I guess it is more pleasant to have your cynicism proven wrong than to have your optimism shattered.  I admit when I watch him against MLB pitching, he seems to be guessing on a lot of pitches, and missing badly. Contrast that with Sano, who came up and immediately seemed to have a perfect sense of the strike zone and ability to recognize pitches. All of that being said, I don't think we realize how rare it is for someone like Sano to come up and do that right away. It is by far the exception, not the rule. Most really good hitters, especially when they are 21, take at least a year or two or longer to really blossom at the major league level.

I guess this would seem much more like a forum post than a blog. If you're going to claim something as drastic as this, backing it up with some sort of factual basis would be in your best interest...

Well just look at this 46 MLB games last year and his spring numbers!!

Well, if Buxton had exactly two more hits than he does at the moment, he'd be hitting over .300 this spring (he's currently 8 for 33).

Those darn small sample sizes!

I'm not going to draw conclusions for a few more years, but his inability to hit the breaking ball stuff is concerning.

I think it depends on what your expectations are. Mike Trout? Not gonna happen.

But it sounds like you don't think he will stick in the big leagues. I think he is really close with the bat, given his speed and defense to stick.

Even a .250 hitter with 2 wins a year on defense and 40 Sb is a good player. I think Buxton exceeds that offensive output by a long shot though.

Tom Kelly always said it took 1,500 at bats to know what you have in a player. I'm pretty OK waiting at least another 600-800, maybe even another 1,400 at bats to see what he can be. I'm sure the Twins pitching staff will be happy to have him in centerfield for that time.
