A new era in baseball opens on November 6, 1976 when Twins reliever Bill (Soup) Campbell becomes the first MLB player to leave a team under the new free agent system and signs a huge contract. Check it out at www.twinstrivia.com .

Thanks for posting... Campbell threw 167.2 innings in 78 relief appearances. So, an AVERAGE appearance was to come in with two out in the seventh inning and finish the game (or maybe the sixth inning of a road loss).
