  1. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes to bench Kepler over Polanco against a lefty when both probably need the rest. Adrianza could have filled in for Jorge tonight.
  2. Stroman is on the mound for the Jays tonight so, naturally, the offense has been no-hit through four innings.
  3. Ah, good, okay. Makes sense to give him a rest tonight. It's just unfortunate that Buxton couldn't return to man center in his place.
  4. Wait. What happened to Kepler?
  5. 29 minutes until half of Minnesota starts drinking heavily.
  6. Odo is an adequate innings eater but throw those numbers out against the Yankees. That team will sit back and spit on borderline pitches all night long and when they do swing, balls tend to go a long way.
  7. It's better than Allen because at least with Allen, the upside there is interesting enough that you want to give him more time in the minors to see if he figures it out. Torres has no upside. When it's time to cut bait, there's not a second thought involved.
  8. Two takeaways: 1. No surprise whatsoever 2. His replacement is Torres, to which I say "What's even the point?" I get the front office is in a bit of a pickle here but good lord, it's of their own making. The moves they pulled in the past week should have started four weeks ago as they tried to wrangle some minor trades to backfill the bullpen and tested guys like Thorpe, Smeltzer, Stashak, et al in the stead of the dreaded M&M&M boys and Parker (and maybe even Harper, though he's interesting enough that I don't mind him sticking around as the last man standing at the back of a mediocre pen).
  9. The one upside here is that Odorizzi is a considerably better pitcher than Happ. We'll see if that matters one bit in just over two hours.
  10. I've been slightly against robo umps for a long time now but last night, more than anything I've felt since the Cuzzi postseason call, has infuriated me to the point where I believe baseball needs to make more changes to how they review and umpire games. We'll see if it wears off but I'm now neutral, if not slightly positive, on robo umps.
  11. Without looking, I want to say Saturday.
  12. There isn't much more to do. Rochester is pretty barren at this point.
  13. I saw the Yankees get the shaft on a few calls as well but the nature of Duffey's non-call was what made it so egregious: man (men?) on, two outs, 3-2 count, late in the game, one run game. If the pitcher makes what is essentially the perfect pitch in that situation - which is what Duffey did - he should get the call almost every time. The ball was in the zone and nigh unhittable. I think enough people around here should know me well enough that I try really hard not to crucify an ump, even if they make a bad call because those things tend to even out in time. But that call just about sent me through the roof last night.
  14. Sure, if you count Arraez as 1.25 of them. I kid, I kid. Or do I?
  15. Roster sizes move to 26 in the 2020 season. I'm a little disappointed someone with your username didn't know that change was coming.
  16. I don’t mind the idea of demoting Stashak for ten days but Stewart seems the more logical choice. Stashak is both better and a short outing pitcher in a game where the Twins need to hedge against needing a long outing pitcher.
  17. Agreed. Young teams with a lot of talent tend to explode to prominence quickly and the writing was on the wall; provided this team wasn’t injured or development didn’t stall *again*, be prepared for contention and a win total well above your neutral expectation (which was probably in the low- to mid-80s). It only takes a couple of young players stepping forward to turn an 85 win team into a 90 win team. Add a couple of other things going right and you're quickly looking at a 95 win team.
  18. Exactly. Looking at reliever numbers over short periods of time tells very little about their stuff. Parker’s stuff is unimpressive. Sure, he can get three outs from the Royals, as can almost every other pitcher in baseball. Getting three outs from postseason teams is a different story and being forced to put him into the eighth inning of a game like this looks bad. It looks really bad.
  19. Yeah, neither the age or cost is really signifiant when you get right down to it but losing Escobar hasn’t really hurt this team overall.
  20. It should also be noted that Adrianza has basically become a clone of Escobar, except cheaper and younger. I regretted losing Escobar in the moment but given how this season has played out, it's pretty hard to make a big deal of it at this point.
  21. Pick your most hated bullpen piece and demand their release. Honestly, out of 4-5 guys, I don’t care which arm you name, I’m okay with it. And that’s a *huge* problem, one that should have been more aggressively attacked at literally any time over the past *nine months*.
