OK, I'm not going to blame this loss on umpiring, but Bell's strike zone has been maddeningly inconsistent tonight.

 

That called strike 3 on Span was a ball for Pavano a few times, including a key at-bat with Pena that started the 3-run rally.

No loss is easy to swallow, but we got beat fair and square tonight. Shields was awesome. The Hometowners need to take it in the jaw and make it personal tomorrow.

on the radio Provus mentioned that Swarzak should be available out of the pen if needed on Sunday to help out Liriano. Hope that's not necessary.

I agree. We got a solid start by Pavano. We need one of those rare Liriano starts tomorrow where he goes 7 innings of shutout pitching and 10 strikeouts.
