Ouch, I do know there was talk of not bringing him back after GCL last year as he thought he was being cut.

Hayman is finding a lot more success in Elizabethton than he did in Cedar Rapids to start the year. He is hitting 244/273/415 in the rookie league with 4 doubles and a homer in 41 at bats. He has struck out 19 times which is in ABW range so that is a concern but it is also SSS so we will see if that is a long term issue. It is similar to his K rate at CR. In the GCL last year he struck out 1/3 of his at bats.

Defensively Hayman has thrown out 3 of 9 would be base stealers. In Cedar Rapids he threw out 6 of 16. He has 5 passed balls, 4 in Etown, and both of his errors has been in Elizabethton for a .980 FPCT.

After a hot start, Hayman is now hitting 204/222/290 in Elizabethton. He is only hitting 121 in his last 10 games/33 at bats which was his batting average was when he was demoted. As a 23 year old undrafted ball player in rookie leagues, this is not good for his career.

Defensively, Hayman is throwing out one third of those attempting to steal against him. He has 3 errors and 5 passed balls in 244 combined innings behind the dish.

2016 Wrap Up

Cedar Rapids: 33 At bats, 121/231/121 slash for a whopping 352 OPS

Elizabethton: 103 At bats, 194/211/272 slash for a 483 OPS

Combined he committed only 3 errors and allowed 6 passed balls in 271 innings as a catcher. He threw out 15 of 43 runners

2017 Outlook

At 24 years old and struggling in Rookie Ball, Hayman is probably concerned about being cut again. Hayman needs to show more with the bat if he gets a chance in Cedar Rapids again next year but there is a very good chance he is playing Indy ball next spring.
