Houston May Want to Trade For Correa - Should We Do It?

Twins Video

There are reports out today that Houston is looking at trading for Correa with Paredes likely out for an extended period and perhaps for the season. Who knows if this is true, but what would/could we get for Correa? Should we do a deal?

I would consider doing this IF we can get a solid prospect in return, something like a top 15-25 in the Houston system. According to MLB.com, that would mean a 40 FV guy like Jose Fluery, Caden Powell, or James Hicks. Probably a good future reliever or average plus regular type if things work out. Would you do it? Would you if you "knew" that the money would be repositioned this off season for one or two solid players?

I'd want a better return, and I'd push to even pay a LITTLE more down to get Walker Janek. Another catching addition would help our organization.

I would rather get almost nothing in return than pay for him to play against us. That being said, its business and talent costs money…..

If they have an opportunity to move Correa they should take it.  Put Lee at SS and move on.  Having two brittle players like Buxton and Correa as the core of the team is never going to work.  Buxton has been better this year, but that's an exception.  They're not getting any younger and Correa's production is already declining.

The primary reason to trade Correa is financial flexibility for the future.  In his current iteration, neither his offense (especially) nor his defense are really on the mark.  At the salary that he is making, he has no surplus value at all.  The prospect(s) that we get back are just to save face and say it wasn’t only a salary dump move, so I’m not sure it matters much.

I believe this was started by a Reddit user and Nightengale ran with it. No way Houston takes Correa back unless the Twins eat a bunch of dollars.

Correa is at his low point, That's exactly when you shouldn't trade him. But leave it to Falvey to trade him. I wouldn't trust Falvey to switch my old underwear for new ones.

With Correa it is all about the money. I know many don’t want to hear it, but his $35-$40M/yr contract will be an issue going forward. Unless there are huge breakouts by young vets (Larnach, Walner, Lewis, Lee) or unexpected accelerations of rookies (Rodriguez, Keaschel, Jenkins, Culpepper) the Twins will not be serious contenders in ‘26, or maybe even ‘27. Look to this next wave 2 to 3 years out. Lock up the starting pitching, develop a back end of the bullpen, and see what develops with the upcoming position players.
Forget about the return on a Correa trade. Get a couple of low level lottery tickets, eat a bit of his salary, and look to the future.
