jorgenswest Verified Member Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I need your help. I am wondering which players will become eligible for the rule 5 draft this year. I have these possibilities. Bard, LukeBaxendale, D.J.Chargois, J.T.Dean, PatGoodrum, NikoHaar, BryanHarrison, TravisHicks, DaltonJohnson, ColeJones, ZackJorge, FelixLee, BrettMelotakis, MasonMichael, LeviMuren, AlexanderPolanco, JoelRodriguez, DereckRogers, TaylorRosario, RandyShibuya, TimValera, RafaelVielma, EngelbWade, LoganWalker, AdamWilliams, CoreyWimmers, Alex I also wonder which minor players can become minor league free agents if not added to the 40.I am sure there are several more but I don't know if I missed anyone of significance or if someone above belongs in this list. Beresford, JamesBernier, DougBowden, MichaelHamburger, MarkOliveros, LesterOrtiz, DanielPrior, StephenRodriguez, Reynaldo Any help is appreciated. I did not intend this thread to be a place to comment on the worthiness of a player being added to the 40. That could go on for pages. I am hoping to have a place to get help with who is eligible for rule 5 or minor league free agency.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Can the Twins get exemptions for pitchers like Bard and Chargois, who spent extended time on the DL?No, I don't think so. I think you can get an extra option year on a player who was injured or in short-season ball for awhile, but I've never seen that applied to Rule 5 protection. In fact, it seems players missing major time to injury are popular Rule 5 picks.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Valera, Rafael - NoVielma, Engelb - No Seth, it has been reported recently that Vielma would be eligible for Rule 5. Both he and Valera signed in September 2011, so although they didn't debut until 2012, I think this would be their 5th Rule 5 draft upcoming.
