Josh Burris officially added to Kernels

Kernels have officially announced RHP Burris has been added to their roster. CR had an open roster spot and with Hurlbut moved to the bullpen, needed a new 6th starter for their 6-man rotation. I assume Burris got stretched out in EST with the intent of giving him an opportunity to start games this season.

I don't think I'd assume that he'll start. He's excited to be there and hopes to fit in and pitch well. He may be stretching out, but he also wasn't 100% He did pitch out of the bullpen last year though he also pitched 2-3 innings. It'll be interesting to get your thoughts on his curveball.

It will be interesting to see what they do. Could put Hurlbut back in the rotation, I guess. I wa told they still want to use a 6-man rotation going forward, though they had penciled Lee in to pitch again Tuesday (didn't have a long outing Thursday night).

Burris was rehabing his shoulder this ST. IIRC he did not toss from the mound at all during ST, that's why he stayed behind after the season started. I doubt that he will be starting or that he is stretched at this point.

 

That bullpen starts to look really good and I assume a couple guys will be moving up to Fort Myers in a couple months with Gruver first in the line...

Jeffrey Johnson, who writes for Source Media Group in Cedar Rapids, reported today that Burris officially joined the team and that Chris Mazza was sent back to EST.

 

Mazza started out the year as the Kernels closer. It turns out the 23.5-year-old can't get lefties out. I'm not sure what the plan is for Mazza, but interesting to say the least.

Matt Tomshaw is going back into the rotation. Burris will pitch out of the bullpen.
