rico7961 Verified Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Awhile ago, there were a few writers suggesting the Twins move Jhoan Duran to the rotation, and trade for an established closer. With Milwaukee willing to trade Burnes. Maybe Devin Williams would be available for the right price. How about an offer an offer of David Festa or Marco Raya along with Gabriel Gonzalez the player we just received from the Mariners. I don't know if an offer like that would interest the Brewers, but acquiring Williams as a closer and moving Duran to the rotation might be worth the try. If Duran doesn't show well as a starter, you can always move him back to the pen. That would really solidify the bullpen if that happened. Speculation on a lot of things here. But, if you could acquire a pitcher like Williams for what the FO would consider "worth it". It might be worth trying. Williams has a 7M contract for this year and a 10.5M club option with a 250,000 buy out for 2025. So, he really wouldn't affect our budget, too much. And you have him for possibly 2 years. Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 My initial reaction is "No". On the other hand, our dearth of starting pitchers who look ready to step up from the minors to MLB are why I'm very much against moving Varland to the bullpen. Duran showed an effective couple of pitches other than his fastball last season. I don't believe it will happen, but you propose an interesting idea.
