're skipping a few steps, Mike. Yes, radio broadcasts are free but that doesn't mean MLB doesn't receive revenue from them. The end user isn't the one paying the bill, that's the only difference. Whereas there is no middle man to pay MLB for audio content in digital distribution.
  6. Rosario is suffering from bad luck. We should actually be encouraged by his start, even if the numbers look bad at first glance. HIs BB% is up 3.7% over last season. His K% is down 9.4%. His contact rate is up, his swings outside the zone are down, and he's basically doing everything he needs to do to improve over 2016. Why do his numbers look so bad? His line drive percentage fell off a cliff and he's hitting the ball on the ground too much. On top of that, he has a ridiculous .188 BABIP after posting numbers in the .330 range in 2015/2016. The process is right. Eddie is trying to adjust and the coaching staff needs to wait him out. The results will come in time if he continues to lay off bad pitches and make contact with pitches in the zone.
  7. I find Palka interesting - and I'd like to see him get a shot this season because I have little faith in either Vargas or Park - but he didn't light the world on fire last season in Rochester and we're barely getting going this season so may as well find out what you have in the guys in front of him before giving Daniel a shot.
  8. I don't see the need to start the clock on Palka quite yet (not out of fear of service time, just because there's no reason to do it). Vargas is also doing well in SSS and he's the next guy in line. Just call him up already.
  9. I didn't see the point in it from day one, so no.
  10. I agree but throwing the guy out there night after night isn't a good solution either. Giving him the occasional day off to take practice and clear his head is probably the right decision.
  11. Definitely. The Murphy situation makes the organization look bad in pretty much every way possible.
  12. Yeah, Murphy's complete and utter implosion is bizarre. Even if you think the trade was a bad idea, there was no reason to expect Murphy to devolve into a .300 OPS player after cruising through MiLB and MLB with decent numbers. When the trade happened, the real question to me was whether Murphy was a .650 or .700 OPS player, not whether he would spiral into posting ISO numbers lower than Byron Buxton's batting average.
  13. Especially when coupled with Hicks' history and his 30% swing rate.
  14. Dude. Just a few days ago, you were talking about Grossman's SSS and how his ISO would normalize. Except Grossman has been a good hitter for over 400 consecutive plate appearances.
  15. Right now, somewhere in the bowels of Target Field, Joe Mauer is studying film of Hicks' 2017 season, trying to figure out how to shave 8% off his swing rate.
  16. Also, Hicks (unsurprisingly) has hit all three of his home runs in Yankee Stadium.
  17. While their career trajectories could change from this point forward, the biggest difference I see between Hicks and Santana is that Santana was actually good at one point. Also lucky, but still good.
  18. Whether the trade was good or bad, Hicks has 31 PAs on the season and has swung at just 30% of the pitches thrown his way. I'll just go ahead and wait this one out before forming an opinion.
  19. If that was true, minor league scouts wouldn't have placed him as the overall #1 prospect for three years. There may be weaknesses and hitches in Buxton's swing but they're certainly not as glaring as you suggest.
  20. I actually think the television rights are fairly priced... if you remove blackout rules. Getting every baseball game in MLB - nearly 2500 games - for $130 is reasonable. But the blackout restrictions are terrible. Also, switch to T-Mobile. Their prices are cheaper, they're not a terrible company, and they've offered free MLB.tv for three seasons now.
  21. Ultimately, I think that's where we end up but I can see why MLB doesn't want to rip off that band-aid right now. I consider the issue of paying $130 and still not being able to watch a live game online within a region (without circumvention) a far more concerning and industry-damaging situation than radio. I'm willing to pay for things I enjoy, what I don't like is having to stick to a draconian and outdated system that forces me down a single, predetermined tunnel.
  22. They've played most of their games against the White Sox and Royals. I'm not sure that qualifies as "fair".
  23. Not only does that go entirely against everything we know about Falvey, that's just about the worst plan ever to get someone to change how they operate. Oh, wait. You said Reusse. Yeah, that makes sense.
  24. That undermines their regional broadcasters, though. For example, the Bemidji station that broadcasts Twins games would be deterred from renewing their broadcast rights because free streaming of the Minneapolis flagship station would be online for all to use.
