Correa confirms Opt-out

The question is do you want to sign him as the cornerstone for a rebuild, which comes at the expense of not signing top flight starting pitchers or making big bullpen improvements. I’d love to see him return but players want a chance to get to the World Series. Correa correctly has concluded that won’t happen anytime soon with the Twins, given their lack of proven frontline starters. He is clearly a stud player who plays great defense and has a howitzer for an arm. He is fun to watch and his leadership appears to be off the charts. Though his offense early this season was mediocre he finished very strongly. Some team will give him a big contract, maybe not for ten years, but 5-7 years at $30+ and maybe a three year opt out provision. Seems like the Twins could match that but I think he is gone.

The conundrum is not that Correa won’t be a good player for years, it is that he wouldn’t be a good player for all the years of the contract. Linder, Semien and Berlinger all signed contracts through their age 37 season.  Just like the goods you buy at Dior, if used almost daily it is not going to last. Tulo was done by 32. Jeter, Larkin, Yount were done being elite at 34. I don’t think this FO wants to pay out for 3-4 years of less than elite play.  For Correa to come back on a 7 year deal, which would set up his family for generations even if they multiplied like rabbits, there would have to be fiscal prudence by the long spending teams.  That remains to be seen what they will do. It takes only one team

Just saw on MLBTR that the QO is $19.65M. Should the Twins tag Correa with the QO to at least try and recoup a draft choice? Or did the Astros attach the QO to him last year, I don't remember?

Never mind, I just did the research, and he had the QO attached last year.
