It was called, but lacking for the execution.

It looked to me like Schafer might have been trying to bunt for a hit, with the added benefit of moving up the runner if he was unsuccessful.  I don't have a big problem with that...although Schafer has never struck me as someone skilled at any type of bunting.

I DO have a problem with sac bunting in the 3rd inning, however.

Well, if you have 2 TVs, there is this new fangled thing called a VCR. You can record on one TV, even with it off while watching the game on the other TV.

TWO TVs??!?

Bert should know baseball better than getting all excited about advancing a runner with an out.  In today's game, with all the strikeouts moving a runner to third with one out just isn't that impactful.  Late in the game, sure it makes sense to play for one run.  In the fourth or fifth, it is better to advance the guy than not but the out is more important.

I dislike the two 'fer approach, maybe get a hit, but get a sacrifice if I'm out.  However, when trying to bunt for a hit, the chances of actually getting the ball down in the field of play are way lower than squaring to bunt and "giving oneself up".

Yep. They'll need it if they ever broadcast a second channel.

Oh, on the hypothesis that someone is asynchronously appreciating Minnesota sports, are we discouraged from updating on events in the other game?

Have I mentioned recently how much I dislike Nunez?

Have I mentioned recently how much I dislike how his helmet flies off at literally every motion he makes on the basepaths? It's irritating to me for some reason.

I find it to be the one non-irritating thing about him. The helmet thing just makes me laugh.

Wild down by 1, but playing well.

danny santana: slumping or flash in the pan?

HIS BABIP from last year wasn't going to happen again, but it will be awhile before we know whether he is bad, or somewhere between bad and last year.

1st XBH, opposite field.  Not shocking. This need to pull a ball has gotten out of hand.

I could not disagree more.

IMO, the inability to pull the ball last year got out of hand.

He and Brunansky seem to agree with me, BTW...it's been mentioned on several telecasts now that they worked hard to restore RF to the realm of possible for Mauer.

i'm out of the tv zone and the only game i've seen was opening day when he nailed two balls that were caught. i guess that's babip rearing its ugly head ...

Mauer batted .486/.481/.714 last year opposite field.

Nothing wrong with being able to pull the ball but if all he does is go up there and try and pull the ball XBH is very likely to be very low because he's just trying to make sure he's getting a hit he's not driving the ball.

So Torii Hunter is just winging the ball just anywhere in the infield now?

he's a soon to be 40 year old bad defender.  that's who we have.
