I finally gave up on finding my 2009 pictures of Busch Stadium and finished the NL Central write up. I've made my peace with not finishing the 30 active stadiums this year, so writing about visiting baseball is still the best option until I can go see it again. And without further whining, here's the next division... National League Central Chicago Cubs Wrigley Field What if I told you if you would watch a club volleyball tournament with friends in the Dells for two days you’d get
I found myself thinking through recent Twins history today and considered how much volatility there has been in terms of consistency. The Twins have been mostly bad, but when good, the performances have came and went rather quickly. 2020 truly looks like an open window, but it is Brian Dozier that I latched onto as the pinnacle of the roller coaster. After debuting in 2012 as a shortstop, Dozier quickly flamed out at the position after just 84 games there in his opening salvo. He would relocat
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION The Twins (13-6) are riding high on a 6 game winning streak as we head into a home series with Detroit (4-14). There is a good chance this streak will continue, and is asking for a third straight sweep too much? Did I just jinx us? Let's find out. I'm 3 games behind so I'm going to forgo my usual inning by inning highlight recap and just give a more general synopsis to catch me up to the correct day! Game 20, 4-17-20 Odorizzi (3-0) has been a stud this season a
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION The Twins have an off day on 4-16-20. I will give a half month update below with plenty of links. AL CENTRAL STANDINGS Cleveland 17-3 Minnesota 13-6 Kansas City 9-9 Chicago 7-11 Detroit 4-14 The Twins are 11-2 on the road. If we didn't go 2-4 in our first two home series we'd be right up there as the best team in the league thus far with Cleveland. Cleveland is starting out amazingly. They went 10-0 before the Twins gave them their first loss and have
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 18 4-14-20 Sorry I got a little behind here. Life with a three year old and 6 month old with a continuous ear infection sometimes takes priority. Anyways the Twins are coming off a great blow out win in Toronto. Let's see what happens in game 2 and 3 of the series. Can they head into their off-day with a nice road trip? Jhoulys Chacin (0-0) vs Chase Anderson (1-2) Game highlights below. Top of the 1st - with one out Arraez got to second after Cavan Biggio
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 17, 4-13-20 After the Twins swept the White Sox it was time to move on to Toronto. Toronto is off to a cold start (7-9) last in the AL East. This is doable for the Twins to get another sweep on the road. Game 1 matches up Homer Bailey (0-2) vs Trent Thornton (0-1). Game highlights below. The first two innings were a pitchers duel 12 up, 12 down between the two teams. Bottom of the 3rd - Travis Shaw was safe on an error by Polanco. The Twins started the sea
Prior to the 2020 season the Minnesota Twins needed to shore up their starting rotation. Rather than giving Jake Odorizzi a multi-year contract they handed him a qualifying offer. Agreeing to the $17.8MM deal may have left something on the table, but new developments mean Odorizzi could be in an interesting spot. We have no idea what baseball is going to look like this year, or whether it will look like anything at all. Make no mistake, Major League Baseball will get creative to capture some o
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 15, 4-11-20 (I missed posting yesterday, so two short posts today.). Twins coming off a win vs Chicago wants to expand on that. Odorizzi (2-0) vs. Gio Gonzalez (1-0). Both game highlights below. The Twins started out hot. Buxton hit a single to start out the game. Kepler doubled scoring Buxton from 1st. Sano singled, scoring Kepler. Cruz doubled, but Sano only could make it to third where he got stranded. Twins leading 2-0. In the bottom of the 4th, Luis

TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 14, 4-10-20 The Twins are back on the road after a much needed day off. Two rough home series losses to tough teams in Oakland and Cleveland was not what the Twins were expecting in their first home stand. But now they are up against an easier White Sox team even if they were only a half a game behind the Twins (6-6). Jose Berrios (2-1) is up against Giolito (2-1). Two aces, let's see if this ends up being a pitching duel or if one of these studs had a dud.
