  1. Hey, it’s 2019. This is basically a pitcher’s duel.
  2. So this is what a normal baseball game feels like. I’d forgotten what they were like.
  3. Hey, we should be happy that Hernandez didn’t eject Schoop for... something.
  4. I’ve never seen it called when the defender is so obviously trying to get out of the way and the runner moves 3-4 feet laterally, directly at the defender.
  5. That wasn’t on Schoop. The dude turned and ran right at him as he tried to get out of the way. A questionable call at best. As far as I know, the runner doesn’t get a ten foot path in which to run directly at defenders.
  6. I’m pouring a Mickey’s into the toilet in tribute of Cave.
  7. So Cruz is kinda-sorta dialed in, I guess.
  8. Another thing to think about is that if you backload a schedule with bad teams through August and September, those previously bad teams have likely sold their best pieces and have become terrible teams. Inversely, having to play good teams late usually means you end up playing better teams for the opposite reason. I'm not predicting anything but the Twins have a leg up on Cleveland in this regard and it shouldn't be controversial to point it out.
  9. I mentioned they struggled against good teams and immediately couched that by saying they were suffering through injuries during that period. Past performance does not guarantee future results and all that. And, yes, both teams have weak schedules because they're the only two good teams in a pretty bad division. But one of those teams (the Twins) has played quite a few games against good teams while the other (Cleveland) has played cupcakes for most of the season. Given that both teams are in the same division, that is going to equalize going forward and that's a good thing for the Twins. I don't really get why I'm seeing pushback on pointing out that Cleveland has played the fewest games against good teams in the entire league. That's just a fact.
  10. Ramos played seven games for Minnesota in May. He was traded at the end of July.
  11. I’ll be immensely disappointed if anyone is sent down. Most of the bullpen can go tomorrow and I want to see what Thorpe has in him. And eff off if you send down Smeltzer. At the VERY least, the guy deserves a week of MLB pay even if you don’t use him.
  12. Wilson Ramos is the obvious example, though it doesn’t invalidate the rest of your point, as that trade was idiotic at the time and only became more idiotic as time passed.
  13. The Twins have to pick up and play tomorrow in Chicago. You can't send Smeltzer out there for five innings if he's throwing 30 pitches an inning. It was a hard call but I can't blame Baldelli for leaning on Odorizzi in one game when pulling him could have led to disastrous results tomorrow and maybe the next day against a bad team. Again, blame the front office for putting Baldelli in the situation where he literally has one good reliever to get through a series facing possibly the best team in the American League.
  14. Sure, of course. But literally read through those teams. Do you think the Yankees, Angels, and Astros are going to lay down and die like the Orioles, Royals, Tigers, and Blue Jays? I don't know what to say if you believe it doesn't matter that a team that hasn't played well against good teams now has to face a string of good teams, a couple of those teams being demonstrably better than Cleveland.
  15. That's not true at all. Cleveland has to face the Astros, Yankees, Angels, Rangers, Twins, and Red Sox in the next three weeks after going on a tear against the Tigers, Royals, Orioles, Royals, Reds, Tigers, Twins, Royals, and Blue Jays for the past month and a half. A month and a half of play and they faced one good team: the Twins. They lost two of three. Do you seriously think that doesn't matter? Again, read through those teams I just listed in the second half of that sentence.
  16. I don't get how people continue to blame Baldelli for not having good options in his bulllpen and being forced to overuse his one good option and then falling back to bad options. He didn't build this bullpen. I'm almost certain he doesn't want this bullpen. I can't blame a manager for being reluctant to pull his starter because the only things behind him are recently called up rookies. What happens if Smeltzer goes 1.2 innings and gets killed after Baldelli pulls Odorizzi after 3.2 innings in a close game? What the hell does he do then? At least blame the right people for this cluster**** of a situation.
  17. To be fair, it was also really close to 4-5. Time to move on. The Twins get to beat up on crap teams for basically the rest of the season. It's time to pull it together, fix the bullpen, and take advantage of the rest of the year.
  18. It really throws me for a loop whenever you abbreviate Odorizzi as "JO" because that's what Berrios went by for years...
  19. It was more than that. Both Polanco and Kepler need a day off but Kepler can hit lefties, so can Adrianza, but Polanco really can't. Rest Kepler tomorrow.
  20. My statement in the first about going Kepler over Cave and Adrianza over Polanco feels a bit prophetic right now.
  21. They were probably good for the game up through the 50s. After that, they were mostly neutral until the 90s. Then money controlled the game (as it did before FA in the 70s), but the sport had grown to the point that kind of dominance has become a hindrance, not a positive. If that makes sense. I compare it to the Celtics and the NBA. They were good for the game when the game was small and they dominated. People LOVED watching that kind of talent coalesce and it made more people watch the sport. But that kind of dominance today is not good for the sport, especially if it comes because they can just spend more than everybody else.
