DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I'm late to this party, but good lord, Santana is basically Molitors version of what Punto was to Gardy if not worse. How you PH Santana over Vargas is really really perplexing. I think Santana has a future in this league as a UTIL INF, but IMO Ryan needs to find a trade partner for Santana this offseason. Otherwise we could see way too many starts by Santana at SS next year over Escobar and far too many PH ops.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 ooof. I wouldn't let Santana carry Punto's sandals. Santana was the 2nd worst hitter in the majors this year and couldn't field anywhere near average.

But putting him as a starting 3B was a huge mistake. It's not an apples to apples comparison but I think the point remains, Gardy's opinions of Punto had him run him out there as a 3B wayyyy too much, and Molitor's opinion of Santana kept him as the SS way to long this year and has him relying on him way to much as a PH IMO. It's not a knock on Santana or really even Molitor to be honest, human emotion comes into any job and can effect decision making.

Molitor just has a blind spot for Danny Santana for some unknown reason. Not to say Santana won't rebound next year but this year he was a train wreck.