This is an excerpt from a story which originates at Zone Coverage, please click here to read in full. Minnesota Twins players Mitch Garver and Josh Donaldson addressed local media on a conference call Thursday afternoon, and it covered a wide range of subjects -- many of which would come as no surprise to curious fans. What are they specifically doing to maintain as much of their Grapefruit League progress as possible? What are they doing to pass the days when they aren't working out? Where
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 13, 4-8-20 Cleveland tied up the series yesterday at 1 a piece and the Twins really want the win today. With Chacin recovering from an injury Randy Dobnak gets the start today and he has a tough one going up against 2-0 Justin, I mean Shane Bieber. Game highlights below. Top of the 1st - Dobnak started with 2 straight outs before Lindor hit a single. With a hot Santana at the plate, the Indians thought if Lindor got to 2nd base there would be a good shot t
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 12, 4-7-20 After giving Cleveland their first loss of the season, game 2 of the series is an important one for the Twins to keep their positive momentum going. Kenta Maeda coming off an unbelievable start is going up against Mike Clevinger which is a tougher matchup for the Twins then Clase in the first game. Can the Twins get 2 in a row? Game highlights below. Bottom of the 2nd - Nelson Cruz has been struggling this season. He is one of the only Twins
Baseball records used to have so much more meaning for me, but now I realize the external and societal influences and they have taken on less meaning. 60 and 61 were magical - 70 and 73 on steroids - blah. 714 and 755 HR totals were meaningful, but they were steroided too and then along came the juiced ball and 300 + team HRs means less too. Doubles, triples, stolen bases are all dynamic and I love them, but ball park configurations, saber rattlers, and new strategies have removed a lot of the
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION Game 11, 4-6-20 This is a huge series early in the season as the undefeated Cleveland Indians are traveling to Minneapolis to face the 2nd place Twins who are 4 games back. This is the Twins chance to make back some games. Hopefully Cleveland's 10-0 start is due to an easy schedule. The match pits Odorizzi up against Emmanuel Clase. Below we will highlight the scoring innings. Bottom of the 2nd - Sano walked, Buxton launched one to left center scoring the "speed
I’m not exactly sure why I didn’t put something like this together in the past, but there’s definitely more time on all our hands as the world responds to a global pandemic. Baseball allows us to consume the sport in so many different avenues, and while I appreciate your readership both here and on Twitter @tlschwerz, there’s been more than a few great books on the game that have come out in recent years. With the analytical age being almost entirely focused on the consumption of information,
TWINS 2020 SEASON SIMULATION I'm simulating the 2020 season on the online board game Dynasty League Baseball. Each day I will try to give an update so you can follow along with this imaginary season. I'm a bit behind so I will list the first 10 games of the Twins season here. I will also try to add highlights going on in the league each week along with mid and end of month standings and league leaders. I will also place a link for each game in case you want to check the box score and/or the
This is an excerpt from a post originating at Zone Coverage. Please click here to read it in full. A couple of offseasons ago, we ran a series similar to what we’re doing here, entitled “Minnesota Twins 40-Man Report Cards.” The only key difference to be aware of is since it’s happening now instead of during the offseason, we’re going to make it forward-looking — that is, with the current roster as constructed, looking back on their 2019 season. Previous editions: Homer Bailey Jose Berrios
Once upon a time I had the first copy of SI with Eddie Mathews on the cover - my third favorite player after Aaron and Spahn, but my mother did what hundreds of mothers did - cleaned house and threw it away. But for decades SI was the go to source like TD is today. Going through my old collection of magazine covers I was struck with the fun stories and insights that these covers give. I have posted this series of covers because it captures our 1987 World Series victory and Toronto which featur
MLB and the MLBPA agreed yesterday to accommodations for a shortened 2020 major league schedule. Many things are to be determined, especially since there is no firm date for the season to begin. I choose to be optimistic that there will be baseball this summer, perhaps without crowds in the stands. One thing agreed to unofficially was an expanded roster. The number that has been published is 29. I am going with that information and will now name the 29 players I expect will be on the roster for
Rich Hill Elbow Surgery Discussion Heezy 1323 Happy Supposed-To-Be Opening Day everyone. Since the baseball season is (unfortunately) on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, about the only recent baseball-related news to report has been that both Chris Sale and Noah Syndergaard (in addition to Luis Severino earlier this spring) are in need of Tommy John surgery. I covered some information about Sale’s injury and some discussion regarding techniques used in UCL reconstruction in previous blog
I just went through the roster of everyone who ever played for the Senators/Twins franchise. Only with Coronavirus would I do that. Well it was kind of fun and I put together a 26 man roster of the best names - from my perspective. These were last names only and it was hard to ignore the nicknames. Vic Power led off at first for the Twins since Power is our calling card and Early Wynn (perfect names) is our starting pitcher. Some are a little more obscure - actually I never heard of many of them
Tomorrow was scheduled to be Major League Baseball's Opening Day for the 2020 season. Jose Berrios was to toe the rubber against the Oakland Athletics in California. Thanks to COVID-19 none of that will happen, but I'm determined to live out the season we were promised. Eventually, things will return to normal. As with any bit of adversity, finding a way to rise above and conquer will present the ultimate prize. Until we reach a period in which baseball returns to the real-life diamond, it's M
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
