ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Also, my first game was probably 1967. Just as we walked from the concourse (?) up to where the field was in view, Cesar Tovar ripped a single between short and third. Very memorable.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 And now the Met's home plate is nestled in the bowels of the Mall of America. That's not right.I don't know...standing there was easily the highlight of my trip to MOA. One more thing I remember about the old Met was the parking lot, and for some reason the colored signs that were supposed to help you find your car faster after the game, so you could spend more time sitting in a long line waiting to get out.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Woohoo! Get your rally cakes ready!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Somewhere I got a picture of me and my kids with our arms up, screaming as we came down the log ride. That was pretty cool too.I think that would make a fun ModCon activity <g>
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Atchison looks older than me. And that's not something I say about many people.

John Kelsey Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 "Morales is going for two, oh my goodness" Dick could not have said it better.
kydoty Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Morales needs a smaller target to be tagged.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I think a problem Morales has it that he might eat too much rally cake. He is not exactly streamlined for speed. I am kind of glad I am listening to this on the radio and did not have to see that.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 My first game was the 3rd home game in 61. All I remember is Jim Lemon looked really big. Had been to the Met the year before for a Millers game, Yaz was the big star for the Millers turned out to be a fair player.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Morales' incursion into 2nd base looked like a man trying to rescue a free goldfish from a subway track. Mind the gap, Kendry.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 What's the record for men left on base? Baseball, or military? Uhh, fine, it's a baseball site and a good question. Just say'in.
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 How do you suppose Terry Francona feels about trotting out a relief pitcher that's older than he is"
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Atchison looks older than me. And that's not something I say about many people. If you squint Atchison looks like a very slightly more athletic Richard Nixon.
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Not sure the number, sure it's held by a Twins team. 1334 runners in 1941 by the St Louis Browns according to baseball almanachttp://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/left_on_base_records.shtml
LaBombo Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Good call pointing that out. Actual outcome aside, AARP ninjas are descending on the scene, having stretched first and obsessively consulted their GPS's for the takedown....
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 My first MLB game was the Pirates at the Giants in 1966. I remember almost nothing of it, except that it was overly hot and I was overly bored. My brother and I tried sharing reminiscences of it a few years ago, and he had all sorts of specific details and all I could remember was needing more than just the one watery lemonade.
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Twins' baserunning is such a puzzle. Nunez made it into third, but was it a good idea stretching a double into a triple with two outs and you're down by 2?
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Not bad, Nunez. Now how do we get him in from third, with two outs? Oh, my first big league game was in the kingdome, and i was young enough to wonder why people kept running to first base, then heading back to the dugout. That's about the extent o' my memory... And i would credit the raspberries for last night's rally more than the cake. Anyone want a rally raspberry?
