  1. Damn, that's a really interesting question. I believe they'd *have* to receive MLB pay because it's not as if you're going to give an eight year vet MiLB pay for a few days, nor is that player going to go without pay. The more I think about it, that player is still under control of the waiving team until he is taken by another team. I have to believe that he receives standard pay until something changes (ie. another team acquires him and demotes him).
  2. I TOLD YOU ALL THEY WOULDN'T WIN BY SEVEN RUNS
  3. I'm really disappointed that it appears the Twins will not beat the Sox by seven runs tonight. It's kind of a thing they do.
  4. I think Arraez is two things: 1. The proof is in the pudding applies to prospects far more than we want to admit. Going from a stat line, there was NO evidence Arraez is the player he is today. 2. The front office isn't getting enough credit for jumping Arraez up the line and promoting him ahead of other guys that easily could have filled in for a week (which was Arraez' initial callup expectation), yet they went with Luis. Given what we see now, it's likely they saw something there and kudos to them for that.
  5. That's interesting, though I'm unsure how it plays out in reality. The DFA bounce might help the player, but a strict DFA rule might help, say, half the players stick on an MLB roster and get them picked up by teams actually interested in their service ability at the MLB level instead of a "grab and stash" system. But if we're blowing things up, a DFA should either make a player a free agent or add one year to service time if you're conservative. That's the actual fair solution.
  6. Not really fun but an interesting stat, one that shows why the Twins have the record they do today (great offense, adequate but consistent starting pitching).
  7. I think Thorpe is likely, as he's a lefty. Stashak is a clear favorite over Smeltzer. I love Devin but he's a starter, if anything. He doesn't have long-look stuff to fool people over a postseason series, at least not yet.
  8. I saw it an hour ago but I'm the type of petty bastard that just wanted to sit back and see how long it'd take for someone to figure it out. I'm mildly disappointed, to be honest. I hoped it would go for at least the rest of the game.
  9. I don't think it needs to be a season but 30, 60, whatever days is more fair to both the original team and the player himself.
  10. Oh, hey, look at that. The Twins are *also* capable of beating up on Cape Cod league teams. That ability is not limited to Cleveland. Shocking.
  11. I think either the front office really dislikes Stroman or something was lost in the translation of that tweet (ie. the Jays are rightly hesitant, not the Twins).
  12. I accidentally stumbled into a Twins Facebook post full of people ripping LaTroy, who I think is rough around the edges but quite good at commentary. Yet another reminder that we are not the target demographic most of the time. I think we like LaTroy because he doesn't throw mindless platitudes and lazy takes around constantly, even if he's not the most polished broadcaster on the planet.
  13. I've been using Hulu this season and I'm happy enough with the service; it's fine from a technical standpoint but also includes Hulu programming so that's a pretty big bonus.
  14. Yeah... me too, and I wouldn't think too hard about it. The Twins must either really like Larnach or really dislike Stroman or both. Or maybe they feel like they'd be selling low on Graterol. That's possible, too.
  15. And, because it's the Mets, god only knows what that might be. It could be an unreasonable request, or it could be something Falvey can't say "yes" to quickly enough.
  16. It depends how the front office views Syndergaard. If they're confident they see something in him that will turn him into a consistently elite player, I don't know if the Twins *can* overpay for him. And if you see that kind of talent hidden behind a bad pitch selection, mechanical hitch, or whatever, you pay whatever it takes to get the guy. Period. It's not as if the Mets are the most advanced team out there. Look at who's interested in Syndergaard... Houston pops out as an obvious flag that there's even more performance hidden in that talent. Houston paid decently to acquire Verlander and Pressly, then turned around and made them absolutely dominant pitchers, far better than they already were (and both were already very good). Is the same possible with Syndergaard? Can the Twins unlock that extra performance? Dunno to both. Again, this is why I don't get attached to names on jerseys. I want the front office to target the player they can get the most improvement from, dollar for dollar (or prospect to prospect). I want performance, not a name.
  17. Thought you were going to go with "Parent" there for a moment.
  18. How is Lewis not living up to anything? He struggled early this year as he made mechanical adjustments but has an OPS well over .900 in July. Also, Lewis and Arraez have little overlap. Lewis is a SS that will fall back to CF if he can’t hack the position. Arraez is a second baseman who has acquitted himself well at third over the past month.
  19. This, and... 1. Giving Garver extra rest also allows the option of getting him 1-2 PH appearances late in a close game while not taxing him for a full game. 2. The Twins have a bunch of guys who can play first and hit. While we all want to see Garver in the lineup all the time, that's not really good for a catcher over 162 games. The dropoff seen by putting in Sano or even Gonzalez over Garver isn't crippling the offense.
  20. I saw that earlier and got a good laugh out it.
  21. I agree with the exception of Syndergaard. I think they're legitimately interested there, but that's far from a guarantee a deal gets done. I suspect they're in on Syndergaard with the idea they'll shift Perez to the pen and then pick up another relief arm. If Syndergaard isn't going to happen, then they ignore starters and move to pick up two relief arms instead.
  22. This. I used to think this was a thing until I started paying attention to it (not just the Twins, but what I saw across baseball). Starting pitching seems to be the only part of the equation that really benefits from clinching. The starters often throw short games in the last week or get shuffled around for how the manager wants the postseason alignment. Even the bullpen doesn't seem to get much of a break, as managers seem to fear "cold arm" heading into the postseason. The manager might give his best guys one extra appearance off but unless a guy is injured, "have a week of rest" isn't something teams do for their best relievers. As for the position players, each guy might get a day off but it's barely a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things. I can't recall seeing mass benchings from any team except for the last game of the year, to which I respond "big deal".
  23. Okay, finally looping back around on this. No answer from spycake so he's off the table. I don't find his non-response terribly out of character, to be honest. Which is fine, but we need to move on. I'd like a list of up to three people you'd like to see as moderators. After most of us contribute, we can narrow down the list. I haven't compiled my own list yet but will start putting one together as I think about it more.
