tvagle Verified Member Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Good time for 40 and 400 edit - with runners on tomorrow in the 1st inning
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 I get that it seems like Rocco gave up in bringing in Hildenberger, but I don’t think it was a horrible move given the overall context. By the time they brought him in, they were down two with a runner on base and only one out, so it’s not unlikely that even a solid outing by another reliever could give up a third run. Sure, they might get out of the inning only down two, and the offense can score runs pretty quickly, but they’d be going against a rested Kennedy, who is one of the few bright spots for the Royals. Add in that the bullpen is not particularly rested, and they already used The Doof and Romo, and I’m not sure you want to shoot more bullets tonight, particularly given that it’s likely that Cleveland is going to lose (which has since happened). Hildy hasn’t seen anything with any level of leverage to speak of, so it’s an opportunity to say, “Okay, let’s see if you’ve got anything.” He didn’t.

MNT1996 Verified Member Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Honestly just DFA Hildenberger now to open a spot up in the 40 man for any other AAA pitcher Get O'Rourke. Lefty specialist. Much more value.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Rocco has clearly thrown in the towel for this game. It'll be interesting to hear how he sugarcoats this dumpster fire in the post-game presser.Does it make sense to keep Rogers in for however many more pitches? Who do you propose should have come in down two in the ninth and a runner on second? Hildenberger has hardly pitched since he was recalled, he did finish well at Rochester, it was a chance to see if he had found something. The Twins need four more wins in seven games (assuming that Cleveland won't lose again) against two likely 100 loss teams. Every team has innings like this. It's never a great time for such an inning, but with a magic number of 4 with seven games to go, I think there should be no long-term damage.

It doesn't take a professional baseball analyst to look at Hildenberger's last appearances and realize that he is just not good.

AlwaysinModeration Verified Member Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Seven games left, need to go 4-3 versus KC and Detroit. Seems doable. 100 wins if they go 5-2. Also doable, just need to win each series.
insagt1 Verified Member Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 How often does a 'closer' come in in a non save situation, and not pitch well? A lot it seems. don't really know why Rogers started the 9th...seems like they just sort of 'wasted' him last night. I thought Duffey could have gone 2 innings and Romo could pitch the 9th. But I'm not the manager. We got our hats handed to us. Win Sunday and we get the series and reduce the magic number to 3 or 2. My concern and I'm sure everyone else's is can this team complete once post season starts? Sure would be depressing if we were to go 3 and out in the first round.
